Hidden and haunted tour - great fun
Jul. 2021
We booked the tour on a whim and thought, for that price you can't really go wrong. We arrived a little early, got to know some of the other participants and got ready to leave. We had no idea what to expect, but we knew that, with the Edinburgh Dungeon just around the corner, this would probably not be a "jumping out of corners" type of tour. And right we were. It started off above ground, with the two tour guides (Naomi and her colleague), both of whom prestented the stories at each location in a brilliant way (fun enough to keep our attention, but not overly fake-scarey to be annoying). Seeing the vaults themselves was really interesting and hearing some of the stories along with it was quite cool. I felt like a bit too much focus was placed in the individuals themselves, that were down there, and I would have loved to hear a little more about the general ongiongs down in the vaults and stories from that time, that might still be known (famous murders, disappearances, unexplained events back then). That being said, i greatly appreciate that this was not a Dungeon-esque experience, as it allowed you to actually focus on the tour itself.

Hi there, Many thanks for getting in touch and for such a lovely review - Naomi and Stefanie will be thrilled you enjoyed your tour! Funnily enough some visitors prefer to hear anecdotal stories of others' experiences in the vaults, whereas others like the more history focussed content. Feedback is always valuable and we'll be sure to keep your comments in mid as we review our tours. Please do keep in touch on our social channels until we welcome you back next time. Until then, Kat

Spooky and interesting
Jun. 2021
We had an excellent time during our night walking tour of the city and vaults. The host was really into the storytelling and had some great sound effects for creaking doors etc. I found the vaults particularly chilling and really enjoyed the gruesome tales. As we did this tour in summer, it was still pretty light at the beginning of the tour, so I'd recommend going in winter or putting on later tours for summer months.

Hi David, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we appreciate your feedback. The vaults are much more than a basement but are a key part of Edinburgh's history, centuries of years old. You also would have heard stories of ghosts, murders and hangings on your tour. Most people enjoy touring with us as shown by our 5-star rating but we understand that they might not be for everyone. All the best and thanks for joining us, Kim

James Douglas- The Legend
Nov. 2020 • Couples
James Douglas. What a guy. He was our guide when we booked the vaults last week in Edinburgh. The man is an amazing tour guide. Was very interesting to hear the stories he told. Took us on a tour though Greyfriars Kirkyard to tell us the story about George Mackenzie, needs to say i was brickin it. Since there was a small group due to the covid restrictions, it made it easier for him to interact with the other couple on our tour. I would highly recommend James for another tour. Easily the best tour we did while in Edinburgh thanks to James.

Really enjoyable experience. Throughly entertaining guide, who clearly loves his job and knows his subject matter very well! The vaults are a bit claustrophobic but by no means should that put anyone off. The company running this are very good. Vaults are very interesting a real slice of Edinburgh history and worth an hour of your time.
