About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Manuel S0 contributionsAttentione!I wanted to book a tour for the following day and contacted the tour provider via WhatsApp. I did this to check if a tour was available on short notice. The provider asked how many people would be joining, and I responded that we were two people. He then mentioned that a tour was possible for the two of us and asked which hotel we were staying at. I asked about the cost per person and provided the hotel name. He replied that the tour would cost $97 per person. However, I found the same tour on Tripadvisor for €77, which is approximately $80. I asked him why the tour was cheaper on Tripadvisor, and he mentioned something about taxes and last year’s prices. I then asked if I could book the tour for the next day through Tripadvisor since it was cheaper, and he said yes. So, I booked the tour on Tripadvisor for €77 with included taxes, and the booking was confirmed in the app. Shortly after, the tour provider messaged me on WhatsApp, saying that the tour for the next day was no longer available and had been filled with other people. This makes me feel that if we had booked the tour via WhatsApp for $97, we would have been able to go on the tour. However, because we booked through Tripadvisor at the lower price, the confirmed tour was canceled by the provider. I find this behavior absolutely outrageous and completely unacceptable. This tour provider is dishonest and untrustworthy. I strongly advise against using their services under any circumstances.Written 7 January 2025
- chicanainternational0 contributionsAmazing Tour of the Hanging BridgesI had a great tour on Saturday. I chose to go in the afternoon because there’s typically way less tourist traffic at that time. You won’t get to see as much wildlife as you do in the morning but it’s a fair trade off if you want a more intimate experience with the rainforest and hanging bridges. It was only me and another solo female traveler so it was almost a private tour. The tour guide took his time and was very knowledgeable of the forest and wildlife. He even spotted a couple of eyelash vipers, birds, peccary boars, and monkeys. We got lucky! He took awesome photos with a much better high definition camera and shared them us in the end. He was very down to earth and accommodating. I highly recommend this tour!Written 23 December 2024
- Erin V0 contributionsMarvelous Mendez FamilyWe had a fantastic time getting to know the Mendez family and the dinner was phenomenal! Traditional wood-fire casado. Delicious. The gardens are gorgeous and would have also loved to see them during the day. Would do this tour again!Written 13 December 2024
- 768clays0 contributionsGreat experienceWe had a wonderful time! Had our own private tour with me and my wife. My wife had never done caving before, and she loved it. The tour was about 1.5-2 hrs, transportation provided was seamless, and the experience was great. You are walking through a river up to about your ankles or shins for the majority. There were some tight spaces but most were voluntary, and it made it more thrilling. We had a great time.Written 10 December 2024
- hunter11940 contributionsBreathtaking waterfallAbsolutely beautiful waterfall and well worth the steps it took to go down and back up again! Due to the amount of rain in the area the past few days we weren’t allowed to swim at the waterfall but it was still a breathtaking sight. Thanks Diego for leading our hike and sharing information about the falls. The lunch afterwards was really good as well. Highly recommend this tour!Written 5 December 2024
- hunter11940 contributionsGreat way to spend a morningWe thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the hanging bridges. Our tour guide Diego was friendly and very knowledgeable about the plants and animals on the tour. We were lucky enough to see howler and spider monkeys plus some beautiful birds. It was a wonderful way to spend a morning. Thanks Diego and EcoTerra!Written 5 December 2024
- emilylH5733ZS0 contributionsFun hike we enjoyedEddy was great! Really enjoyable and educational even in the rain. We liked seeing monkeys, snakes, tarantula and we conquered our fear of heights. Not too scary for those who might be nervous.Written 30 November 2024
- 145juliannec0 contributionsAwesome tour, but kind of physically demandingWe loved this tour! The guide was super knowledgeable and was willing to answer all of our many questions. He knew loads about the actual cave, but was also able to answer our questions about the local volcano, hiking in Costa Rica, the wildlife, etc. It was about a 40 minute drive from the start point to the cave, but the guide kept us entertained with lively chatting the whole way. This cave is not like the curated ones that you might encounter in the US and this tour is not for the faint of heart. Because we were such a small group (just myself and my husband), the guides took us on a slightly more strenuous tour than is normally done. They had us crawling through passages that were elbow/thigh deep in water, climbing rock formations in the cave, and squeezing through narrow passages. If you are claustrophobic, afraid of getting dirty (you will be walking through water and bat guano) or afraid of bats, I would not recommend this. If you are open to some adventure, though, this would be a great addition to your trip! This tour was one of the highlights of ours! Definitely bring spare clothes because you will need to shower afterwards at individual bathrooms in the facility near the caves due to the bacteria in the bat guano. Afterwards, you’ll enjoy delicious fresh fruit and cookies. As a whole, an awesome tour and a great way to spend a morning!Written 20 November 2024
- kylegB4793LC0 contributionsGreat experience and great staff! I would choose them every time!We did the following: - Night tour - Hanging bridges (Part of all day tour) - Waterfall (Part of all day tour) - Volcano hike (Part of all day tour) The staff (Jasmin, Daniella, Diego, and Freddy) was amazing. They were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They were very willing to provide the best possible experience for us and we could tell they enjoyed having us and also enjoyed their work. We are very happy that we chose Ecoterra and would recommend them if anyone on this site is unsure of who to go with. Example of their great service: My wife forgot her water bottle on the shuttle after the excursions. They drove it to our resort within 30 minutes of us calling about it. Very impressed!Written 14 November 2024

