- werebimbo0 contributionsFriendly hosting, amazing flavours and generous samples. What's not to love?Excellent tasting session with the lovely Monica! We had a blast at the Chocolatarium and it was honestly much better than expected. I've been to chocolate factories in Switzerland but this was a more intimate and fun experience and the measures and samples were generous. Leave extra time at the end as we didn't get rushed out of the tasting area, so I found myself wishing we could linger longer but unfortunately we had a theatre booking so had to leave all the lovely chocolate behindWritten 10 February 2025
- LProud10 contributions8th birthday partyHeld my twins sons' 8th birthday party here with 16 of their friends. Was brilliantly run and engaging for them all, with lots of learning, tastings and their own creations to take home and eat. Highly recommended and exceeded expectations. I need to go back and browse on the shop as lots of delicious items to buy.Written 26 January 2025
- 776marjoried0 contributionsYummy and fascinating chocolate experienceGreat experience. Very enjoyable. My three kids (age 6, 8 and 10) loved it. The hot chocolate was divine. Making the bars was so fun. Our tour guide Lucinda was brilliant.Written 30 October 2024
- EileenB8410 contributionsDisappointedWe went hoping to purchase special chocolate made on the premises and found only commercial chocolates - a wide and interesting variety but a disappointment. No homemade truffles or similar confections. Primarily (though not exclusively) bars of imported chocolates. We were unable to book a tour due to our schedule - a tour may be worthwhile but otherwise not recommended.Written 18 October 2024
- 263mieh0 contributionsA wonderful choice for a solo- or group trip!I went to the Chocolatarium on a solo trip to Edinburgh, and I highly recommend it! The staff were so friendly and kind, the instructions and guidance was gentle, and the chocolate (what I made and tasted) was delicious!Written 14 October 2024
- Graeme W0 contributionsGood fun and chocolate to take away. Yum !We were given 2 tickets for the truffle making experience as a Christmas gift. The heart of our 2 hour experience was an opportunity to make chocolate treats to take away. The staff were friendly and we both had a great time with tasty treats to take away and share with our gift-givers. I’d recommend for adults and teenage/older children. Young kids probably wouldn’t be able to really get the best experienceWritten 13 October 2024
- diannelA8314KN0 contributionsLaugh, learn, and make your own chocolate! What a fun experience! Learning, laughter, and chocolate! Edouard was knowledgeable and funny. Our guide Raffy was excellent. She explained the whole chocolate making process clearly and with great enthusiasm.
Making our own chocolate was a lot of fun and there was a vast array of toppings for us to sample before selecting our decorations.
Onto the tasting tables where we were taught how to properly taste the samples in front of us.
The tasting walls which we moved onto are filled with a whole lot of wonderful types and flavours to try.
I thought that the tour was great value for money, very entertaining and I’d highly recommend it to anyone of any age as long as you are under 6.

We were gifted the tour experience from a relative as a Christmas present, and wow! They absolutely knocked it out of the park with this!
My wife and daughter and I enjoyed the three stage tour, which involved learning and tasting chocolate in many different form, from all over the world. The main part of the tour was our opportunity to make our own chocolate truffles, which was so much fun, and also very tasty.
It is not difficult to understand why this tour sells out so quickly, but if you can, make sure you add it to your trip's itinerary.
Thank you so much to Lotta and Sandy for their knowledge and patience, and for allowing us to enjoy such a wonderful experience.

My boyfriend booked this tour, and we were greeted by the kind and energetic hostess who let us put our stuff in lockers before we took a seat in the room where she welcomed us to the tour. She let us taste some chocolate milk and other chocolates while explaining some information about fair trade, how chocolate is made and even had a real cacao bean for us, which we could touch, smell and look at while passing it on to the other guests. After her explanation, we went into the factory room, where she explained about certain machinery, let us taste actual roasted cacao beans, and told us about the process of making (our own) chocolate. We could pick either dark or milk and decorate it with whatever toppings we liked. After that, we went back into the room we came from to listen to some more informative words, before moving to the tasting room. In the tasting room we tasted the difference between chocolates and their origin regions, among with an ancient brewing and some tea. After that we could pick a few from the 70 different kinds of chocolates to taste and discuss it with the group. In the end we received our cooled chocolate bars and that was the tour.
The hostess was very friendly and energetic, and the tour itself was very informative, fun, and a good experience

Had the best time here! Our tour lady was really engaging and friendly, and we ate so much good chocolate. This was such good value for money and the lady who ran our session definitely takes a lot of the credit for this. My partner had paid for this and when she told me afterwards how much it cost I was shocked at how good value it was.

We fancied something a little bit different to the usual ghost and whisky tours and this was perfect. It was fun, informative and well....tasty. And it took over 1.5 hours which flew by but in terms of value for money you got a lot for the price. Well worth a trip in

An educational tour with lots of testing experiences!
Mackenzie was very knowledgeable and super funny - literally better than a comedy show I went to the night before . Suitable for kids and adults !
Really recommend if you're a chocolate fan - lasted a good couple of hours and didn't feel rushed at all .

What a fun activity. Micheal was our guide and he took us through the history of chocolate, it’s origins with such finesse and wit. There were some younger teens in the group and he was able to involve everyone with his history and jokes.
Making our own chocolates was a treat - we all had multiple molds to choose from and treats to add to our bars.
The tasting room was unique. The trying of 100% chocolate to 30% was interesting. But being able to try samples of dozens of dark/milk/white chocolates gave me a chance to try flavor combinations I wouldn’t normally try.
I’d recommend this tour to anyone who likes their chocolates

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour at The Chocolatarium and found it a great value for the money compared to other tours in Edinburgh. Our guide, Boogie, was very enthusiastic, extremely knowledgeable, and was able to answer all of the questions thrown at her. Making your own chocolate at the end was fun, and surprisingly enough, actually tasted really good! I would definitely recommend this tour for families, especially if you like chocolate, because you'll get a lot of it!

I did the tour yesterday with my 3 daughters and 11 year old grandaughter to celebrate her 11th birthday. We had a fantastic time. The tour was very informative, we made our own chocolate bar and sampled a variety of chocolate. Mackenzie our tour guide was brilliant and we really enjoyed his sense of humour. The shop is well stocked with all kinds of chocolate bars and novelty gifts - all reasonable priced. The Chocolatarium is a short walk from Waverley stat and I thoroughly recommend a visit.

We arrived 10 minutes early to be greeted with a bark that we were too early. As other guests arrived they too were informed they were too early while the people who arrived a minute or so after were told they were late. As we waited people asked questions but the guide said she would answer questions when the tour officially started. It was all rather amusing.
The tour itself was okay - some background to how chocolate starts out as cacao etc.
Then in the kitchen we were given prepared chocolate liquid and got into a mould before decorating.
The session finished with tasting of different chocolates.
The experience was fine but underwhelming.

We are in a family of a child of 9 and 5. Can the child of 5 be accommodated to the museum together with the family?

The tour has a section where the history of chocolate is discussed I'm not sure an under 5 would understand or enjoy it. The practical part is on work benches high up again they would not get alot from the experience I'm not sure it would be worth the money.
