- dkjlb110 contributionsBrilliant day outAmazing! We were there a full day and didn't get to see everything! State rooms were well worth seeing as was St George's Chapel. It was very busy but the lines moved continuously so it didn't feel like you were in a queue. We were in time to see the changing of the guard and this did get busy, be warned that there are many people who feel it's ok to push and shove to get their mobile phones in front of you to record the event, so you end up watching it through their screen. The audio tour was very informative and well worth picking up, lots of children's activities. Toilets were immaculate!Written 3 January 2025
- paulwV8316FK0 contributionsA highly recommended site to visitWhat an amazing place this is. My wife thought it better than Buckingham palace, (not so sure on that)... We were on a coach tour and so went in as a group, but still efficient on entry. We were then free to tour on our own which suited us just fine. The crown jewels are just outstanding and so well layed out allowing good views with a bit of patience. The Chapel was again quite outstanding, what history this place holds.Written 14 December 2024
- C8874XSmartins0 contributionsWindsor Castle in DecemberVisited Windsor Castle with friends. On arrival in Windsor it sits prominently above the town and looks spectacular. On arrival, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Entry is by ticket and once you enter the castle you go through security scanners and your bags go through an X-ray machine (just like at an airport). Once inside the Castle you are able to pick up audio machines to guide you round. There are several small gift shops within the Castle. Note - you are not allowed to take photographs within the buildings but can do so in the grounds. Had lunch in the cafe which, considering the location, wasn’t too expensive. Including the time having lunch I spent 4 hours there are could have spent longer. The highlight of the visit (for me) was going inside the chapel which I thought was breathtakingly beautiful. Lovely day out and I would recommend it.Written 3 December 2024
- Review-skiiii0 contributionsWorth a visit if you have the timeWindsor Castle is the kind of Castle that one from the US would picture/image when you think of the world Castle. It's quite beautiful. The dollhouse was fascinating, however the way you view it does not leave you a lot of time to really take it in. It was pretty easy to reach via public transpiration. There are tons of restaurants and shops at the Windsor train station as well as surrounding the castle. The best priced souvenirs are found on the side streets closer to the castle. Many of them have similar products but at vastly different price points so I would advise window shopping them all prior to making any purchases. The castle visit didn't take too long - maybe 3 hours. I also ended up wandering into a small but nice church near the castle.Written 30 November 2024
- JimG2830 contributionsVery Enjoyable VisitWe greatly enjoyed our visit to Windsor Castle. We toured St. George’s Chapel, the State Apartments and Queen Mary’s Dols’ House. The Chapel is inspiring and the Sate Apartments spectacular. The art on the walls are history picture boos and the ceiling are awesome. We treasured every minute at Windsor. Our tour limited our time so if we return, we may take a train and spend the day at the Castle and town. The most interesting aspects of the tour were to be in spaces seen on television. I was surprised at how small the section shown during Prince Phillip’s funeral and how close Queen Elizabeth’s seat was to the crypt. The sights of the rooms used for state dinners titillate the imagination.Written 24 October 2024
- lynnaB7299KI0 contributionsEducational visit and Workshops with HEK - Home Ed KidsWe visited Windsor Castle with HEK - Home Ed Kids. It was an excellent day from start to finish. The staff at the Education Centre were fantastic from the minute we arrived, the whole day was superbly organised. A big thank you to Sophie, Gordon and Jess. The children thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and Sophie made sure to include all children in the workshop, if they wanted to join in. Jess at the Education Centre was super helpful and friendly to everyone and very attentive. We got to see the changing of the Guards and due to all of the children in our group having 'HEK - Home Ed Kids' hi-vis vests on, we got moved to the front to a 'VIP' standing position to watch the whole ceremony, it was fantastic. The staff we spoke to around the castle were very knowledgeable, helpful and keen to answer any questions we had. It was a fun, educational, interesting day for all who attended. Thank you to the Education Team and all of the staff for making it a memorable day for us and the childrren.Written 19 October 2024
- Departure373324359330 contributionsEDUCATIONAL VISIT WITH HEK Home Ed KidsFANTASTIC DAYS WITH HEK Home Ed Kids AT THE CASTLE !!! Super day, very educational. Very well organised by the HEK staff and the Castle Education staff. Kids really loved the day. The staff at the learning centre were amazing, right from the moment we entered the gates. Sophie, Gordon and Jess could not have been more friendly and approachable. The educational workshop was great fun and the children were fully engaged and included by Sophie. Her ability to remember the children's names would have put the 'Rain Man' to shame. Staff in the castle were always on hand to lend assistance and share their knowledge of the buildings and it's secrets. Tori and Alice were particularly willing to spend time talking to the children. Only slight problem we encountered was whilst entering into the building with the dolls house...the staff didn't want to let the children in as they didn't have wrist bands on. These weren't issued to the children, so maybe something Gordon will have to address in future. Altogether we had a wonderful day, full of history, learning and fun. Top marks to the education team and castle staff for making a lot of children very happy.Written 19 October 2024
- lizw1820 contributionsA beautiful Castle full of historyWe visited on a sunny Saturday and booked the 10-10.30 slot. It takes a while to go through security etc so factor this into your day. Changing of the Guard was happening on our visit (see website for days/times,). This was a real experience to watch and the band was amazing!! We had to skip the dolls house due to limited time. The State Apartments are amazing and extra rooms are open in the winter. The audio guide is good. You have to queue to get into both but the dolls house queue was longer. St George's chapel is amazing and beautiful. I found it emotional walking past the Queen's tomb to pay our respects. It's a great place to visit and so much history. We could have spent a whole day here but had to leave by 130 due to a train we were getting home. The worst thing was the amount of people especially tour groups. Unfortunately there were lots of queues and lots of queue jumpers which was annoying! If we had known how busy it was we would have allowed more time. We got in just before 1030 and 3 hours wasn't enough time to see and experience everything. Definitely worth a visit but if you can avoid peak times I'm sure you will have a more peaceful trip!Written 6 October 2024
- KClews2070 contributionsWhere the royals dwell. One of the most beautiful (and grandiose) castles which I visited yet. It contains a lot of history, including St George's Chapel (just beautiful). We also had the opportunity to visit the State Apartments and Queen Mary Doll House. Worth the trip from London. Easily accessible through Paddington Station. Buy tickets beforehand.Written 4 October 2024

