Halloween 2024 in Montreal! Griffintown is one of Montreal’s most historic neighbourhoods – and one of its most haunted. This part of the city has seen everything from Irish refugees during the famine of 1847 to the Industrial Revolution to Montreal’s worst air disaster. Today, condominium towers are popping up, but new residents are well aware that this area was once a noisy slum and ghosts are common! The Haunted Griffintown tour takes in mysterious ruins, a polluted canal, ancient cemeteries and spooky buildings that are said to be haunted. Led by a professional actor and storyteller, this tour will delight ghost hunters, history buffs and Halloween lovers alike with its spooky tales of the spirits and paranormal activity that animate Griffintown.

    Dark amusements
A great bit of gruesome fun and local history! A walking tour but our family member using a manual wheelchair was also able to participate the whole way and enjoy some spooky storytelling by our awesome guide Jason.

    Fun tour
Very fun tour. A small theatrical hike onto the mountain, perfect for Halloween. Jason was great at storytelling, keeping it creepy and light-hearted as well. Plus, you get to learn a bunch of historical facts as a bonus. Great tour and very interested in the others.

    A must for paranormal enthusiasts!
An informative historical account of early life in Ville-Marie. Dom, the paranormal investigator was great. An excellent opportunity to experiment with the equipment that ghost hunters use.

Highly recommend this is a super fun experience
We did the paranormal investigation at Dorchester Square with Dominique as our guide and it was such a fun experience. Dominique had a lot of interesting historical information to share and helped us connect with the ghosts. My mom who‘s a skeptic and only came because my sister couldn’t come, actually loved the experience and now believes. I highly recommend this experience if you’re ever in Montreal. Absolutely planning on doing it again.

    Amazing!!!
I’ve done almost all the haunted Montreal tours but this one was my favourite! The story telling is amazing and going up the mountain was like a workout but exciting because you are in the dark with a flashlight. It added to the spookiness! Whichever tour you do it will be fun! Plus you learn the history of Montreal. So if you love history and ghost stories this is for you! Definitely do this with some friends and family to make some great memories! Just fyi if you are doing any of the tours near the water in October wear a good coat because it can get quite cold especially with the wind and if doing the mountain tour in the summer bring bug repellent.

    Paranormal investigation and walking tour
If you are interested in the paranormal and would like to visit some haunted sites in Old Montreal, I would recommend this tour. Dominique is a terrific guide and he gave us a hybrid of a walking tour with some historic facts about haunted sites and also, we were able to use some equipment to detect spirits and hear ghosts that were trying to communicate with us. My wife and I had a very fun evening and it definitely sparked an even greater interesting in pursuing more ghost adventures.

    Great Montreal stories
Anton is a fantastic storyteller! Really nice tour. He spoke loudly and made sure everyone stayed together as a group. We laughed a lot and learned more about Montreal's history.

    Engaging and insightful
Donovan is an absolute authority on the history of Montreal. Our small group came away from our evening tour with many new insights about our adopted city.

    Entertaining, Informative, and Spooky!
Very entertaining and informative. Jason was a very good performer who balanced the spooky, the history, and a bit of cheesy humour. A fun way to look at the city I've lived in my whole life, and three pubs I only thought I knew.

    Would not recommend
I can see from other negative reviews that the tour operator then slates the reviewer so I’m expecting that to happen for this one too. Though a nice enough man, the tour content was too dense and delivered too fast and dramatically, so much so that it was hard to keep the thread of the stories. It would be improved by slowing down, creating a spookier atmosphere and cutting down on the content. It jumped around a lot and was too long. I went on a similar tour Montreal in 2018 with a man wearing the black hat and shirt just buttoned up (so either the same man, or the uniform of the same company) and I remember thinking the same thing - this tour feels like it’s more for the benefit of someone who wants to perform, rather than for the audience itself. It wasn’t great, didn’t feel closely linked to the pubs and the second pub’s prices were extortionate. Only hitting up three pubs for lengthy monologues didn’t seem like much of a “tour”. Opportunities for questions throughout, rather than long monologues, would be an improvement. Sorry to say that I would not recommend this in its current form as the price plus a tip is overstating the value a lot. And I generally do like to tip.

    Top notch storytelling and history
Having been on dozens of ghost tours across the world, I can safely say this one ranks among the best. Ghost tours are nearly entirely dependent on the storytelling skill and passion of the guide and Anton excels at both. He delivered a superb blend of history, horror, and humor while keeping everyone on track and safe from giant rats. Would highly recommend!

    Don't miss this!
Anton did a wonderful job of walking us through the ghost stories, and adding historical flavour to each location. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys history, or ghost stories, or simply drinking something tasty and listening to something interesting!

A wonderful walking tour of Griffintown, full of fun stories and serious history that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I loved the tarot card picking (6 of Wands!) and the thoughtful tales. I will definitely try other tours by this group.

At first, my boyfriend and I weren’t too sure what to expect from this tour in Griffintown. However, after observation of my photos, I realized quickly that this was not a hoax, but in fact real! The tour guide was also extremely insightful and full of enthusiasm. Below are progressive pictures of what may or may not be Mayor Mills who has been reported seen roaming around in that exact location. (Look below the white arrow for the shadow!)

Thank you for these amazing photos! There have been many sightings of the Ghost of John Easton Mills, Montreals's compassionate Mayor who died on November 14, 1847. He died of typhus, which he contracted while caring for Famine Irish refugees. He was deemed "MOntreal's Martyr Mayor" for his heroic efforts. Many people believe his ghost remains in a paranormal afterlife, still caring for his charges. It was covered on "World's Scariest Hauntings: Griffintown". I am excited about your authentic photos and really appreciate your kind words. You are absolutely correct - Haunted Montreal is not a hoax by any means. We do thorough research, interview witnesses and experts, and aim to provide a superior experience for our clients. We are very proud to pay union-based wages to our storytellers, and are happy to continue unearthing Montreal's dark and hidden past, including its most deranged ghosts! You can read about them on our blog on the 13th of every month, and can even sign up for a free inbox delivery! :o)
