Meet your guide outside Sofia University and make a quick detour to see the Monument to the Soviet Army before heading to the Museum of Socialist Art. Hear about the monument’s controversial past and headline-grabbing art projects from your guide, then hop aboard a public bus for the short ride to the museum.
On arrival at the museum, your visit begins with a short film about Bulgaria’s communist past, after which you’ll follow your guide around the numerous exhibitions. Along the way, see paintings, statues and busts of communist leaders such as Georgi Dimitrov, Dimitar Blagoev, Vasil Kolarov, Todor Zhivkov and Vladimir Lenin, and learn more about their significance from your guide. Don’t miss a peek at the gigantic Red Star in the museum gardens – the icon that once stood atop the Party house in the center of Sofia.
After exploring the museum, return to the city with your guide, where your tour ends back at Sofia University.
