    Itinerary

    Day 1: Edinburgh - Inverness

Stop At: Culross Palace, West Green, Culross KY12 8JH Scotland
You leave Edinburgh and begin following the trail of the best-known film locations featured in the Outlander TV Series.

Heading north, your first stop is the charming village of Culross. In Outlander Culross posed as the fictional village of Cranesmuir and the home of Geillis Duncan and her ill-fated husband, Arthur. Exploring the town’s cobbled streets is like taking a step back in time. Look carefully and you may even find Claire’s herb garden behind the impressive, historic Culross Palace.
    Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Falkland Palace & Garden, 11 miles north of Kirkcaldy, Falkland KY15 7BY Scotland
We continue to the small town of Falkland to relive the first scenes of the show, where Falkland substitutes for 1940s Inverness. See if you can recognize the familiar sights such as Mrs. Baird’s Guesthouses (The Covenanter Hotel) and the Bruce Fountain, where Claire’s husband Frank sees the ghost of Jamie.
    Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Highland Folk Museum, Aultlarie Croft Kingussie Road, Newtonmore PH20 1AY Scotland
In the early afternoon we stop at the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum, which houses replicas of 18th century turf-roofed Highland crofts. These were used as a setting in the first episode of the show.
    Duration: 30 minutes

No meals included on this day.
    Accommodation included: Overnight in Inverness

Day 2: Inverness - Glen Affric - Culloden

Stop At: Culloden Battlefield Visitor Centre, Culloden Moor IV2 5EU Scotland
We start the day with a visit to Culloden, which plays an important role in Scottish history and the Outlander books. It’s not far from the Culloden Battlefield where Claire and Jamie said their tearful goodbyes, before Jamie joined the Jacobite army to fight for the Stuarts. You have the opportunity to explore the visitor centre and site, and pay tribute to those who lost their lives at the last battle fought on British soil.
    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Clava Cairns, National Grid Reference: NH 757 444 off the B9006, 6 km from Inverness Scotland
Travel through winding back roads and discover a 4,000 year old cemetery.
    Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Castle Leod, Strathpeffer IV14 9AA Scotland
After lunch, we continue to Castle Leod, “home of the Clan MacKenzie”, where you can enjoy a relaxing walk while your guide tells you the history of the clan and area. The castle resembles how Diana Gabaldon described Castle Leoch, however she had never heard of this building prior to writing Outlander.

In the afternoon, you can sample ‘The Water of Life’ with a whisky distillery tour and tasting.

    Duration: 1 hour

No meals included on this day.
    Accommodation included: Overnight in Inverness

Day 3: Inverness - Castle Leod - Loch Ness - Fort William

Stop At: Glen Affric National Nature Reserve, Cannich Scotland
Lochs, mountains and pine forests: this is one of Scotland’s most glorious glens. It’s also a great hiding spot for Jamie!
    Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Glenfinnan Monument, Glenfinnan PH37 4LT Scotland
The monument here commemorates the beginning of the last Jacobite rising. It stands framed by Loch Shiel and bedside a famous section of the Jacobite Steam Train railway line, famously used as the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter.
    Duration: 20 minutes

No meals included on this day.
Accommodation included: Overnight in Fort William

Day 4: Fort William - Glencoe - Doune Castle - Edinburgh

Stop At: Doune Castle, Castle Hill, Doune, Stirling FK16 6EA Scotland
One of the most filmed castles in Scotland. It stars as Castle Leoch in Outlander, and featured in Monty Python’s ‘Holy Grail’, and the pilot for Game of Thrones.
    Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Blackness Castle, Blackness, Linlithgow EH49 7NH Scotland
The tough-looking castle looks like it could fend off an entire empire. And in Outlander, it impersonates Fort William.
    Duration: 10 minutes

No meals included on this day.
No accommodation included on this day.

The tour itinerary was good, but our Tour Guide, Ross, greatly enhanced the experience with his smart appearance, polite manners, very deep knowledge of the age when Outlander was set and the Jacobite situation. As an Englishman, I found Ross's views, from a Scottish

Response from Rabbies_Aimee, Guest Relations Manager at 4-Day Outlander Trail Small-Group Tour from Edinburgh
    Responded 4 days ago
Suu is our Accommodation Manager but having started her Rabbie's Career as a driver-guide she is scheduled to lead a couple of tours a year. There is obviously an official rota for this and we ensure her team are prepared, supported and equipped to deal with any issues that arise during these rare, short absences. In this particular situation, you did not receive a response from our accommodation team because there was no message passed to them that you needed assistance. This is a valid complaint in itself but has nothing to do with our accommodation team nor the way they are managed. Each of our guides must take responsibility for their own tour group and ensure that messages are relayed so that appropriate assistance can be provided. We regret that correct procedures were not followed here and that our accommodation team therefore did not receive the message about your concerns and had no opportunity to offer assistance. We can understand why you confronted Suu in these circumstances but you did so when she was out on a site visit with her own tour group and without the resources to assist you. She was not in a position to help and was absolutely right to refer you back to your own guide for assistance. Respectful communication is obviously important and we do apologise that you felt Suu was rude and dismissive. There were numerous faults and areas for improvement that we have addressed with you directly but to suggest that someone has no pride or respect for themselves or others based on their choice of clothing (a casual kilt in this case), is completely inappropriate - what an awful thing to say. This amounts to a personal attack and we strongly feel that its wrong to judge someones character or ability based on their appearance. We are pleased that you enjoyed the tour and appreciate the feedback that you have shared separately about your accommodation. Kind Regards, Aimee

We had an excellent tour with Amy even though she could not find Jamie! She was very informative and funny. She never seemed to mind all the questions from us. The scenery was breathtaking and even though a lot of the places were Outlander based, you still learned a lot about
