      Comprehensive Tour
The success of hop on hop off tours is dependent on the quality of the guide and the information he provides. In our case the guide was knowledgeable, humorous and interesting. A very worthwhile experience.

      Intially Good and then Hopeless.
Initially for the first 4 stops commentary and views were excellent. We were lucky to be in Ottawa for the Tulip festival (amazingly beautiful) which was stop 4. After hopping back on a bus with a different driver and commentator to go to stop 13 what a difference. The driver revved the engine so you couldn't hear the commentary which was at times unintelligible and despite asking him to speak louder he just couldn't care less.Very disappointing. The driver drove right past stop 13 and finally after complaining stopped at a busy intersection at the red light for us to get off and walk back 1 mile. Pity you let yourself down with that.

Good way to get around - wish it was more “tour” than “taxi” like
Great way to see the highlights of the city without having to walk for hours or worry about driving and parking! I wish the tour guide gave some information about the locations rather than just pointing out the names of places and if it was on the left/right. Felt more like a ride between locations rather than a “tour” of the city Also not a big fan that there were little dogs allowed on - the barking took away from the overall experience.

We recently took a classic tour with Gray Line Ottawa. Gray Line has always come through with the best tours. This tour gives you a general overview of the city .

      Some good, some disappointing
We had to wait in the rain for the tour to start. An awning or some such would be nice. Also, during the tour, we could only hear about 10% of what the tour guide was saying, due to traffic noises and an inadequate microphone system. What we did hear, focused more on local restaurants than on Ottawa history and architecture. (Yes, we're over 65; but we both have normal hearing.) We're not sorry we took the tour, because we did enjoy seeing some things, even if they weren't explained. But we were disappointed and frustrated enough to get off the bus halfway thru.

      An excellent overview
The 90-minute Ottawa City Tour provided me with an excellent overview of the city and its environs. Ottawa is a jewel amid extensive parkland! The young guide was well-informed, timely, and courteous, and the driver, skillful. I only wish I'd had change on hand to thank them with a tip!

Great tour- Poor follow up on broken down bus experience
We live in Ottawa but our toddler LOVES this event! We have done the round trip tour a few times and it’s as exciting for everyone each time! We’ve learned so much about our own city! Unfortunately, last week we rode the tour with friends from out of town. In the first quarter of the tour, the engine overheated and we pulled over. We were told a mechanic would be 15 minutes, and if needed a new bus would come in 45! No problem, these things happen. Given that it was 38 degrees, we asked if we could walk to the next stop which was about 1 km away. By doing this we could grab a refill on water, use washroom, keep toddler out of the sun and pray the bus wouldn’t be long as many moms know a day with a 2 year old requires scheduling! We hauled to the next stop running at times in the event the mechanic fixed the bus, we didn’t want to miss. 40 minutes later a packed bus arrived at the next stop. Our previous bus couldn’t be fixed so the bus was full of the scheduled sold-out tour plus all the people from the broken bus. Still, no big deal these things happen! We sandwiched into the bottom level, windows were open, was so hot, holding toddler in arms and everyone wearing masks. The first stop we could get off as we went back toward downtown we go off. This meant another 25 minute walk to get our car and we had now missed nap. Still, no big deal! I called Greyline offices and explained the situation, the girl asked if I wanted to book for the next day or following day or wanted a refund. I explained our friends were leaving so they would likely want a refund but I would be happy with a credit. We love the tour but with a weekend of rain ahead and scheduled activities, I would be happy to take a credit that could be used later, or a refund if easier ( because I’d still be booking again, same difference). The girl took my information and said someone would call back within 24 hours. 2 days later I received an email to review the experience and wrote back explaining the issue and lack of response stating that we always had a good experience but believed the broken bus/ incomplete tour/ headache of the experience should be rectified with a complimentary invite to ride again. *Keep in mind the entire ordeal was 2 hours with 15 minutes of a bus ride. I think that is more than fair to request a complimentary ride. In fact, I’m happy to ride toward the end of the season when the busses are still running and empty. I don’t have to take a prime seat in tourist season* I never received a reply. I initiated the situation be rectified on 2 occasions and am disappointed with follow up. As for the experience in past times, we loved. We would be very happy to see this past situation handled appropriately in a timely manner.

      excellent
There were 5 of us in total - 3 adults and 2 kids (11 and 8). We all enjoyed the experience and participated in the conversation. My youngest didn't even fall asleep! The guide was so informative - and so funny - that kept our interest the entire time. It was an hour tour - I wish it was longer. We all learned so much (and because it was bilingual) my French immersion children got a little bit of a language sess. Will definitely do this tour again!