- nfo2390 contributionsWindsor castle the great kitchen tour and conquer the towerWe did two tours today, the great kitchen tour and conquer the tower. The great kitchen tour was made amazing by our tour guide Celine, she was so informative but also made the tour even more exciting with her enthusiasm, I would definately recommend this tour and if you want that added extra just make sure your on Celines tour. We were also lucky to get a place on conquer the tower, what a fantastic tour, Ben took us around and painted a picture of the history of the tower, Windsor castle and all the surrounding areas, the view from the tower was amazing, Ben had an encyclopedic knowledge and you could see the passion for what he was doing. Great tours well worth the money, well done Celine and Ben.Written 15 September 2024

- Jackel F0 contributionsLovely view and enviornment!I went there with my girlfriend and the view of the castle was great! The long walk was really surprisingly long as I really did not expect it was like unlimited even with a nice weather! As we went early, we were also lucky to see solders walking formally with horses! It was really an unforgettable moment for both of us as a first date!Written 29 August 2024
- sisterbay7160 contributionsLovely palace easy to see on your ownLoved Windsor! The audio tour is all that is needed to see this impressive palace that is steeped with history and simply stunning in size. I do wish I would have simply taken the train on my own ( for us, Waterloo-Windsor nonstop) as our tour did not allow nearly enough time to see it all (the tour included Stonehenge, which we had visited first). We left the tour and took the train home. St George's Cathedral is stunning and has Evensong services around 5-5:30 each night. Years ago I went to one with the full boys choir and it was ethereal; this time around there was no choir as it was summer holiday, so we didn't stay.Written 27 August 2024

Bought tickets through a third party website ( my mistake) on arrival couldn't find the actual ticket on my phone but the staff were amazingly helpful and after taking up a lot of their time, they printed our ticket for us. The weather was awful and that was the only downside to the visit. The free audio guide was easy to use and very informative, we spent most of our time inside and there was plenty to see. The cafe tables and chairs were throughly cleaned after every use, our tea and cake was lovely and a reasonable price. Every visitor was politely reminded to wear their mask properly and use the hand sanitizer. I can't praise the staff enough, they couldn't do anymore to make it a wonderful time, even in terrible weather. I would encourage everyone to book tickets through the Royal Trust Collection and not a third party site as I did.

