        Rottnest via the fast ferries
Excellent trip! Rottnest is awesome - a great destination for everyone. Plenty of quokkas to see. Stunning beaches and great facilities. And even with huge amounts of tourists everything was relaxed and we didn’t have wait for anything really. Big call-out to Terry who did our evening drop off to our hotel after the tour. We were super lucky getting a late transfer home which they don’t always run. Terry was also a tour guide in a previous life so we were able to get some awesome travel advice! He was very patient with our 400 questions!! Really enjoyed the trip. Great staff (Ben the island bus driver was also a gem, very friendly, patient and gave plenty of information), great food options, great beaches, great weather to name a few!

        Tour of Rottnest Island
We had the best guide/driver to teach us and drive us through the island. Glenn was very informative, witty and very pleasant. We recommend highly this tour and hopefully you will get to meet Glenn !

        Well arranged tour.
Well organised tour. Very comprehensive. The only negative was not visiting the lighthouse. I would have liked to seen it up close and possibly climbed it. We could only look from afar due to time constraints. I would suggest this is included in the future as we visited 437 different bays which all see the same after awhile.

Easy and professional. Our trip to the island and back was seamless. The need to remove battery from bike was a hassle.
Easy and professional. Our trip to the island and back was seamless. The need to remove battery from bike was a hassle. But they are unable to ensure no damage. Our bike as it was got quite knocked around with a lot of rental bikes leaning against it. I feel if you take your own bike it needs to be treated a bit better than the rentals. Apart from that both trips were fine.

Super tour of a beautiful island
The bayseeker tour includes the ferry to and from the island from Hillary's Boat Harbour. The ferry ride takes about 45 minutes each way and we were lucky enough to see whales on the way across and back. This tour gave us about 3 hours free time on the island, plus a 90 minutes bus tour. Glenn our driver was a mine of information about the island, local life and times and made us laugh out loud several times. A super tour of a beautiful island.

Great trip but check out start point
Check out a better way to start your journey than courtesy coach. Re confirmed 48 hrs B4 is a pain. Very long bus journey. Pick up in street nearby not at our hotel.Dont use Hillary's boat yard if like us you are 15 mins from Perth ferry terminals. Rest of trip was well worth it. Views. History. Guide. Quokkas. Even bumpy ferry ride. Loading those bikes was an art form. Signage on island is not plentiful so don't lose the map.

A good look at a beautiful island.
Rottnest Island is surprisingly large and the bus trip around the island showed off the beauty of the place and its many pretty beaches and clear, turquoise waters.

        Fabulous day
This was our first visit. I did a little bit of research and decided that the hop on/ hop off bus would be our best option It was very busy when we first got off the ferry, but after seeing some quokkas we soon got on a bus The buses were busy but so easy to use. We never waited long for one and we could do as we pleased What a beautiful place. The beaches were incredible especially Ricey beach. Stunning. It was a beautiful sunny day which helped. The ferry was a little bumpy on the outward journey, but smooth sailing back.

        Great ferry ride.
The ferry ride was great- around 45 minutes and the staff were really great. Drinks available to buy. Heaps of room in and outside of the ferry. Rottnest fast ferries are totally Australian owned which is great.

A day to remember on Rottnest Island.
Mini bus pickup from City to Hillary’s harbour. Excellent diesel train trip to Oliver Hill gun emplacements with full tour of the amazing wartime facility. Lunch supplied then bus trip around the island with full commentary on all the sights and history. Saw a rare Osprey with nest, dugite snakes sunning themselves, friendly lizards, whales and of course the little quokkas. These were common around the commercial area near the harbour!

A well organised and informative trip. The tour took us all over the beautiful island and made good use of the time. Glad we were on the tour as the weather was very windy which would of made cycling difficult

        Well Worth It!
What an absolutely amazing day we had. We were picked up in Perth near to our hotel and got to see the sights to Hillarys Boat Harbour. Had a lovely trip down Sunset Drive. Saw humpback whales on the way to Rottnest. We also purchased the island explorer hop on hop off bus with Rottnest Fast Ferries. A great price for all the inclusions we had.

Fantastic Service - emailed reception staff several times due to itinerary changes and not only were they extremely efficient they wished me a happy day every time even though I was being very needy. I have used Fast Ferries on numerous occasions and they have always been excellent.

