- The Family E0 contributionsFree Walking Tour of BathThoroughly enjoyed our free walking tour of Bath with Footprints Tours. Tasha was our guide, very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area. There were only 3 of us on our tour so we felt like we were on a private tour. Tasha allowed time for us to take photos and didn't make us feel rushed. We saw all the highlights Bath has to offer and I would highly recommend this tour. Tasha did not pressure us for a tip however we felt her tour was definitely worth a tip. We had plenty of time to explore other areas of Bath after our tour had finished.Written 4 March 2020

- Suzy G0 contributionsThe history of Bath is amazing - so says Sarah! My friends and I went on an overnight trip to Bath, googled walking tours and came up with Footprints. Our guide was Sarah, a lovely bubbly young lady who was a mine of information about the history of Bath right back to Sulis Minerva (see, I was listening!) and right up to the current day with the closure of ‘Mineral Water Hospital’. The two hour tour was fascinating and we were lucky that it was a gloriously sunny morning. I’ve been to Bath several times before and already knew my way around, but Sarah’s very informative and interesting tour made me realise how little I knew. You pay a voluntary donation for the tour so it’s certainly not ‘daylight robbery’!....go on this tour and you will find out about the origins of this old English saying!Written 8 February 2020
- littlejanet50 contributionsFree tour of BathSigned up for a free tour of Bath with Footprints on Friday. Tour was Saturday at 11. Sarah our guide arrived promptly. She seemed quite young but was very friendly and so knowledgeable. The tour lasted 2 hours, she kept it very interesting. There were even a couple of children on the tour and the older child was interested too. At the end of the tour she had explained that she worked for tips only so it was discretionary but sh3 put so much in it that you obviously wanted to pay for the experience. Well worth it and very enjoyableWritten 8 February 2020
- albertorousseaux0 contributionsGood to get to know the cityExcellent tour leaded by Tasha, with our starting point at the Abbey, and then visiting all the most remarkable places along the town. Tasha was great and very knowledgeable. She gave us a lot of info regarding important places like the Abbey, the roman baths and the Royal Crescent. Highly recommendable!Written 6 January 2020

If you want to learn more about Bath's history and beautiful architecture, I highly recommend a walking tour with a volunteer city guide. We spent two hours today with Matt and Martin and got a real sense for life in Bath in the Georgian era. They were both informative and entertaining. The tour combined with a visit to the Roman Baths gave us an excellent overview of this amazingly beautiful city.

My husband and I visited the Roman Baths yesterday evening around 7.30pm. We had read some reviews that said it is lovely and quiet at night so we thought we’d take advantage of that idea! Well, it was amazing. Beautifully lit up with flame candles and watching the sun go down whilst in the baths was just incredible. It is pricey but highly recommend for a one off experience, the museum itself is very well laid out with free audio guides allowing you to delve further into history when and as you please. We learnt so much from the audio guides and would highly recommend the whole experience!

I booked this walking tour last minute and got a wonderful walk around Bath with tons of fun facts and a great portrait of the city’s history from Charlie, a classics student who grew up in Bath. The tour touched on the Roman, medieval, and Georgian/Victorian eras of the city and some of its key architectural features. Can’t recommend enough, Charlie did a great job! Just FYI for planning purposes, the 2 hour walking your does not include time in the Roman baths- entrance to the baths/museum is at the very end of the tour, when the guide dropped us off for a self guided visit at the baths.

Having not visited on our last trip we decided to book tickets. The weather was poor, drizzle to raining. We had booked for 1500-1515 and arrived five minutes early, we had to stand in the rain until 1500. It looks like 160 tickets are available for each fifteen minutes. A one way system was in force, there are toilets at the beginning and the end but you are not allowed to move against the flow. The gallery section was not too bad as it is outside and very spacious but once inside everyone is herded together, making it impossible to see some exhibits. One room was so full we were starting to get pushed together, with the lack of ventilation. A very strong perfume triggered my allergy and we skipped the room. After an hour we were spewed out into the shop, which is the exit.
Apparently there were character actors present but we didn't see any.
I have visited many Roman sites including a city, an amphitheatre and several villages in Tunisia, as well as the sites in Chester. We are members of the National Trust and visit regularly their properties.
The Roman Baths are run by the local council and feel as if they are a very good cash cow, at £29/adult brings in £4,640 every fifteen minutes on admission alone.
Reducing the numbers by half would improve the visitors experience but until then, give this one a miss.

