    Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

We loved our two hour visit and grateful that we were paired with Nathalie who was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with our two families with a combined seven kids. Even though the venue was packed to the gills, we were so impressed with the Museum itself and would highly recommend to others. And thanks to Nathalie’s recommendation of entering through the back, we avoided a VERY long line in the front. Overall, unforgettable experience and hope to visit again one day.

Guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and considerate of guests. As museum opens at 10am, and going through security can take 15 minutes, the tour start time of 10am is unreasonable. Our guide completed the full tour but of course the tour ended later than planned.

Also the museum website would not allow us to book the 10am timeslot, so despite being 6th in line at the gate from 9.15am, we were forced to wait till those with booked time slots were given priority through security. Not the guides fault but extremely frustrating

Filomena was our tour guide and she was no doubt knowledgeable and fun to learn from. However, the British Museum is extremely crowded and there were no audio boxes to help with the tour - she projected as best as she could, but it was hard to hear and hard to follow. Filomena said it was because she has been charged for audio boxes that previous guests lost - what she would lose in occasional fines, she would gain in tips. Our group started with 20 people and dwindled down to 6 as people left or fell behind and got lost in the crowd. I didn't feel that this was worth the money, but not because of Filomena's tour guide abilities. The logistics were poor and scarcely better than doing the museum on your own.

Unfortunately, this was our last tour and the least successful. First, no details on meeting location & connecting with guide despite my having asked twice (not even now have I gotten a reply) which meant a lot of confusion, running around trying to find our group, and delays, which meant rather than getting into one of the most busy and large museums to see as many things as possible before all the massive crowds arrived, we were in an ocean of people trying to elbow our way into space to see spectacular objects. Also, kind and friendly as our guide was, honestly feel that for the cost and time the quality/depth of knowledge was not sufficient…. Again, nice fellow but needs to have more historical knowledge and insight to justify the cost for what is actually a free museum that is filled with literally one of a kind objects….

The guide we paid for didn't show up, nor respond to phone calls or texts.

At 943am we got an automated text that we needed to meet the guide at 945am, but all of the literature we had from our confirmation said to be at the museum at 10am.

I have asked for a refund.

Our guide, Philomenia (sp?), spoke English with a very heavy Italian accent. Understanding her was difficult. The museum was crowded as usual and noisy. Our guide would turn her head away from us to explain particular details about a piece and we couldn’t hear a word she said. I spoke to her about not being able to hear her and she didn’t change her procedures at all, just said Okay.
I noticed that several other groups around us had ear pieces and their guide had a microphone to speak with her customers. I asked our guide why she didn’t provide ear sets and she said that she would have to buy them herself and they were expensive.
After about 30 frustrating minutes, we went off on our own. I’ve been on a lot of tours and this one was the absolute worst one I have ever been on. I would like a refund because this tour was a total waste of my time and money.

Joe was our tour guide. He was an excellent communicator. Texting individuals the exact location of our meeting space and even waited for the late arrivals. He was extremely knowledgeable and presented the art and artifacts with ease and in a way that brought the history alive! Joe answered all our questions and was very kind.

Unfortunately, it was a bad experience: in rainy weather and on a Saturday, there was a huge rush, a 100 m queue in front of the entrance, only a lie. The English voucher correctly stated the meeting point at the main entrance, but suddenly an email arrived in German stating the meeting point at the back entrance of the museum. So a meeting point outside would be important in order to safely avoid the queue with the guide. Then in the museum there were far too many people and a hell of a lot of noise, so unfortunately I hardly understood anything. I prefer to take an audio guide and choose what I want to see myself

Our tour guide was fabulous…efficient and full of information. This museum is utterly astounding in its size and volume of pieces, and definitely glad we had the guide to whittle it down to a jam packed 2 hrs. Plan to spend at least a couple of extra hours wandering around on your own. One could spend days here and not see everything. My only complaint was the temperature; it was a very warm day and it’s not well ventilated so it was warmer inside than out and that made for some significant discomfort.

Honestly, be realistic, two hours is just about what it takes to get oneself oriented to the Museum layout, and the crowds were positively crushing! Thankfully our guide Selina expertly guided us through to some not-to-be-missed highlights. As an archeologist/Egyptologist, she imparted a wealth of info during the tour. Don't overlook the kitten mummy.
