- 305sashaj0 contributionsHighly recommend!Had a fantastic experience with these guys, we were lucky enough to spot some dugongs on our trip as well as humpback and bottle neck dolphins. We went swimming at the beautiful Pelican Sandy Bay, and the team was wonderful. Highly recommend booking a tour with these guys!Written 2 December 2024

- 29sandieb0 contributionsMum & Son Day Out - MagicalOn Sunday, I hopped in the car at 4:30am to drive 3hrs with my 3.5 year old son to Hervey Bay to take this tour with Blue Dolphin. To say we had a great time is an understatement. We boarded the vessel and my son was the only young child on board, he is very outgoing and adventurous so he made friends almost instantly with some lovely backpackers and anyone else who would listen. We spotted several dolphins and one even popped up right in front of us which was amazing. We also had the pleasure of spotting a dugong right alongside their dolphin friend (super cute). The best part was Pelican Beach and jumping off the boat and swimming in the crystal clear waters, absolutely immersed in the moment and sharing such a special time with my son. The food was great, Cassie was informative, friendly, and accommodating (even helping me get back onto the boat by holding my son’s hand as she helped him up the stairs). Captain Anika (who was friendly, professional, and engaging) was an absolute delight also. The passion and care they both have for their environment is not overshadowed by the wonderful and exciting day out they provide. On the return leg my son had a nap under his towel on top of the catamaran which was just as special as any other moment we shared on board as he was clearly relaxed (exhausted from all of the fun) and comfortable. We will be back again and I highly recommend anyone visiting, or a local, to enjoy a day out with friends, family, or even alone, and treat yourself to some genuine time out. Thanks again, Sandie & Theodore xWritten 12 November 2024
- 786susang0 contributionsWonderful sunset cruise with the best crewWhile the conditions were a bit windy the captain and crew took every avenue to make this sunset sail as safe and enjoyable as humanly possible. Very extensive knowledge of the area and very warm and friendly. They exceeded all our expectations.Written 10 November 2024
- P5337AWleab0 contributionsFabulous day with a fabulous crew!Peter and the crew are fantastic. The catamaran is the perfect calm way to see wildlife and Peter's approach is not to rush the animals but seek them out and let them come to the boat - which they did! Peter clearly knows the area extremely well and his commentary throughout the cruise was very informative. Morning tea was delish and the swim at a sand island was just wonderful.Written 1 November 2024
- emh001440 contributionsRelaxing sail around the bayWe had friends visiting. They had not been to Hervey before. What better way to show them the area than by doing a sunset champagne sail. It was locely. Its very good value, a small group, endless nibblies and drinks. The crew are lovely, friendly and professional. What makes this experience special is that its so relaxing because there is no on going commentary, just peaceful sailing to watch the sunset.Written 29 October 2024
- jolde140 contributionsAmazing, relaxing, most enjoyableAmazing, this was my second enjoyable experience doing the champagne sunset cruise with the warm hospitable staff on Blue Dolphin cruises, and it won’t be my last , a must for all visitors to the bay, thank you very very much , kindest regards Jo 🥰Written 28 October 2024

- Eva D0 contributionsWhat a show.!A glorious day on the water following 5 different whale pods. Not the calmest waters. But truly worth doing. The whales put on quite a show. Perfectly impressed.Written 8 October 2024
- timhZ1226KC0 contributionsSo many whalesPeter is very good at finding whales. He showed us 4 or 5 active pods close up. We had a great day. We saw calves jumping out of the water and adults fin slapping. We also followed one chase pod doing about 10 knots through the water.Written 14 September 2024
- Summonth0 contributionsBest whale watching experiences by farWe have been going on this tour for about 8 or 9 years. We would not go on any other vessel because we have never had a bad experience. I know you are dealing with wild animals and you are not supposed to always expect top notch experiences because they are wild animals but we have never missed out. We love how invested and excited Peter and his crew get with every encounter. This year I honestly think they were just as thrilled with our day out as the people on the boat. Their passion shows. And that passion makes them exceptional hosts. All I can say is do it. You won’t be disappointed.Written 22 August 2024

