    National Gallery
    Stop: 3 hours
Instead of browsing the National Galley aimlessly, let your guide immerse you in the techniques and history behind some of the world’s most famous artists. You’ve heard of Seurat and da Vinci, but what do you really know about them? Learn about the painters behind the paintings as we browse our favorite works by other masters like Botticelli, Monet, Rembrandt, and Vermeer. If none of those names mean anything to you, we’ll make sure that changes by the end of the tour. The National Gallery houses paintings dating back to the 1300s all the way up through the 1900s, so there is no shortage of choice. Visit Jan van Eyck’s “The Arnolfini Portrait” or something more familiar like Van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” to understand the full scope of work on display. During your tour, you'll be armed with the essential information and history needed to appreciate the more than 2300 paintings on display at one of the world’s most visited museums.

Wonderful day
Jan. 2020 • Couples
Today we visited the N Gallery and had a wonderful time. The gallery was busy but people kept moving and lots of space to stand and admire the wonderful works of art.The David Bomberg exhibition gives belated recognition to an important British artist whose work deserves to be a bit better known. The exhibition was v interesting in demonstrating his abstract work by comparing his prelude sketches and paintings. We then had a look at the Dutch painting of the 17th Century in which the gallery have a strong collection of .We had a very instructive conversation with Alan the attendant on duty in R 23 about the Arnolfini portrait by Y Van Eyck who pointed out some interesting features .All the gallery attendants were always pleased to help and this helped to make our day enjoyable.Well done team!We highly recommend and will be back.
Thank you.

Incredibly interesting tour by a really enthusiastic guide
Jan. 2020
My Mum was in London for the weekend and I treated her to this tour for her Birthday. We were very fortunate as even though we had booked on the semi-private tour we were the only ones who had booked it so we got our very own private tour! Kathy Harrison was out guide and we really enjoyed having her show us around the gallery. It was a real mix or art and history, which was ideal. The tour started outside the gallery with a little history and modern day information on the gallery itself, then we went inside and Kathy brought us through the gallery visiting pieces through the ages from the early 1300's up to the beginning of the 19th century. As we moved through the rooms of art Kathy explained the changes in artistic technique, influences and symbolism as well as giving an indication of the culture and outside influences that the artist would have been exposed to. It was great to get this contextual setting and it really brought the tour to life.

Highlights of the tour for me were seeing the old renaissance masters such as Botticelli and the impressionists such as Monet and Van Gough. I was also newly introduced to some painters and am quickly becoming a fan of Turner!

Thank you for a great tour Kathy!

Excellent Tour
Anthony was absolutely amazing. We’ve been to the national galleries several times across the years, and we have a bit of a background on western art history. However, he made it completely different moving us from a piece to another with a beautifully curated narrative over the pieces and times with passion and deep knowledge.
