Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet St Night Walking Tour

By Jack the Ripper-Walks
About
It is a walk through a little visited part of London unknown to many tourists . Sweeney Todd's barbers shop supposedly stood at 186 Fleet St on the corner of Hen & Chicken Court according to the original story published in a penny dreadful magazine in 1845. Fleet St is also the former newspaper publishing area of London with small alleyways, hidden places and old pubs dating back to just after the Great Fire in 1666.

Great experience, great, communication, great tour guide
Jenny the tour guide made the whole experience very easy from start to finish. Her communication was first class and her knowledge about the subject was second to non. Highly recommend this Jack the Ripper Immersive Tour.

    Loved this tour
Our guide Jenny was fantastic. Energetic and knowledgeable guided us through the London roads and kept us interested and engaged. Gave us really interesting information about the area, photos, incredible details. With the headphones we get deeply immersed in the story and while we walk we are always connected so don’t miss any information. I loved this tour! Jenny is amazing, a true ripperologist and I really recommend this tour.

    Great !
My husband and I did this tour last night. Jenny was such a brilliant guide. She had so much information about the murders, how and where they took place. Accompanied by pictures/letters really brought the whole experience to life. A tour not to be missed !!

    Definitely recommend
Our tour guide Serena was brilliant. Informative and fun. We had a great time. The real photos from the investigation were a great touch, albeit gorey! Only downside was the London city noise on a Friday night, however this was not the fault of anyone and it didn’t spoil the tour.

Brilliant Tour with Excellent Guide and Real value for Money
Our guide was brilliant and so informative not just about Jack the Ripper but about the part of London we walked through. We really enjoyed the tour, excellent value for money and very informative. Walking through the exact venues and seeing the past pictures of the place, really brought events to life. Our tour guide couldn't have been more, friendly, informative and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed and recommend this tour. Anne and Steve.

Not exactly accurate or gangster focused but fun
I was a little confused as to why some parts of the ‘gangster tour of soho’ focused on 70s pop stars rather than gangsters as well as spending the first 10 minutes talking about the London Palladium. Some of the facts that were mentioned and some of the photos were not accurate. That said it was a fun 2 hours and the tour guide was a nice lady. It just felt a little bit thrown together and inaccurate. Not exactly as it was described.

Gripping with chilling tales of evil deeds of Jack the Ripper and how he evaded capture !
To start we had Fish & Chips at Poppies and it was delicious and lm fussy about my fish & chips but the tour was even better wrap up warm as Jenny our tour guide will certainly give you chills with the bloody gore of the story that depicts Old Whitechapel and Jack the Ripper she has 30years of experience and as she says YOU decide ? Bravo 👏 This lady certainly keeps you entertained!

    Very enjoyable
Very informative, I wish the tour had lasted longer! It's just a shame that Whitechapel is so over developed now that it has lost its authenticity.

    Engaging and interesting!
Jenny was a great guide- and really knew her stuff! I appreciated her logic, and personal research into the topic that really informed the talk- particularly concluding on more up to date research on who Jack the Ripper might have been. Really engaging and interesting talk. Walk was manageable and you could tell it was interesting as we were out for 2.5 hours and it flew by! Would recommend to anyone with an interest in Jack the Ripper or even the history of East London.

Was it really worth the time & effort?
Firstly, we were invited by friends as part of a free 4 person voucher, so in fairness there was no cost involved. However, would I have paid for this ? … No … two thirds through the walk a group of four walked off. I’d advise not to do this on a Friday & Saturday evening as during the tour , around us flowed the hustle & bustle of weekend London Night Life. The day that we chose was during the Demonstration regarding the Palestine/Israel war, so lots & lots of people mulling around. You have to be fairly fit and wrapped up warm if it’s Winter. The guide, a lady in costume in keeping with the era, pulled a trolly type suitcase around which I thought was an amplifier so that when the lady spoke we could hear her. No such hope and there were times when nothing could be heard due to the surrounding, “ White Noise “. The guide kept going off into minor tangents of knowledge of the era, though there was a slither of tie to the subject, sometimes I struggled to see what the connection was. So much history that whilst relating to the 1800’s, was not directly linked to the Jack the Ripper story. Too much chatter and not enough focus on the event.

The walk around Temple was lovely due to the wonderful buildings, but as walking tours go this was really boring. Jenny our guide was not dynamic or entertaining she just droned on like a school teacher. Some of the time we couldn't even hear her as she stopped in such unsuitable places. I know Sweeney Todd is a fictional character but surely if the tour is called"Sweeney Todd " you would expect a bit more than just a review of a couple of TV shows. I was not entertained by photographs of a cave in Scotland? Very odd mix match of a tour, a bit of Henry viii, a bit of Jack the Ripper and a whole lot of Knights of Templar. Sorry, not for me and cannot recommend. Also a tip for the guide.. never set off on a tour where you have to talk for two hours without a bottle of water, and try to turn up on time!

I am sorry you found the tour boring and did not think it included enough Sweeney Todd but as I stated in my previous review there is just not enough information about this fictional character to fill up a 1.3/4 - 2 hour tour. To do a tour that lasts less than this would not please most people as they would feel short changed. The cave in Scotland where Sawney Bean lived I mentioned because he was an earlier cannabalistic serial killer according to the Scottish legend trying to show, there are others in history similar to Sweeney Todd.

We have been on a few London walks over the years. So know the protocol.
Last night Jenny was a few minutes late which seemed to fluster her. She never properly introduced herself to the group.

Jenny's first topic was Anne Boleyn! I was very surprised as I had booked a Sweeny Todd tour, so I checked with others to see if I was on the right tour. Apparently I was.

We were a huge group of 38, far too many people to be standing about on narrow Fleet Street pavement. Often I couldn't hear what she was saying as the traffic rumbled by. She did take us to quieter areas and alley ways.
At one point she asked members of the group if anyone had some water as she had a cough! Post covid should we be sharing water bottle? A lady did give her the remains of her drink.
Jenny probably knows her staff but she was more like a school teacher than an entertainer. Felt like I was on school trip.

Hi, I am sorry the tour was not up to your expectations but there is just not enough information available to make the whole tour about Sweeney Todd, that is why there are other facts included including the Temple, a place many people have never visited and most people find a beautiful interesting area . The details of this tour are published on my website so people can see what is included before they attend. People on this tour had all paid a discount price so I have to take this amount of people to make a living. I breathed in bit of pollen in that made me cough, f I had not had a sip of water I would not have been able to stop coughing and could not have continued. I was extremely grateful for it.

I did the Sweeney Todd walk. There was actually very little about Sweeney Todd. Lots of other subjects brought in - Jack The Ripper, The Knights Templar, Dr. Johnson etc. The locations were lovely and unusual and it was overall enjoyable. The guide was a little scatty though but full of knowledge, even if a little haphazard!

Thanks for the review! As I did explain at the start there is just not enough info to do a whole two hour tour just on Sweeney Todd alone so although I go to the sites of Mrs Lovett's pie shop and Sweeney's barber shop, I also include these beautiful locations connected to the other subjects you mention, as they are really worth visiting.