This was a great tour for our family. We knew there was a lot of history and things to see in Bath and its Georgian Architecture. While the tour starts in front of the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, they were not a direct part of the tour. The tour really focused on those Georgian assets, Pulteney Bridge, Queen's Square, the Circus and the Royal Crescent with lots of stories about Bath characters like Beau Nash, John Wood, William Johnstone and Frances Pulteney. George did a great job of leading us and telling us a lot about Bath from the founding with Prince Bladud to the crowning of King Edgar to Beau Nash.
The tour then brings you back to the city center where if you paid for the option you will get timed tickets to enter the Roman Baths at that time. When you leave the Baths, the Abbey will then be open for a visit. As always, having a tour guide allows you to get pictures of the entire family.

My friend and I did this walking tour on the 15th Nov - our guide was Gracie and we had a lovely small group (8 of us). Gracie was knowledgeable and personable, and the tour was a great guide for seeing around the city and getting our bearings, as we went to places we hadn't been to when my friend and I had just wandered around the streets ourselves the day before. A great way to spend a couple of hours.

Thank you so much for your kind review! We’re so glad to hear that you and your friend enjoyed the tour with Gracie. It’s great to know that the tour helped you discover parts of the city that you hadn’t seen prior—Bath has so much to offer, and we’re thrilled Gracie was able to show you around in such a personable and informative way. We hope you left with some great memories of Bath, and we’d love to welcome you back on another tour in the future.

Lucas was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable. I liked that we only had 12 to 15 people in the group. We only had 3 hours in Bath so it was a good experience to get some history and an overview. I recommend going into the Roman baths so after 1 1/2 hr touring the city then spent 30 - 45 minutes in the baths. There is a lot to see & the audio guides are informative.

As solo traveler this time I hit the jackpot with choosing Footprints Tours. Their travel guide Maya was just amazingly good at her job, managed to tell us the story of the city and also kept us smiling all the time with her amazing smile and positivity. She made my day, and believe the rest of the group which she guided through the city. Definitely will choose Footprints Tours again.

We enjoyed a great walking tour around Bath with George last week, showing us all the main sights of this lovely city. He explained the history and architecture in lots of detail and delivered us back to The Roman Baths where we walked around the Baths with an audio guide which, once again proved very informative and enjoyable. From the outside, you can see people looking down into the baths and may think there’s not much to see. However, the exhibits continue down through the lower levels with explanations of life at the time and how it would have looked. Ever heard the line “what have the Romans ever done for us?”, visit here and you’ll see influences on modern day life everywhere.

Hello, we’d like to come on the walking tour but there is no availability for the Roman baths right now. So we wanted to know whether we can book just a city walking tour or if a large chunk of it includes the baths And it wouldn’t really be worth it? Thank you

Looking to book for a group of 10, what would be the cheapest way?? Thanks
Written 17 September 2018
The cheapest way to see the Roman Baths, Bath England is to do it on your own. First the museum exhibits are large, 3D, and excellent, but with limited space around them for viewing. My view was obstructed by a gaggle of school children listening to the audio presentation and not studying the exhibits. So the flow was slow. Consequently, trying to hear a tour guide’s explanation will be difficult in tight spaces. Second, the path through the museum is one way so it's difficult to jump around based on the size of the crowds. That is if you want to spend time studying the models and exhibits.
There is never sufficient time to learn a great deal from a museum. There are too many impediments. The best way to learn anything about the Roman Baths in Bath, England is to learn about it from the comfort of your easy chair before you go. If you don't have time for that, do a reconnaissance via you-tube. Rick Steves has a good video. And Wikipedia has a good wright up with photos. I also recommend subscribing to the Amazon Prime/ Great Courses for a month to view the course called "Understanding Greek and Roman Technology." It will cost less than $10 USD.
To prepare your short introduction to the Baths for your group, consider your audience. Consider their background knowledge. Consider what they want to know at the end of this adventure. Review the available online material and determine what is important to your group. If possible give them a bibliography, and list of media such as videos to review prior to you tour. If possible have a discussion group prior to your visit and after.
There are four parts to the Bath Complex. See the W i k i p e d i a article to quickly learn more. The history of the Baths covers over 2,000 years so there are many topics about which to learn, should you have the interest.
