    Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Horseback Mexico, Calle Murguia 403 Centro Historico between Avenida Juarez and Pino Suarez, Oaxaca 68000 Mexico

Your tour begins with pickup in the historic center of Oaxaca City, usually at 8:30am but other times can be requested. You'll start a 30-minute drive to the owner's Rancho Pitaya where the ride begins.

Toilets are available at the ranch, so you can use them before the tour begins. Receive helmets and half chaps plus a short demo of basic safe riding tips given before departing on horseback. Stirrups are adjusted to the right length and girth is tightened and then your guide leads you from the ranch directly into the protected communal lands and traditional farmlands. Virtually no vehicle traffic so you'll enjoy the path for just you and your group.

Ride through exotic forests rich in native cacti, agaves and massive elephant-foot yucca trees. Enjoy sweeping vistas in all directions.

The ride is approximately 2 hours and you won't go faster that what the least experienced rider can safely do. If you are a truly experienced rider and would like to spend some of the ride doing a rising trot and canter please request this at the time of booking and every effort will be made to meet this wish. Depending on experience and the group, the ride can be a little shorter for faster paced rides.

The guide usually takes photos of the riders on trail and can email them afterwards. After the ride, snacks and refreshments are served on the porch of the ranch constructed from traditional adobe brickwork. You will arrive back at the office in Oaxaca City approximately 4 hours after pickup.

We were a group of four ranging in age from 15 to 86, and from never-ridden-before to haven't-ridden-in-decades. But we all thoroughly enjoyed our half-day walk on Mary Jane's well-trained horses along paths that wound through the cacti and agaves that cover the hillsides near...More

Oaxaca has some of the greatest biodiversity in the world. Spending time in its natural flora adds another layer of wonder to our appreciation of this fascinating state.

We would give this horse riding trip an average rating. The owner of the horses is a very straight talking Canadian lady who carefully analyses your horse riding skills and comments on your riding ability throughout which we found quite rude. She was very cautious...More

Our horses´ welfare comes first! Your husband explained to to me that he has very limited riding. If we trotted he would have bounced on the horses back as he does not know how to post the trot. This can cause the horses to have...More

Our two teenage grandsons had never sat on a horse before and within 10 minutes were out on the trail feeling like caballeros! We had a great 2-hour ride with Mary Jane leading the way. You'll see the landscape from an entirely different perspective on...More

I so agree, nature seen from the back of a horse is indeed special. I'm especially happy to hear that your grandsons had a positive experience. Keeping healthy, well-fed horses is not cheap but worth the money. Thank you once again.

Even though I was the only person who signed up for the group ride, Mary Jane was kind enough to take me out alone. Horseback Mexico is anything BUT a boring slog on a tired trail horse who can't wait to get home. The ranch...More

Well, I look forward to you returning for a longer ride! It was a pleasure spending the day with you exploring on horseback. After 13 years of taking people riding, I can figure out pretty quickly good horse and rider matches. Thanks again for coming...More

Surprised to see so many positive reviews here! First off, it’s certainly the case that the ranch is beautiful, equipment is great and the horses are well looked after and trained. However the instructor was very unpleasant to me and I had no fun at...More

Hmmm, all the guides are really perplexed by your experience. When riding a 400 kilo animal with a mind of its own ( as opposed to a bicycle or motorbike ) it is indeed important to follow instructions. That's why we spend the time to...More