We had an amazing Day at Sea, there were so many whales throughout the day. Lloyd our skipper was extremely knowledgeable and I learned a Lot about the whales and their behaviours. I found it really educational. Jen and Cassea were amazing hosts and there was so much food and drinks being served all day. Thanks girls for a great day. At this time of the year there are a lot of mother whales with their calves. And we were lucky to have two mother's and two calves exploring (they call it mugging) the boat. For the best part of half an hour so it was cool to have such a close encounter. We also saw lots of breaching, tail slapping and pec slapping as the mum's showed their baby's how it was done! The crew also ensure the boat is spotless and covid safe and the boat was not overcrowded. You can really tell this company values quality over quantity. They also were extremely eco conscious and respectful of the whales. And made sure not to disturb or interupt them doing their thing. And our skipper really went above and beyond to find as many whales as he possible could. And we also saw some dolphins and a couple of turtles mating which was a bonus. Great day out at Sea I highly recommend this tour if you want a really sensational experience!
Thanks Pete, Lloyd, Jen and Cassea for the trip of a lifetime

Thank you so much Audrey for your detailed review. We were very kindly supported by Lloyd from Tasman Venture who drove his boat while ours was out of action with an engine problem. We didn't want our guests to miss out and all other boats were full so chartering a boat was the next option. So glad to hear you had a fabulous day.
Many thanks

I have so many positive things to say I don't know where to start. Crew/skipper- awesome, knowledge-awesome, experience-awesome. Firstly if you have not gone whale watching yet/ before then go. Secondly definitely go with Blue Dolphin. The boat is not too big so you only have a small number on board allowing everyone to see the whales without anyone getting in the way. The fact that is is a sail cat you are so much closer to the water so therefore closer to the whales. When we find the whales Peter cuts the engines so they spent what would have been nearly two hours just going around and under the boat, you can even get down to the actual water so are only about 1m from them. WE will be doing this trip for years to come and can not recommend Blue Dolphin highly enough. Book now so you don't miss out. Will post some photos soon.

Thankyou for your wonderful review. We love the fact that we are a small vessel with limited number of guests as it makes for a completely different experience with the whales. We also love people who become whale obsessed like us. Look forward to seeing you again.

It's easy to see how this small company have earned so many 5 star reviews. Peter and his staff were exceptionally personable, professional and clearly had a wealth of experience in the industry that translated to a very successful and enjoyable day. Low passenger numbers were the main draw card for us. The food was amazing and plentiful! As a vegetarian I felt very well catered for.
We got exceedingly lucky with some amazing close encounters with humpback whales. They seemed more interested in our smaller boat compared to some of the larger vessels and hung around for hours. At one point there were so many whales swimming around the boat, it was hard to know where to look! We thoroughly enjoyed our whale watching experience and would highly recommend Blue Dolphin.

Thank you so much for your lovely review. It makes for a much more enjoyable whale encounter when you have less people on board and do not have to jostle for a position to see the whales. So glad you enjoyed the vegetarian options as the crew put a lot of effort into ensuring that everyone is catered for. We appreciate your recommendation as this is what helps to keep a small family operation running, so thank you.

This was our 3rd tour with Peter and his crew.
The first 2 hours have been a bit rough but then the sea calmed down and we started looking for whales. They didn't make a big show this time, no breaching, not much tail wagging.
We finally saw a whale in the distance, Peter turned the boat motor off, and the whale, it was a young male, came closer and closer, doing rounds around the boat and after about 10 minutes was brave enough to lift his head up out of the water several times for closer inspection. For me to watch this was a wonderful experience.
We also watched several pods of 3 or 4 whales playing with each other not far away from the boat, totally ignoring the boat, they were snorting and grunting with each other - they were happy whales - so lovely to see.
Another terrific tour, thank you Peter, your experience and the care for the animals and your customers is second to none!

Thank you Lillian for your continued support of Blue Dolphin. Of course the whales are happy as they are on holiday in beautiful Hervey Bay right next to world heritage listed Fraser Island. Hope to see you again for some more whale antics.
Many thanks for your kind review.

It was the first time my friend and I had gone whale watching and decided on this tour as we liked that it was a full day trip with food included. We both absolutely loved it, even if the weather wasn't perfect, we even got a few rainbows as an added bonus on top of seeing plenty of whales in between the coastal showers throughout the day. The lunch was great food and nice that it includes a complimentary alcoholic drink. Will hopefully do this same trip again next year.

This was our 3rd time out on Blue Dolphin 2017, 2018 and 2020. Each time we have had an amazing experience. We have never been disappointed with the whale activity we have been able to encounter. We have come home with great photos. We have recommended Blue Dolphin to our friends and know that one has booked and 3 more will likely be booking soon. Peter and his crews experience make all the difference. We will be back again next year.