A very beautiful castle with so much history! So well kept and clean, and lots of staff around to answer any questions and provide more information. The Queen should be so proud of the staff and this beautiful castle.
We didn’t realise we could donate our ticket cost until we got home and read the small print, so I would recommend staff give you the option/make you aware of this when collecting tickets. It was very easy to get my free carers ticket, and the book for children about Windsor Castle is fabulous!
The Dolls House was closed when we visited, which was what I was most looking forward to seeing. There was no signage to say it was closed, and I was only made aware it was closed when I asked a member of staff where to go to see it. No biggie, but was such a shame.
The cafe was lovely, but £2.50 for a can of Pepsi Max was awful. The hot drinks were so nice though.
Changing of the guards was amazing, just such a shame children and wheelchair users cannot see. Our main reason for coming was so my little nephew could see the changing of the guards, and it was such a long time for him to stand when he couldn’t see a thing.
Queuing is an issue getting into the apartments for disabled individuals like myself. I cannot queue due to a bowel condition that means I have to leave queues a lot to attend to toileting needs. I was wearing a lanyard and have lots of proof I cannot queue, but they didn’t seem recognised at Windsor Castle. This wouldn’t stop me coming again, but maybe is something Windsor Castle could think about.
Anyway, thanks for a lovely day!

What a delight! Windsor Castle is well worth a visit. The grounds are extensive and, as you can imagine, immaculately maintained. Entry includes use of small media devices which provide a full commentary during the tour, which you can take at your leisure. Tickets are fairly reasonable (£23.50 for a standard adult, £21.20 for over 60s and I think there's a family rate (sorry didn't note the cost of that). We bought a very well-produced/illustrated guide for £4.99 which was well worth it. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures inside the castle but there is so much to see, so much history to consume. St Georges Chapel (where Harry & Meghan married) is so beautiful, truly enchanting (even if you're not religious)! Definitely well worth a few hours to wander aroung and there's a lovely cafe where you can purchase reasonably-priced, tasty food. We took the renowned 'Long Walk' which leads from the castle to a (small|) hillside statue of George III (on horseback) and were delighted to see deer roaming freely. A great day out.

Fantastic place to visit, would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Windsor, staff are extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. They are especially attentive to disabled guests or guests with disabilities they will go out of the way to help you as much as they can. I would also definitely recommend claiming your free one year pass when you visit (only possible if you book directly through the website) only thing that was a let down was the price of food in the cafe. Approx £5-£6.50 for a sandwich and about £5-£7.50 for a cake. But very nice though.

We visited the castle whilst staying for the weekend and expected a bit more given the high price for the admission. We didn't invest in an audio guide as we expected that there would be information provided around the castle, due to the price of the ticket but this was not the case. Without the audio guide, you are just looking at different things without any context of what they are. We also had our tickets booked for 3pm that wasn't the last booking of the day but felt like it. Most of the staff were often checking their watches and it felt like we were being rushed around. Compared with other castles in the UK, this one was nothing special and offered hardly anything by way of information or experience, so would recommend getting the audio guide if you want to learn about the castle and the things within it.

The Windsor Castle tour was more crowded than I feel comfortable with currently. That said, the tour was very nice.
The prices are a bit steep, a free audio guide is included with the rate.
Sunday-Friday £26.50
Saturday-£28.50
Family discount is available if you book directly with them.
FREE: You can watch the guards march/parade leaving the castle and head back to their barracks at 11:30. Many folks gathered to watch, it is worth watching.