Nothing better than good customer service - thank you Ashley and Grace.

We took the Fast Ferry from Hillarys and hired bikes near the end of November. We had a lovely day, which was beautiful. We booked on line, paying $120 each, two days in advance. For some reason, despite booking on line, we still needed to queue up to check in and get our actual tickets when we arrived. It’s unclear why the tickets can’t simply be issued electronically as part of the on-line booking process.

When we arrived, we were directed toward the bike section, where one of the staff identified our bikes, which had been tagged with our name. We then walked the bikes to the ferry, and handed them over to the staff who loaded the bikes on to the ferry. The loading process was very efficient. Again, it was unclear why we needed to pick up the bikes, only to hand them over for loading and why they couldn’t already have been loaded. Not that it was much hassle. It just seems like a lot of moving the bikes back and forth that could have been avoided with a slightly different logistical set up.

The sailing over to the island was lovely. After arriving, we circled the island on our bikes in a somewhat counter clockwise route. It was somewhat windy and the island is a bit hilly. The bikes’ gearing is okay, but not the same as a typical 10- or 15-speed bike, especially at the low gear end. We saw numerous people walking their bikes up steep hills because there wasn’t a low enough gear for them to ride. Overall, the bikes were in good condition and we had no mechanical problems.

Also, it would have been a great option for the bike hire company to offer eBikes. That would allow groups of people of different fitness/cycling ability to all enjoy the island equally, without having to worry about the slowest person keeping up.

We enjoyed stopping by at the various beaches, the two lighthouses, and the far west end of the island (Cape Vlamingh). And, of course, we loved seeing the Quokkas. We had lunch at a restaurant in the Settlement and then boarded the ferry back. Disembarkation and returning our bikes was quick and easy, and we had no problem with the credit card security for the bikes.

The bikes were ready for us on arrival which was great. The ferry trip to Rottnest was rough - I think because largely we were sitting on the bottom level & could feel every rise & fall. It was great to be able to start riding as soon as we got to the island - instead of having to wait & hire bikes there. We had perfect weather conditions & circumnavigated the coastal track all around the island. Enroute we came across various places with the resident Quokkas happy to let us come close. Exhausted at the end - but happy. Good variety of eateries at the Settlement & the General Store well stocked with great variety of everything. Made a point of travelling back on the upper deck which was enjoyable.

We visited Rottnest on 13th January and were asked to pay $50 for bike hire. As we didn’t have cash it was taken from our credit card. When we returned the bikes we were informed it would be automatically returned but it wasn’t. We have called and emailed multiple times however they have still failed to return the deposit or respond when promised.

Hello Kate, I'm sorry you have had this experience with your bank. The bike deposit taken from you was a bank pre - authorization only. Meaning the bank holds those funds for a number of days, in case the bike is not returned. If the bike was not returned we would then have the ability to charge your card for the $50. ( We did not do this) Your bank would have released the funds and amount held would have disappeared on your bank statement after a set number of days, meaning you wouldn't see a refund as no money was taken off your card. I hope this clarifies the situation If you would have any other quires please contact me at phil@rottnestfastferries.com.au with a contact number to call you on. I bought this package thinking it would be easier. The minibus picked us all up around our accommodations in Perth and took us to Hilary's harbour. It did all this far too early meaning we arrived almost an hour too early and had to waste time hanging around in the drizzle before anything was open, until we were allowed to collect the bikes and start boarding the boat. This was a crap start to the day.

I collected my bike and was told I had a brand new one, and they were interested to see how I found it. However, it weighed a ton and as it turned out was completely pointless and unnecessary as there is a free bus service all around Rottnest Island and there's no need to bother taking a bike over there. I paid an additional refundable deposit that I was told would be back in my card in one week at the most.

The ferry left late but we did move at speed to Rottnest. Disembarkation was chaos and everyone needed to collect their bikes from the same place at the same time. I quickly realised my bike was far too heavy (I cycle a lot and was convinced the tyres were flat so got them checked out, no - just a crap heavy bike!) Cycled a little way before ditching the bike and finding out about the hop on/hop off bus service instead. Used the bus to travel all around the island at ease.