Thank you Lyn and Alan, your support is very much appreciated. Hervey Bay is the ultimate destination for whale encounters and you can never tire of it. Thank you for your recommendations as that really helps a small family owned and operated business and we look forward to welcoming you Blue Dolphin again.

This was the most amazing day. I bought this as a 70th birthday present for my husband and he and I absolutely had the best day. Pete was just the perfect host and Cassie the best hostess. Pete is so knowledgeable about the whales and goes to no end to find them and to give you every opportunity to see as many as possible. His enthusiasm and joy in seeing whales is contagious. We had the fortune of having whales swim under and around the vessel for many hours. With only a small number of people on board no one is competing for a spot and being a smaller vessel you are only a short distance away from the water to get a close up view of the whales. There is plenty of time given to enjoy the majesty of these unique creatures. The weather was perfect, the water blue and the whales just awesome. The food was very generous all day, and the cold meat and salads for lunch just divine. Best value for money. So glad we chose Blue Dolphin to have our first encounter with whales.

Wow that's a birthday he will not forget! Small groups work really well for viewing whales as you are not jostling for a position to see them. Both Pete and Cassie are very passionate about the whales and its lovely when guests enjoy their passion too. Happy to hear that you enjoyed the food as well as Cassie works very hard taking care of guests. Thank you for choosing Blue Dolphin and for your lovely review and we hope to see you again.

I did a great deal of research on which tour to take and I was not disappointed by my choice. Why? Smaller boat, less people, there was room for everyone to sit out on deck to enjoy the sail out to the whales or you had the option to sit in the cabin which was huge on the catamaran. Great value, full day of sighting whales, food was plentiful, delicious and of course the educational talk from Peter. It was a great day out on the water and really to see these beautiful animals out in the water, is enough, yes it would be great to see the breaching and slapping, but just seeing them will take your breath away. I am so happy I chose to be on this boat and having Peter's experience made it even more special with how much we saw. Thanks to Cassie for taking care of us too.

Thank you so much for choosing Blue Dolphin. It really does make a difference with a small number of guests for viewing, space and being able to relax. Pete is so passionate about marine mammals and truly enjoys sharing his knowledge and seeing the whales everyday. Cassie is also very passionate and enthusiastic about the whales and she also looks after guests very well. So glad that you enjoyed your day on the water with us and seeing the beautiful Humpback whales. Hope to see you again one day.
Many thanks

The best part of the cruise was of course the plentiful whale watching. But also the knowledge of the Captain (Pete) in regard to whales in general. The talk out on the deck of the boat after we sailed out into the bay was excellent. The service from Cassie was absolutely fantastic. Preparing and delivering morning snacks and tea. A wonderful lunch of salads, cold cuts and roasted chicken. Beer and wine available if desired.
The day started out with early morning fog on the bay. As the sun rose into the morning sky the fog burned off and it turned into a perfect bluebird day. Warm but not hot and the seas were calm. Of course no one can guarantee the weather but our day was perfect.
Once the fog cleared we started seeing whales. Everywhere. In the morning it was just whales surfacing and moving about. Several females with calves. Later in the day the show really started with many whale breechings. We even watched a female whale hanging vertical in the water with her tail on the surface feeding her calf!
In short this was by far the best whale watching experience we have had. The Blue Dolphin Sailing cat is not a really big boat so it was a more personal experience. We loved it!

Thank you so much for choosing Blue Dolphin. Our size of vessel limited number of guests gives our tour that very personal feel. No noisy PA's or three deep at the railing trying to view whales. Our vessel design is brilliant for being able to get around and see the whales, even when inside you can see 360 degrees. For a intimate, informative and luxury day on the water to see the whales, you can not go past Blue Dolphin. Thank you again and hope to see you in the future
Many thanks

What a fabulous day we had. Such a great educational program and whales in about an hour out. This is the third year running my friend and I have been on this trip and it would be hard to pass it up for any other at any time. Small vessel and limited numbers make it easier to get round...plenty of lovely food to eat and drinks. We are locals and feel we have some great choices to make but this is our choice. Blue Dolphin all the time. We love the experience with Blue Dolphin, smaller numbers, comfort, and the healthy discussions that arise re whales and fact that when the animals do approach us, they are so close you feel like you can touch them last week on the 16th and came home so relaxed and happy. Thank you to Pete and crew for yet again an amazing day.We will be back next year I am sure of that. ~Pauline
