About
This self guided audio tour helps you escape the modern city of Cardiff and picture what it was like to walk through the streets of the tiny but lively Tudor Town of Cardiff in the 1500s. Most (but not all) of the Tudor buildings are long gone, but thanks to historical records and maps we can piece together, as you meander through the city centre, what you would have seen, what dramatic events you might have witnessed, and who you might have been lucky enough (or unlucky enough!) to meet. Your journey back in time is helped with period music and sound effects to complete a magical journey of the imagination!

About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- sylphr20240 contributionsCardiff like you have never seen it!I had the chance to do this tour when it was being trialled and loved it. She clearly knows the city like the back of her hand, and here she takes you around Cardiff in a way no one else would. You will get to see many filming locations, a number of which are not referenced anywhere else, as well as some context for them, so that you always know where you are and what you are looking at. Sarah is an expert guide, and it shows. I liked that I was able to take breaks from the tour whenever I wanted. It was very refreshing to be able to stop, walk into a shop or have a coffee, and continue the tour afterwards. It makes you feel more in control of your visit. Perfect not only for fans of Doctor Who, but also for anyone who might like to discover the city in a new light. I highly recommend it.Written 24 October 2024
- Excursion5180450 contributionsWondrous Dr WhoWow. We really enjoyed doing this. The tour was informative, detailed and fun. It was great to see the sites and buildings used during filming. Fab way to explore part of the city.Written 21 September 2024
- 713marionc0 contributionsGreat tour for the whole family.A great way to tour the city with a focus on Dr Who locations. Really interesting commentary and the app worked perfectly so we didn't get lost. There were so many places we recognised from the series but we could stop and start again and took time to have a coffee in the Bay so nobody got too tired. We will definitely try some more tours from the same guide!Written 21 September 2024
- Cannynanny1230 contributionsNot one for rainy weatherThis tour might have been more enjoyable had we not had a lot of rain, making the footpaths very muddy and in places unpassable safely. Because of a couple of slopes (muddy and leafy) the tour was not suitable for our disabled friend who uses a stick. We are also not easily scared so did not feel at all spooked. The narrator was good however but this tour is definitely one for the more easily scared and to use later in the night but after a good few days of dry weather.Written 21 November 2023

- elizabethwQ3444IO0 contributionsGreat quality! Great way to learn about the city!Great way to learn about and see the city. Can't beat the price for the quality. The app was easy to use and helped me get to the right starting point. Would recommend to anyone, particularly a solo traveler looking to see some of the main sites in Cardiff.Written 2 November 2023
- joannacQ5654LX0 contributionsSpooky and thought provokingThis was an incredibly reasonable and interesting tour. We went on Halloween night for a bit of spooky fun and the app was excellent and guided us without having to be on our phones. We found it moving, as well as frightening. James is brilliant and we feel like he was by our side as we went along! Would love to do an in person tour with him! Thank you James!Written 31 October 2023
- janetc1910 contributionsHistory of Wales walking holiday. We stayed at Cardiff Bay, we liked the docks, places to shop and the restaurants. We went to Llandaff Cathedral, spotless, it had an organ concert. We went to Barry island... Sand, glorious sand and sea. We went to a medieval village and compared the houses to the BC 60 one. Nothing had changed in over a thousand years. St Fagans was superb. Quite a lot of walking on the holiday but great fun.Written 5 September 2023
- Scenic5913390 contributionsEngaging and AtmosphericMy daughter and I had a fun afternoon exploring Llandaff and learning about the ghosts. The speaker of the audio tour was engaging and his personal stories added to the experience. Of course, it would have been even spookier after dark; but the path through the woods and the graveyard would be spooky enough for us any time of day!Written 22 August 2023
- Emily G0 contributionsGreatThis was a great tour and was very interesting! I definitely recommend it. But make sure to be careful during rainy days as the trail can get super slippery!!Written 3 August 2023
- Sillyfish110 contributionsFantasticThis tour was absolutely fantastic, the voice narrator was great, the sound effects felt realistic to me but that may differ depending what earphones you have. The narrator makes it feel like he is there with you, he describes where you are stood so well it feels like he’s there with you. There were every scenic views, there was also some nice photos you could of taken just outside the cathedral too.Written 2 August 2023
- chimba0 contributionsGreat quick self-guided audio tourWe thought the Ghosts of Llandaff audio tour was great! We were staying nearby and were looking for something different to do and wanted to explore the Llandaff Cathedral (the Cathedral itself is not part of the audio tour). We confused ourselves a couple times with directions but ultimately got back on the right track and thoroughly enjoyed the self-guided tour. Great idea and nicely inexpensive for a quick afternoon's entertainment. We did our tour in the daytime but we can see where it would be even better at dusk or twilight. The Cathedral is impressive as well and deserves some time to go through it and learn about it's long and varied history. Visitng the Cathedral is free.Written 31 July 2023
- aquila83pl0 contributionsLovely walk. Highly recommend. This was a very good way to spending an hour on a sunny Sunday morning. The buildings and garden look beautiful and the tour was helping me see many details and hear the story of Cardiff. I am visiting Cardiff and I am glad to do this tour! I highly recommend.Written 11 June 2023