      Good city tour
We took the hop on hop off tour this past July. I have given it a 4 rating despite not finding all of the experience OK. But most of that was because this was our first hop on hop off experience. The sign in spot was right at the foot of the Sparks street pedestrian mall by the War Memorial. No problems checking in and the felllow gave us a guide for when the buses make their stops at the hop off spots or which there are about 12. You can do the tour as just a bus tour (ie/ you don't have to get off) and I think that takes a couple of hours. If you do this be aware that the photo opportunities are quite limited from a moving bus, even if you sit on the open top deck which we did. If you do the tour this way it does give you an excellent overview of the Ottawa/Gatineau sights. The tour is narrated in English and French and at times seems a bit rushed because there are many things to talk about. Having said all that we took advantage of a few of the hop off spots and this worked out very well. The whole thing was very well organized and the buses showed up for pick up bang on the times that showed on the schedule. Cost for the 2 of us was $75 total. Glad we did this and knowing what we do now we might have opted for the 2 day pass which you also get at discounted rate compared to the one day. That way we might have taken advantage of some of the other stops.

      Spread out tour
We had one and half circles on this. One to see everything and a part circle to get to the RCMP HQ. Our guide was Marcel and Driver was Pete. Enjoyed, good commentary – saw all the sites you would expect. Be aware, some of the outlying stops are some distance so be prepared for some long intervals between stops and some attractions are not always open everyday. Also, as the tour only ran every hour you couldn’t hop off at every site and be back on the bus to do every attraction in one day.

The tour through the city of Ottawa was very informative, great tour guide!
We visited many sites with great explanations. The down side was a bus driver who drove very rough through the city, suddenly breaking before the stops. When tour was finished bus driver left the bus before we exited without emergency breaks, so we rolled forward. Suddenly he jumped back on the bus, pulled the break and from that impact I fell on the stairs going down from the top, my husband hit his hand on the railing. Luckily we left with only minor injures. Before you hire drivers who drive 50+ people, please check their driving record!!!!!!

The tour was great: comprehensive and interesting locations. The problem is that due to Covid restrictions, we could not really hop on and off. Just about every site on the tour required a reservation and most were fully booked.

This of course has nothing to do with the tour itself, but it is important to reserve ahead if you want to benefit from visiting the actual sites.

Opted for the 90 minute tour which was in the same bus as the hop on hop off… only difference, you stayed on. Tour covers a large area as the museums et al are spread across a large area. I pre booked the tickets which was a good shout as the tour was busy and upstairs began filling up about 20 mins before departure. Tour guide was good, microphone worked. A great way to see the city quickly

First the good — the 90 minute tour was as good as most cities we’ve visited and our guide was engaging and shared interesting information.

Unfortunately we did not get what we paid for. The Grayline Site (see screenshot) and Expedia both say that they are operating on a 30 minute schedule from July-September, but in fact they are operating on a 60 minute schedule and in some cases we waited longer.

Our bus driver was driving too close to the car in front at some points so he would repeatedly step on the brakes making the bus lurch.

Aside from their starting point at Sparks street, the stops are very hard to find, the signage is on a stand that is about 4 feet tall, and faces only 1 direction. When we called from the Canadian War Museum to ask where to find the stop we were instructed to walk out the main entrance, across the small but not real road, and to wait by the stop sign. After waiting an hour when we called again we were told there are many main entrances (there are not…only one is marked Main Entrance) and that we should go to the other side of the building and wait at the nearest intersection. We took an Uber as we’d waited longer than an hour and were told the next bus would be there in 40 minutes.

