Coach was extremely comfortable, driver (Tony) did a great job navigating the roads, etc and our guide, Godfrey, was informative, entertaining but still allowed us some “quiet time” as we were driving in the countryside. He answered many questions from the group but also wasn’t afraid to say he didn’t know something.
When we arrived and Blenheim Palace the horse trials were going on so loved watching from afar.

We were very lucky to have such a knowledgeable guide in Sheila. She was full of little snippets of information and facts that made the trip very interesting and amusing. I must also remark on the splendid coach driving of Romaine, our dedicated driver for the day.
The trip was interesting and full of beautiful scenery.. The three locations were an excellent choice and well worth visiting, even though we only stayed in the Downton Abbey Village for a short time, as it only has a limited amount of TV locations to recommend it. My husband and I could not fault the trip.

It was a great trip. Our guide, Simon, was very engaging, funny and had humorous anecdotes to share regarding the history of places as well as the ethnology of everyday English phrases. He also kept the large group in line with clear instructions and housekeeping notes.
We also had a smooth coach ride with our driver, Ahmed, who drove capably and smoothly despite the pouring rain.
The only area of improvement would be the organisation of check-in for the various tour groups by Evan Evans. Despite arriving 45 minutes before our departure time, we had to queue for 20 minutes with visitors from other groups before we were allowed to board the coach. It appears Evan Evans is short-staffed as they had only 2 people checking in the many tour groups which took a lot of time. I’ve not had to face this issue with other busy and large tour groups.

I would say the only attraction that captured my interest was the visit to Blenheim Palace.
The unfortunate part was that the tour is supposedly to include Burton-on-the-Water for an admission fee. This was not informed or advised to us on the whereabout and the entry. This place is actually the gateway to the Cotswold, Burford located 18 miles west of Oxford. Burford is a small and peaceful medieval town on the River Windrush where we had our lunch.
The 1st stop of the tour was the Blenheim Palace. By far the most interesting and inspiring Palace which is also the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. It is the residence of the 11th Duke and Duchess of Marlborough. Inside the Palace are lavishly decorated State Rooms which include ornate furniture and iconic tapestries. The Sir Winston Churchill Exhibition within the Palace is worth a visit to get an historical insight of this leader.
The next stop was supposed to be the Burford Library to visit for an admission fee. Again, the tour guide did not give us a clear direction to visit this place.
The final stop was at Bampton Heritage & Visitor Centre. Due to the raining weather condition, we did not get to spend more time touring this area. This was the filming location for many famous landmarks (such as the home of Isobel Crawley, Downtown Cottage Hospital, the Church and 2 fictional Pubs i.e. The Grantham Arms and The Dog & Duck) in the TV Drama series Downtown Abbey.
The entire trip was for 9 hours, and we spent most of the time traveling in the bus doing a passing by some of the Villages and seeing the landscape along the way.
Overall, not a very enticing trip experience.

Went today with Megan, she was thoughtful, helpful, and nice, but overall I would not recommend this tour for anyone able to ride a train and a bus on their own : 60% of 10h tour was spent riding a bus, and that's with usual traffic conditions. Too little time at the Palace stop (2h), 1.5h and 0.5h at other stops...trains run as least as fast and allow for more flexibility in itinerary. For example, I'd rather prefer to visit Oxford vs. observing few houses and a church used in the Downton shoots. I gave this tour a shot, but generally prefer to explore what I'm really interested in and at own pace, so such tours probably won't work for me. my brother accompanied me and was also underwhelmed with the experience.

Overrated and overcharged.
Blenheim Palace was beautiful with 2 & half hours visiting time.
The rest of the trip absolutely rubbish.
Cotswold we had 55 mins of visiting time.
As a group we was told this would be around lunch time to grab something to eat . We arrived at 14.15 and told we had 55 minutes to look around . So as you can imagine grab some food no time what’s so ever to walk around.
Downton Abbey village again when you arrive walked around 6 locations of property that featured in the program none of which looks the same as you can imagine for tv purposes. This trip last for 30 mins.
Absolutely overrated over charged and would definitely take a wide birth for £187 for two people to spend much of your day travelling for nearly 9 hours in a coach. I appreciate traffic I understand this but the time spent at venues is very poor.

Dear Stewart,
Thank you for your feedback on your Downtown Abbey, Blenheim palace and Cotswolds tour. We are sorry that you could not experience the tour the way we would have liked you to experience it. We agree that we would like to give more time at each venue however due to time constraints unfortunately this is not possible. We usually spend about 30 minutes there as this is the maximum amount of time the sight allow us to be there for. If you have any further queries please email us at reservations@evanevanstours.co.uk.

This tour disappointed me, because of the speed with which the tour is actually designed, the majority of clients who take this tour are ONLY because the Downton Abbey village is included! but when you arrive you are faced with the unpleasant surprise that you only have 30 minutes to visit the place! That is to say, the church, the hospital location, the souvenir shop and the central square, and well... practically we all rush and run from one place to another taking photos and without observing anything at all because there was no more time!! Then, we headed to Blemheim Palace, once there, the guide started to buy the tickets (that he should have already been purchased in advance) and with the time so limited, we had to wait about 15 more minutes that were taken from the visit. When entering there was a long line, and less time to visit again, as it is Christmas season, there was a Christmas fair and a Peter Pan exhibition inside, which covered all the decoration, paintings and ornaments of the palace. And the cherry on the top was when the guide told us to clean the bus and leave a tip... I usually leave tips, it is an habit of mine, but he could perfectly walk through the aisle with a bag to help pick up the trash as usually all the guides do all over the world!

The first emails about timing of the tour indicated meeting at 9 am and where to meet was absolutely not clear. Thirteen people were left behind, it says something about communications. No refund because they sent an email the day before, I and 12 others missed it, we were traveling and arrived when bus departed.

I was intensely disappointed when I learned that we would NOT be visiting Downton Abbey which is what the hype for the trip led me to believe would happen. It should be made clear that the Abbey is not included. Nor are the fake pubs. As for seeing Lady Crowleys house, it was a joke. The entire ground floor was blocked out by a very high stone wall which we couldn’t enter or see over.
The Cotswolds were nice though more time to wander the streets would have been nice.

Sheila our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and really enjoyed listening to her narrative about the history, architecture, what to see and do during stops, what to expect. It could not have been a better trip. The coach was comfortable and had USB power ports at each seat. The driver was friendly. Enjoyed the journey very much.

For the lunch stop at Bampton: was there any place particularly good for lunch?
Written 29 July 2019
Our tour stopped for lunch in Bourton on the Water, a very picturesque town. We ate at the Bourton Riverside Cafe, in the upstairs room. Pretty view of the river, nice staff, good food. The Bampton stop was for viewing the location of the town for the show Downton Abbey. I do not remember seeing a restaurant and the stop was not very long.
