- muljazz0 contributionsBrilliant tour, highly recommendAbsolutely brilliant tour today with Jorge. He was very informative and interesting and spoke fantastic English. We learnt so much. Practical activities and tastings highlighted everything really well. Many thanksWritten 12 January 2025
- michellewD3228MR0 contributionsSloths, sloths, sloths!!!We had a great visit today. We saw 11 sloths & 1 Black & white owl. We were privileged to see a 3 toed sloth on the ground & then climb up a tree!! Our guide Stephen was really knowledgeable & made sure we got the most from our visit, even fliming the sloths for us!!Written 12 January 2025
- Katie G0 contributionsInformative tour!My boyfriend and I had this booked in advance of coming to Monteverde (my partner put a lot of research into the different tours!) and it did not disappoint. The tour was a good length (2 hours) and provided us with good information. I didn’t catch the name of our guide but he had brilliant English and we also found his humour great. We started looking at coffee before moving on to chocolate and finally sugar cane. There are opportunities to try coffee beans and also cacao straight from the plant (this may be dependant on the time of year you visit) as well as drink sugar cane juice and chew on the cane. We also had a chocolate drink made for us as well as trying some different chocolate. At the end you get taken to the shop / cafe area where you have the opportunity to try some of the coffee and they also had free bananas. Sitting outside was lovely.Written 30 December 2024

- mildog0 contributionsLearned a lot more than we expectedThis is a must do tour if you are visiting Monteverde and you love coffee, chocolate or sugar. My wife surprised me with a guided tour at Don Juan Plantation. We arrived at Don Juan after driving from La Fortuna to Monteverde. We signed in at the front gate then proceeded to the gift shop, restaurant area. There was complimentary coffee, bananas and water for us. Word of advice: don’t drink too much coffee before the tour. They will offer you chocolate, sugar cane and coffee samples during and after the tour. We were both quite wired out on caffeine after the tour. The tour lasted for an hour & 1/2. Our guide’s name was Julio. He was intelligent, interesting and funny through out the entire tour. He led us to various stations inside and outside to show us how sugar, coffee and chocolate is made. We thought it was so cool walking thru the plantation of sugar cane, coffee plants and cacao trees to get to our next educational/tasting area. Julio gave us plenty of samples thru out the tour to keep our interest. Besides getting to taste so many things, we learned so much interesting info about bananas, coffee beans, cacao and sugar. After the tour was done, you can continue sampling the coffee at the gift shop. You can relax inside or outside the restaurant for as long as you’d like. Well worth the price!Written 11 December 2024
- Nicole S0 contributionsFun, informative tour in MonteverdeWe did the coffee, chocolate and sugar cane tour with Don Juan and had a lovely experience! Kathy our tour guide was really sweet and very knowledgeable about all parts of the tour. We spent a good amount of time learning about each process and even getting to try our hands during some parts! We got to try the coffee, chocolate that we made, and fresh sugar cane! Thanks to Kathy for teaching us so much and giving us a better appreciation for the little pleasures like coffee, chocolate and sugar that we take for granted!Written 5 December 2024
- JenJac0 contributionsGood tourIf you are in Monteverde, definitely do the coffee tour. My family and I did the night tour. I think a day tour is better suited. The coffee tour was very good, but we didn't get to see a lot of nocturnal animals. Our guide Geronimo did the coffee tour very well. He explained the history of coffee & chocolate and at the end ground up cacoa beans and made a chocolate drink. I recommend the night tour in one of the rain forests, coz the guides have special lenses and you will have better luck spotting some nocturnal animals. As at all places in Costa Rica, the staff is knowledgeable and very friendly.Written 1 December 2024
- baileyb9760 contributionsCoffee, sugar, chocolate… why not?Our guide Carlos was awesome and taught us so many things about chocolate, coffee, and sugar cane we wouldn’t have known otherwise. Something we truly enjoyed was how interactive the tour was letting all be involved in different parts of the process!Written 29 November 2024
- katarinabC8572IF0 contributionsGreat toursOur tour at the sloth park was one of our favorite parts of our trip to Costa Rica. Sergio is a great tour guide who took his time with each animal we saw, and ensured everyone in the group got a chance to see it through his telescope. He also helped us take pictures and videos of the animals, and we were able to get some amazing shots. He was very informative and great at spotting things nobody else could see. We recommend not only doing the sloth tour, but the chocolate and coffee tour as well. We got to make our own coffee, taste lots of delicious chocolates, and learned a lot about the production processes for both. They were both very educational and fun tours, and one of the highlights of our trip.Written 19 November 2024
- pauljZ3271WN0 contributionsBest ZiplineIgnore other Ziplines. This is the best one. You “fly” for over a minute on each run. Views are amazing. Feel totally safeWritten 29 August 2024
- 119cynthiax0 contributionsSloth and chocolateWe did both 🦥 sloth watch and the coffee and chocolate tour. Well worth the time and money. Highly recommend. Both guides were very knowledgeable really trying to engage you into the discussion. It was a wonderful time.Written 24 August 2024
- 928betht0 contributionsJonny was great, coffee and chocolate too !Jonny was our guide for the chocolate, coffee and sugar cane tour. He was so personable and sat down with us and drank coffee with us and chocolate as well. It was a great tour, and we learned a lot as well. Don’t miss it.Written 27 July 2024
- avazy120 contributionsBest midday tourWe were visiting monte verde for four days and on our second day we did this tour in the middle of the day. We got there early to figure out parking, but that was not a problem. We first entered and got our ticket and then went into the main area. In the main area there was a variety of complimentary coffees, iced tea, water, and hot chocolate for before and after the tour. As soon as we got there our tour guide greeted us and introduced himself to us. Later we started our tour and it was just us and one other family. Our guide first took us to the sugarcane and showed us how the juice was made, he let us help him with making the juice and it was delicious. Next we went to the chocolate where he showed us how it was made and the history behind it. He then let us try a cocoa seed, chocolate nibs, and chocolate paste. We then learned about how coffee was made and when coffee season was, he showed us how they roasted the coffee beans and how they distributed it. Lastly, we went back to the souvenir shop and our guide answered any questions we had. TIP: our tour guide was Joksan; he was fantastic, friendly, and he allowed us to have a hands-on experience.Written 24 July 2024
- andsayhello0 contributionsGive Mario a raiseI visited here during a stop in Monteverde and it was my favorite experience in Costa Rica. We got to sample chocolate and sugar cane and see the whole process, which was more interesting than I would have thought. The tour though was absolutely made by Mario. He was personable and hilarious, kept us laughing and made the whole morning a lot of fun.Written 16 July 2024
- V8668DQvictorm0 contributionsGreat Time and Experience!Had an amazing time doing the tubing down the Arenal river! The three guides were excellent and very attentive. The length of the tubing was at the right length and challenge level for two 60 year olds.Written 10 July 2024