The ferry ride back to Hilary's harbour was fine until someone pulled an emergency lever and the ferry had to slow down to find out what was wrong, there was nothing wrong and this delayed us all by about 30 mins. Returned the bike when we got back and found my minibus and was dropped off near my apartment.

A week later no sign of the refund, I got back to the UK at the end of Jan and still no refund. I emailed and was told there must be a mistake and my credit card company must be delaying it. Waited and waited and in the end decided I must have missed it. No - 30 days after the transaction they refunded the deposit, after sitting on it all that time.

Don't bother with the ferry and bike hire package, there's no need to travel from Hillary's harbour unless you're staying there, and don't waste your time and energy on a bike - it's totally unnecessary and I really wish someone had told me this!

Buckle up, this is a a long review . Family of 5 booked ferry + bike rentals. 5 minutes into riding bike along smooth paved path at a walking speed , one of the brake lines came loose and wrapped around front wheel and the wheel would no longer turn. Luckily we were close to the settlement when this occurred and not on an isolated stretch of trail. We took it to the island bike repair centre and were told they could not fix it, we spoke to the volunteer centre and they could not assist . We called the Fast ferry office and were on hold for over 20 minutes before giving up and deciding to get on with the day. Our group member with the broken bike ended up purchasing a hop-on hop -off bus ticket at additional cost and met the rest of us at various points on the island rather than spending the day as a family. We called the office again shortly after 1pm at which time we were told there is no staff member on the island to assist , that we should speak to the office staff when we get off the return ferry and that if we left the bike behind we could not get our bond reimbursed. The boat staff who assisted to load the broken bicycle on to the ferry assured us that the office staff would help us out. This was not the case. The woman at the ticket counter a) insinuated that we were lying and had not contacted the office b) refused to reimburse the cost of the bike rental (let alone the cost of the unforeseen bus fare) and c) assured us she was the most senior staff member present and there was no one to whom we could escalate the matter. All in all a very disappointing lack of resolution but I suppose we should be thankful no one was seriously injured.

Dear Wardellkate I was hoping to be able to connect with you prior to responding officially to your review. I am aware that there is also another review from someone in your party on Trip Advisor, so the response is similar to both reviews I have attempted to contact you on a number of occasions without success. I understand that there was an issue with one of the 5 bikes that your hired from us, which wasn't discovered until you were riding on the island for a few hours. You were in fact riding bikes from our new fleet of 200 cycles. It appears that the front brake cable was the issue, and a slight adjustment was required to fix the problem. We are disappointed that this happened to you, and understand how it may have impacted you overall enjoyment on the Island. As stated I have tried calling via the phone number that was left and email to discuss compensation. Booked the ferry + bike rental, was given a bike that was unrideable and unfixably broken. No staff available on the island to help and nobody picking up the phone at the head office.

Was told the employees at the office could help but they offered nothing and refused to refund the cost of the rental for the broken bike I could not use.

Rottnest island was beautiful but stay away from Rottnest Fast Ferry they will waste your time and money.

I had the displeasure of using Rottnest Fast Ferries this past weekend. I phoned to ask a few questions before I booked and was on hold for over 40 minutes so I hung up and drive to their office in Hillary’s. I asked if they did the hire equipment such as seat and cargo trailers for children. I was told no I would have to get them on the island. I could hire the bikes from them and have the rest attached on the island at pedal and flipper.
I proceeded to book my three bikes and ferry online. On arrival at pedal and flipper on the island I was informed that they were not able to attach their equipment to Rottnest Fast Ferry bikes. The manager at Pedal and Flipper, who was lovely, got them on the phone to see if there was anything they could do as we were now on the island with a baby and three bikes. Obviously we could not carry the baby on our arms while cycling around!!!! The manager said that the staff member at Rottnest Fast Ferry that she spoke to was incredibly rude to her but that they would speak to their supervisor and get back to me.

When they called my phone the woman said that clearly I had misheard what I was told and the supervisor would never had said that their bikes could be used to attach the baby trailer or seat.
After much discussion, a screaming baby and three very cranky adults they finally said that they would refund all three of the bikes as the day was ruined but that we would have by to pay for a new bike and trailer on the island costing $50.

