About
This tour will chart the revolutionary period of 1913-1923, a decade of division, war and rhetoric that created the independent Irish state and partitioned the island of Ireland. On this tour you will visit sites of revolutionary importance including: the GPO, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin Castle, the Four courts, the Abbey Theatre, the National History Museum and Kilmainham Gaol Museum. We will trace how a group of plucky rebels changed the course of Irish history in April 1916. A failed rebellion and a noble sacrifice would radicalise the Irish population. In 1919 a guerrilla war would erupt ending in an imperfect Anglo-Irish treaty. It was hardly a peace treaty, however, as Ireland descended into Civil War in 1922. The issue that caused it, the border. A border that remains an issue of contention to this very day.

Very educational if you want to understand Irish independence
Nov. 2019
Mick was knowledgeable, energetic, and had a sense of humor. Appropriate for teenagers and up. Left with a much, much better sense of the Irish struggle for independence and the historical sequence of events. NOTE: this tour is also as alternative way to get tickets to Kilmainham Gaol (the Dublin prison where republican fighters were executed and a lot of history took place) which is one of the most popular attractions in Dublin and can often be sold out.

Extraordinary!!

This tour exceeded any expectations we had. Our tour guide Erin was a master at getting us engaged and to as many key places in Dublin that connected to the Easter Rising of 1916. She built the context and helped us understand what led up to the actual rising. As we walked the streets of Dublin, she shared important facts and locations - too many to mention. It was just Erin and the two of us so you can imagine the chance we had to interact and have our questions answered. The tour took us to the GPO, the site of key planning and implementation of the uprising. It included the cost of the tickets to enter and allowed us to spend as much time as we needed to see the wonderfully informative exhibition. We then hopped a taxi (included) and were brought to the GAOL. The entrance was again included and the guided tour and tour guide inside (Dave) was high quality.

Just another shout out to Erin. She is a student of history at the University getting an advanced degree. She is a superb teacher and lovely young woman. She represents this tour group well!!

A Terrible Beauty is a Must
May 2019 • Couples
As a student of Irish History, I could not resist this tour - the title caught my attention as it referenced Yeats poetry. My wife and I signed up for the tour and were not disappointed. Our guide, Mick, met us at the hotel and, in spite of vicious headwind, we began our journey back in history. Mick was a wealth of information as he traced the beginning of the Easter Sunday uprising and brought the Irish Patriots to life highlighted with a stop at James Connolly's statue and then on to the GPO where much of the fighting and damage occurred. We joined a tour guide with the GPO here who outlined the events that occurred here and the results. Then off to Kilmainen Jail, a highpoint of the trip. It was fascinating, frightening, and illuminating. We saw the cells where the leaders were held prior to their execution, the chapel where Grace and James Plunkett were married and then the stone yard with crosses where the executions occurred.
The tour was worth the money but we have one suggestion. Have Mick give the tour of the GPO rather than the resident tour guide; this would allow more time to view all the posters and costumes. But - this tour is a must for anyone interested in Irish history.
Thanks, Mick!