- Discover1580970 contributionsUnique experienceThis was a very interesting experience and unlike any other we’ve had. Everything was great- from the driver, to the food, to the walking tour. Our guide, Harvin, was like an encyclopedia of all the plants, frogs, lizards and insects we saw. He was skilled at finding them and even helped us take some amazing photos and videos. Definitely worth it.Written 7 November 2024
- sabinem6220 contributionsMaleku-!Worth the visit !!We were 12 women, family & friends. After the hot springs, restaurants and Arenal. We decided to spend a day at the Maleku Village. We got a history lesson on their culture, community values and a chance to purchase their beautiful art pieces. Great time & informative. Negotiate the prices, they do bargain. … a lot of what they have you can buy cheaper in town but we didn’t mind paying extra to support the indigenous villagers.Written 6 November 2024
- Fearless181304667350 contributionsThe absolute BEST experience! My two friends and I were visiting Costa Rica for the first time on a girls trip, and this experience was by far one of the BEST things we could have signed up for! We saw so many species of frogs, a sloth, iguanas, and so much more! They make you feel so at home and served the most amazing meal at the end. I would 100% recommend to anyone visiting Costa Rica!!Written 2 November 2024

JazmĂn is an incredible guide who speaks perfect English and is very knowledgeable. She made this tour very special. I was the only person, so it was an amazing private tour. JazmĂn had been my guide on the La Fortuna waterfall hike as well, and I was very fortunate to have her as a guide a second time. She was very attentive, taking breaks when needed, and never making me feel rushed. This allowed me sufficient time to enjoy the amazing blue river water and spectacular views. We had excellent weather and were able to see Tenorio volcano. This was a perfect day, capped off with an excellent lunch. Thanks also to Marvin, our excellent driver.

Diego was an exceptional guide! He was very informative, a good listener and accommodated the pace of the mixed ability group. The driver was also a professional at navigating the sometimes narrow, mountainous, steep roads. I felt safe. La Fortuna was quite rainy but we were fortunate to get some sunshine and Rio Celeste was blue!

We visited here as part of a day tour and had a guided hike. We did not see any exciting large wildlife, but did see where Tapirs had barreled through the brush. We got to see some cool insects, a couple of short nosed green vine snakes and variety of the less spectacular birds. The star of the show was the waterfall where we got our Christmas Card shot! It takes at least minimal mobility as the drop to the viewing platform is 253 steps down and then 253 steps back up. The view was more than worth it. We had a very considerate guide that also educated us in the flora that we were walking through and patiently answered all our questions.

Tour was great, Johnny was a great driver (prompt, friendly, and very courteous) and Oscar was very knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. Overall a fantastic half day with a wonderful lunch at the end. An extra thanks is warranted as they were out on December 24th with us instead of at home with their families, and they deserve more praise than I can give here. feliz navidad!

We just had one of the best excursions ever! Jasmin and her driver were absolutely amazing and showed us how beautiful Costa Rica is and the many wonderful things that it has to offer. My daughter and I had one of the best days of our lives and I cannot say enough about how informative and passionate Jamsin is and how wonderful of a job that she does. She makes you very comfortable and at ease while patient answering questions to guide your day. I would ABSOLUTELY recommend this adventure 100%!

The hike through the park was beautiful. Our guide Daniella was outstanding describing everything about the park in great detail. The hike to the bottom of the Rio Celeste waterfall was a great experience and the walk back up was to a good workout, enough to make me grateful that I quit smoking years ago. The natural beauty of the park, including the colors of the river showed nature at its best. Even the restaurant where we dined after our hike was right on point. The food was delicious. Oh and Mario was a great driver.

We enjoyed the hike along the blue river, it was really beautiful and we saw some wildlife along the way. It was amazing when we reached the end of the hike to see the source of the volcanic particles flowing into the river from underground. There was also a beautiful waterfall. I would give this a higher rating if we didn't receive spam and junk mail from them 3-4 times a day, and we can't seem to block it. I've emailed the company but the spam continues.

Everything from pick up to drop off was great. David was our tour guide. We spotted toucans on the way. We were the only people, so we had a private tour, which was nice.

We hired this tour outfitter for a trip to Tenorio National Park and the Celeste River hike, a two-hour trip from Fortuna and our hotel. Our guide was knowledgeable and explained the chemical reaction that occurs when the two rivers meet with different
pH's and minerals. He pointed out several birds to us, and explained the history of this area, the volcano, etc. His english was very good, and seemed to enjoy his job as a guide. He allowed us plenty of time to take pictures at the waterfalls, the
spot where volcanic gasses were bubbling up in the River, and at the end of the trail where the two rivers met and the chemical reaction turns the water into the most unreal shade of blue you've ever seen in water.
Also, EcoTerra offered us the use of walking sticks for free. Please use them! Several within our group declined, and regretted it later.
Afterwards, we were taken to a nice little diner for our lunch (provided in your fees). The resaurant baited the area with hanging banana bunches, which attracted a variety of toucans and white-headed capuchins.
Their vehicle was comfortable and equipped with A/C and wifi. No problems at all with this outfit and guide service.
