An excellent tour at The Mary Rose Museum. We chose the highlight tour on top of the main ticket price. It was just myself and my husband on the tour and we were so glad that we chose this option. Greg, our tour guide was just fantastic. He was so knowledgable and interesting to listen to. Quite a task to fit everything in to an hour but he managed this without us feeling rushed. We had a great time. We had wanted to see the Mary Rose since we saw it raised and we were not disappointed. Big thanks to Greg.

Going around the HMS Victory was quite an eyeopener. Fascinating to see how people lived on board all that time ago.
The Mary Rose tour was also interesting.

We had a private tour from London in September, 2019 and it was great. First, the trip from London was worth it to see the countryside. When we arrived in Portsmouth, we went to the needle tower and got a view of one of the most historic ports from which western civilization was exported. We then went to see the Mary Rose. That is a spectacular museum although it is unlike any museum we have ever seen. Literally half of the ship, from stem to stern, is exposed from the beam to the upper deck. It is all behind glass to keep it from deteriorating. We went through three floors of the museum, the ship always in view. We literally saw what a 1500's ship looked like, the items aboard, some skeletons like that of a dog from the original sinking. This is a fantastic museum.

We then went to see the HMS Victory. Equally fantastic. Of course, everyone went to the brass plaque on the main deck where Nelson fell. More interesting, one gets to see how seamen lived in those days, how they slept, the complete lack of privacy, the cannons, the kitchens, the hold. While it is one of the most historic ships in the world, there is nothing like seeing it.

This was one of the most interesting parts of a London trip. The drive to Portsmouth was not too long and we got to see much of the countryside. Portsmouth, unlike London, was NOT crowded at all. First we went to the Mary Rose. This is one of the most unusual, interesting museums in the world. The ship has been brought up, at least one side of it has, and the three floor museum is built so you can walk the decks of the ship in a parallel area seeing the internals of the ship itself. Due to humidity, the ship is walled off in a glass area. You get to literally see what the inside of a ship from the 1500's was like. On the top floor, there are are artifacts from long bows, to a dog, to the leather clothing to the eating utensils. The Mary Rose was a wonderful experience.

We then went to the HMS Victory. There were not more than 20 people there and it was a very interesting visit. There is a bronze plaque where Nelson checked out and there are guides in many parts of the ship who tell you what went on there several hundred years ago. Great trip.