Now I have just had to call them again as I was only refunded for one bike. The woman on the phone said that no the supervisor would never have said that they would refund three bikes and I was clearly wrong again. So either I’m completely deaf and stupid or they are absolutely useless! I know what I heard. They were not pleasant to deal with in person or on the phone. Not only was our day ruined but I’m out of pocket for the day.
Do not use them or expect any help from them if you do make the mistake of using them.

The worst experience. My luggage was not taken to Perth from Rottnest. Next day they said it arrived and asked $20 for delivery to my place as i was working. They refused to take responsibility for the lost luggage, though i paid additional fee at their office at the time of check in for luggage tags.

      Rude and zero customer service

Hello F2018U The delay in writing back to you on this review, is due to the fact that the Managing Director of Rottnest Fast Ferries had been trying to get in contact with you to explain the course of events that led to your luggage not being transported on your return ferry to the mainland. However, you have refused to accept his explanation. Your review is not only unfair but it is misleading and untrue in the majority. The fact is that Rottnest Fast Ferries was responsible for taking your checked luggage to the island, which was loaded into a secure crate and then handed over to Rottnest Island accommodation delivery team to deliver to your allocated accommodation - Unit 715. On checking into your accommodation at the Rottnest Island Visitor Centre, the accommodation provider, explained to you that on the morning of departure you would need to leave your luggage outside your door by 8am for collection by the Rottnest Island luggage collection team and they would collect and load your luggage into a secure crate and deliver to the ferry for transportation to the mainland. You would have also received the time that luggage needed to be ready for collection on your accommodation booking confirmation from RottnestIsland.com. There was also a magnet on the fridge in the bungalow you were staying in stating the same collection time. You failed to leave your luggage outside your accommodation at the allocated time and as a result the collection team had no luggage to collect. This is not an uncommon situation for them to encounter as often customers extend their stay at an alternative accommodation provider on the island or take their own luggage down to the ferries. On returning to Hillarys Boat Harbour, you and your travel companion reported your luggage missing to our reservations supervisor, who compiled a Rottnest Island Luggage Irregularity form, with the detail of the missing items and emailed it to the luggage collection company on the island. Your luggage was loaded into a crate the next morning and delivered to the ferry to be transported back to Hillarys, on arrival both you and your travel companion were contacted to advise your luggage had arrived for collection. You were both informed that the luggage collection company confirmed the luggage was not out at the required time for collection which was acknowledged by you or your travel companion that you had in fact left your luggage out after 9am on your departure date. It was also explained to you that the accommodation provider told you on check in the collection procedure and times, which your travel companion said "that sounds familiar". The staff that served you at Rottnest Fast Ferries were empathetic and committed to assisting you locate your missing luggage and were polite in explaining to you the circumstances that led to your bags not being returned on your departure day, as you continually verbally abused them. The team gave you options to collect your luggage which included storage, you said this was not possible so the office manager offered to arrange a courier to deliver your luggage at cost price, I was in the office on the day your were speaking to our team members including the office manager who kept explaining to you the options you had available to receive your luggage, you hung up the phone after yelling at our office manager to "throw away your luggage". You have stayed on message from the minute your luggage did not arrive back that it was the responsibility of Rottnest Fast Ferries to ensure your luggage was returned, which it was. The fact is you did not have your luggage available for anyone to collect. Sincerely Phil Richards - Director of Sales and Marketing

In my opinion Rottnest Island is a must see when in Perth. The little quakkas and beautiful beaches are stunning so having a full day here is a must. This tour offers the ferry (and pick up from Perth city) as well as a bike rental.
And while I loved the ferry and the island, I didn’t necessarily enjoy the biking as it was a very hot day. So if I’d go again I would pick to take the hop-on hop-off bus around the island and I would rather take my time on the beaches.

Hi jerneja98, Thank you for sharing your experience! We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed Rottnest Island's beautiful beaches and the adorable quokkas. We completely understand that the heat can make biking a challenge, the hop-on, hop-off bus is indeed a great option for those who want to take it easy and soak up the sights without the exertion of biking. We hope you’ll consider returning to the island for another wonderful day—perhaps with a little more time to relax on those stunning beaches! Thanks, from the team at Rottnest Fast Ferries.