I recently visited Windsor Castle for the first time and I absolutely loved it.
I got the train there and the castle is just a short walk from Windsor and Eton Riverside station. I purchased my ticket to the castle online as you have to book a time slot to arrive. We arrived at the visitor entrance and were greeted by members of staff who directed us where to go and get our tickets scanned. There was no queue in front so we were able to go and get our bags scanned and then went straight to the desk and get our tickets scanned and pick up the brochure we had paid for online.
We then picked up the audio guides which were really informative and good to listen to on the way round. We started off by going to the State Apartments which were amazing. It was so interesting to listen to the audio as we were going round. The rooms are amazing and learning about the history of each of them was quite something.
There are staff dotted around to help guide you in the right direction which is great as when you are outside it's a bit daunting as to where to go. The two female staff we chatted to were really friendly and very informative. I must say every single staff member we came into contact with were all extremely friendly which was really nice.
After wandering round the state apartments we then found ourselves outside where you can go to the gift shop. There seem to be a few gift shops along the tour and they were all really nice with a variety of different things on sale such as tea sets, cuddly toys, tea towels and the general things you would find in a gift shop.
I didn't realise that included in the price of the ticket you are allowed to go into St George's Chapel, I just assumed it would be off limits. I'm so pleased we were able to go inside and I think it was my favourite part of the day. We were able to go into the quire which was just phenomenal.
Photography is prohibited inside any of the buildings so you are only able to take photos outside.
The only bad thing about the day was the weather as it was torrential rain. I'd love to back at some point when the weather is better.

I’ll admit I baulked when I saw the ticket price but my mum and dad wanted to go and bought the tickets (I would have done but mum got there first). I have to say, having now been, I think it’s good value and would recommend it. I’m glad I went.
If you take your time on the tour, which you can do, and take in the sights and listen to the audio (which is broken down in to nice length sections) then you’ll get a lot out of it. The castle interiors are probably grander than I thought they’d be. The paintings are just incredible, particularly when you know they’re the tip of an iceberg of a collection, and the gifts that have been given are just incredible.
If I had to complain then the navigation of the tour could be clearer at the start ie where to start, but once you get your bearings and used to the controller, it’s ok. However, it’s the price of snacks and drinks that need to be reduced. £3.50 for a filter coffee and £5.50 for a basic sandwich reflects the captive market and is just higher than it should be. And, I live in London, so I’m used to exorbitant prices.
It’s an enjoyable experience and worth a visit, but you have to be interested in it to get the most out of it, and take your time. I saw parents dragging kids around doing the 5 minute version of the tour, not taking in the sights or listening to the audio, which is just a waste. The queen wouldn’t approve ;-)

A must do if you're a royal fan. The castle interior is absolutely stunning and beautifully maintained. It was also nice to see an exhibit that displayed how the fire in the 90s destroyed part of the castle. It's a shame you can't take photos inside the castle or the chapel, although I know that this is due to it being a current royal residence. Only reason I can't give 5 stars is because some of the staff were a bit curt; we visited after Her Majesty was buried in St George's Chapel and were told to move along by a staff member while paying our respects after a few seconds. I do appreciate that this is probably due to crowd control but it was delivered rudely. The cafe inside the castle has a limited selection of items but wasn't unbelievably expensive. There are a few gift shops around the grounds (including inside the chapel) which have a good selection of items, though some are overpriced. Would definitely recommend picking up an audio tour as it was very thorough and provided great details about the castle interior and chapel; it was especially educational when inside the main apartments as there is a lot of history about the items contained within. Be aware that the train ticket here from London can be a bit pricey, but is probably still cheaper than taking a taxi.

Great visit to the castle, would recommend buying tickets before to avoid queues. Audio available which helped lots of interesting history to see, gift shops and ice cream available to buy. You can bring a picnic to eat in the grounds plenty of places to sit. Toilets nice and clean, disabled facilities available. Lifts available with lots of staff on hand to help and answer questions. No photos inside the castle! Outside the castle, loads of places to eat from most nationalities, shopping centre too. Parking is tricky, we parked at the train station just a 10min walk to the castle and much cheaper than the closer car park charging £3 per hour and you must have coins - what's that these days! A great day out awaits

Will it be possible to use it on 16th December. I will be on my Mobility scooter, and can get transport to Windsor that day.
How do I book a space?

My husband cannot walk up steep hill or long distances. Is there a way to be taken right up to entrance of castle or George's Chapel?
Written 27 October 2021
If you have a wheelchair, it will no problem (apart from the quite steep walk up to the ticket centre and the shorter uphill walk from the centre to the entrance). If you email them in advance, they may be able to help.

You need to contact the booking/ticket line , I was charged £5 for a time change on my tickets so we could see the changing of the guard.