If you just want the tour I would recommend buying the one day pass and taking the tour, but this service is not practical as a real hop on/hop off tour…missing one bus will eat a major portion of your day and it’s very hard to find their stop points.

What they could do better — update the website so people can decide in advance if they want to pay full price for half the service, and improve signage.

As a tour if you’re staying on the bus this is a good company to go with if you’re trying to hop on hop off forget about it because their timetable is completely inaccurate and unfortunately most activities in museums you have to have a timed ticket for. Also waiting 45 min a bus stop for a bus that’s supposed to run every half hour just wasted our day. We had three museums and we’re only on time to the first one the worst part about it was when we were in our second museum another bus from the company (not the double Decker but a trolly style) broke down right in front of us in a cloud of exhaust leaving entire group of people stranded. We were very surprised because we had done the Amphibus tour the day before the same company and had a wonderful time. But the two day hop on hop off was a huge waste of money that could’ve been better spent on an Lyft or Uber from Museum to Museum.b also the last us we tried to take back from our last museum stop of the day was so full the had sardine standing room only. The Amphibus tour this company offered is great but avoid the hop on hop off and stick to one seat for a great narrated ride.

The weather was unusually hot for this time of year, so this tour was a welcoming break from trudging from site to site in +31 weather. We got a great overview from the bus & stopped at Dow Lake to enjoy the Tulip Fest, then again at the National Art Gallery. Both of our commentators were excellent, adding humour with some interesting tidbits along our route. I’d recommend this tour. It was well worth it.

We live in Ottawa and play tourist with our grandchildren, this year we took our two granddaughters aged 10 and 12, (we have previously taken our grandsons when they were young). We had a great time, learned some interesting information and saw a lot of our beautiful city. The tour guide was friendly, helpful and supplied information in a knowledgeable and funny manner. The bus driver was very good, especially when he had to back out at Lansdowne Park because the road was blocked, we clapped in appreciation.
We would like to take the tour again with friends.

On a recent trip to the Canadian Tulip Festival, we booked Hop on Hop Off Ottawa for 2 consecutive days and used it as our primary source of transportation to various attractions. On the first day, the bus didn’t stop at the Canadian War Museum, citing construction as the reason for the unexplained change. The bus did stop at the War Museum the next day without difficulty and there was no evidence of construction to explain why we didn’t stop the first day. On the second day, we were let off at the Museum of Aviation and Space only to find the museum closed for the day. Thankfully, the bus remained on site and, upon seeing that we were shut out, quickly allowed us to re-embark. We felt the bus line should be aware of operating dates of the attractions to warn riders. The buses were clean, comfortable and well equipped. The drivers were competent and the guides were courteous and reasonably informative. I would recommend the Ottawa Hop On Hop Off Bus.

Great way to see Ottawa! Even my 18 year old daughter enjoyed it. I’ve been to Ottawa many times and was fascinated to hear more about the history and other interesting facts. Christine’s commentary and humour made the tour even more enjoyable ! We only “hopped off” at one location , but when we were ready to “hop on” , the bus came right on schedule at the location we were let off at. We had no concerns at all. People have reviewed about speed of drivers, stops and starts of bus etc but I found it’s just the flow of traffic in a big city - relax lol! I highly recommend this tour :)

Disappointing. The guide was great, but not a lot of “history” points given, example, the Revenue Canada building, I’m pretty sure it wasn’t built for that reason, would be nice to know what it was originally built for. Lord Elgin Hotel, so what did Lord Elgin do? Pushed a Mexican restaurant and a Bagel place! Not interested in that! As well as listening in English and then in French, which is fine, we listened to people on the bus talking the whole time , which made it very hard to hear the guide. Before the trip began there was confusion on which time and which bus we were to board. We were very disappointed and couldn’t wait for it to end. My advice? Try Toronto that was fantastic and full of history and points of interest that didn’t include a Mexican restaurant or Bagel shop!
