Overview
Spend the day exploring the tiny Irish village of Cong, best known as the filming location of John Wayne’s The Quiet Man, on a full-day guided tour from Galway. On this tour, you’ll visit the Ashford Castle, the Royal Abbey of Cong, the Pigeon Hole Cave, and enjoy a history cruise on Lough Corrib. This fully guided coach tour packs in more sights than you could see in a day exploring on your own and includes all admission tickets and guide fees so you don’t have to worry about a thing.
What to Expect
Meet your guide at the Galway Coach Station at 8:45am and climb abroad a luxury bus limited to 15 passengers to ensure a personal, comfortable experience throughout the day. You will travel north along the east shores of Lough Corrib where your guide will share stories and the history of the places you pass through on your way to Cong.

The first stop of the day is at the magnificent Ashford Castle (admission price included). Here you and your guide will jump back through 800 years of history that is contained within the walls of this impressive Castle. After exploring the grounds and gardens of Ashford Castle you will make your way down to the Ashford Castle pier and hop on Corrib Cruises (ticket price included) and enjoy a 1 hour History Cruise on Lough Corrib. Sit back and absorb the stunning scenery of Lough Corrib and Connemara. During the months of June to September you will board Corrib Cruises at Lisloughrey Pier after lunch and embark on a 2-hour cruise of Lough Corrib which includes a stop at the lake's biggest island Inchagoill where the boat’s Captain will take you on a tour of the island where you will see 5th and 12th century churches and learn of the incredible history associated with the island.

Relax and enjoy one of Cong’s many award-winning pubs, restaurants and cafes, where you can eat, drink and have the ‘’Craic’’ with locals as you break for lunch.

Walk in the footsteps of Ireland’s Last High King Rory O’Connor in the beautiful ancient ruins of the 12th century Royal Abbey of Cong. Travel back in time with your local guide to the everyday life of a monk and marvel in the incredible Gothic and Romanesque architecture and stone work of the abbey ruins. Casually stroll with our local guide through the village and take in the peaceful tranquility of Cong as you and your guide delve into the amazing history associated with this little corner of Ireland. To finish the day you will take a short trip out of the village over the borders of Connemara to the Pigeon Hole Cave. Here you will witness for yourself what makes Cong and the surrounding areas so geographically unique to the rest of Ireland. and dive into mythical Ireland as your local guide tells the romantic story of the ''The Fairy Trout''.

Sit back, relax and enjoy the memories you made in Cong as you make your way back to Galway and say farewell to your guide at the Galway Coach Station.

I would say any day is great. We went on a typical windy/rainy day and we still had loads of fun. Sturdy umbrellas were provided, and Doron is a fantastic guide!
