About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- L9478EIsusanp0 contributionsOff Season adventure, still funAs an older couple, we wanted to enjoy the vistas without a lot of physical exertion. The Iceberg Quest was an excellent option. The seating on the boat was comfortable, the staff were attentive to our needs. They made it clear that the season for viewing birds and marine mammals was past. Nevertheless, the ride out to Cape Spear and back was delightful. Our schedule that day was tight, so the boat crew called a taxi to the harbor to expedite our departure at the tour's end. The boat is in fine condition, very clean; the crew are enthusiastic and thoughtful. We had a wonderful time.Written 6 October 2024
- JackPaul510 contributionsDefinitely take this 🎼 "Excursion Around the Bay"! You won't regret it!Excellent tour. It was a short and convenient 5 minute walk from where our cruise ship docked. The crew was excellent and fun. We saw a lot of playful dolphins that followed the boat, a few puffins in the water, a few bald eagles, and unexpectedly for me, we saw some Mola Mola" or the 'Ocean Sunfish'. The Captain took us past the Cape Spear Lighthouse for a nice photo op of the old and new lighthouses and the easternmost land mass in North America. The tour concluded with a traditional Screech-In Ceremony for those that 'Come From Away' and wanted to become honorary Newfoundlanders. My wife and I highly recommend this tour while you visit beautiful St. John's. And no, I didn't '🎶 bury her in the ocean!' 😅 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Written 26 August 2024
- red12590 contributionsFantastic boat tour!Outstanding tour. Saw many many dolphins, eagles, and had a great time. Crew is friendly and warm. Even did a screech in at the end for those who wanted to take part. Highly recommend!Written 25 August 2024
- 906denism0 contributionsGreat memoriesWe took the tour as part of our 30th anniversary trip to Newfoundland. The Captain and crew were absolutely fantastic making sure we were looked after. The highlight of the voyage was the “screeching in” ceremony making us proud honorary Newfoundlanders.Written 23 August 2024
- seanmcrossan0 contributionsAmazing Iceberg Quest Boat ToursMy wife and I and another couple did the Iceberg Quest boat tour on August 22. It was a sunny day about 18 C but the NE winds were cool so we wore toques! The boat was about 40-50 feet long so we did not feel the waves like a small boat would. The staff and Captain Barry were professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable. At this time of year there were lot of sea birds and eagles but no whales and icebergs. We did not expect to see whales and icebergs but did enjoy viewing the coast line, Longisland Lighhouse, the hole in the wall, Spillars Cove and the Town of Twillingate from the water. I also got Screeched in and am now an honorary Newfoundlander! It was a great experience. I love Newfoundland and I will be back again soon!Written 23 August 2024
- BrianA2820 contributionsGreat crew, clean ship, amazing experience! The crew was first class all the way. Very friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Wish they had some more reasonably priced local beers but that’s the only quibble. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience!Written 22 August 2024
- Capicatalina0 contributionsSo awesome> This crew makes all the difference!I am traveling solo and thought why not jump on a boat and see some sights and listen to a local musician. Sounds nice. But this crew was SO FUN! this 2 hour cruise was so much more than what I anticipated. The singer Chris Meyers was great and the Newfoundland folk songs were'nt corny - they were a blast. They surprised me with a 'Screeched In' ceremony!! I will never not smile and shake my head at how much fun I had on this 2 hour little trip. Thanks guys!! :o)Written 2 August 2024
- theresagB9761ES0 contributionsTwillingate Iceberg Quest Whale watching TourIt was Amazing. I was hoping to a a whale, but it was more than I ever expected. I believe about 5 pairs. Captain gave us tips on where to watch and within minutes we could see them. Absolutely a must see!!!Written 27 July 2024
- 22Annie11220 contributionsNot worth itWe did the boat tour from Twillingate. There are no icebergs in July and there were supposedly very few overall in 2024. There were no whales. We learned that there are no puffins in Twillingate. The only birds we saw on the tour were seagulls! Commentary from staff was very limited, we didn’t learn much. Cliffs were impressive but you can see them well enough from the coast. So the boat tour was definitely not worth it.Written 3 July 2024
- donnac5240 contributionsWell worth it!This boat trip was a lot of fun. Even though we didn’t manage to see a whale on our particular cruise, it was great. No one can predict when or if you can see whales but we knew that going in. Nature isn’t there just for our Ientertainment afterall! But the crew onboard made sure everyone had the best time either way. I would definitely go again.Written 19 June 2024
- violinmama20160 contributionsGreat tourFriendly, entertaining, knowledgeable staff. Even though we didn’t see any whales or icebergs it was a wonderful, not to be missed experience.Written 17 June 2024
- coopdepoop0 contributionsSunshine and CoastlineGreat staff! Beautiful rugged shorelines around and near Twillingate , and a spectacular sunny day! Got “Screeched” in.. sadly Mother Nature kept her icebergs and whales to herself ..Written 16 June 2024
- garyrL2510HG0 contributionsVery disappointedA nice boat ride period! No icebergs at all. Staff offered no commentary of the situation which was poor. Didn’t make much of an effort to view icebergs which obviously were not in the area. Spent the entire time cruising the inlet shore line. If you want to see icebergs go to St Anthony NOT Twillingate. Nobody on our boat ride was satisfied with the excursion. We were offered zero info on anything we saw. You could ask a crew member I guess, but you would think an explanation of what you were looking at was part of the trip. Poor experience all around.Written 1 June 2024
- cecec3100 contributionsJust a boat rideThis was just an expensive boat ride (over $200 for 2 people). We didn’t see any icebergs, or whales. Honestly, we were able to see more spectacular views from the trail hikes we went on prior to the tour.Written 31 May 2024
- jtll20200 contributionsCold - But Who Cares! What a great ride in Twillingate! It was cold, windy and some jolting swells, but so worth it! Captain Barry Rogers was clear on the safety instructions and let us know all points of interest. No icebergs, no whales - but seeing the beautiful Newfoundland coast was enough. Crew was also outstanding, walking around talking to everyone. Gillian got the party started with a couple of songs on the Ugly Stick. Thank you Iceberg Quest!Written 31 May 2024

The crew and entertainment was great but it was a very foggy day and this excursion should have been cancelled by the operator. Passengers could not see anything because of the dense fog other than a few puffin near the end as we were returning to the harbour. To make it worse the ocean was very rough and probably half of the passengers were physically throwing up or very queasy. Disappointing to say the least and expected the experienced operator would have cancelled. At $120 per person to be on a two hour trip to see nothing (including land) and feel sick (not a fault of the captain or operator) was a big waste of time and ruin of the remaining part of the day due to seasickness.

Let me say that the staff was fantastic! My issue is that I booked my tour June 15th and the tour is titled "icebergs, whales and puffins". And obviously you cannot guarantee to see all three. But it was disappointing when I spoke to other tour companies and locals and they revealed it was unlikely to see icebergs and it's not yet whale season. Whale season begins in a couple weeks. We also didn't see puffins. So basically it was $100 a person to sail around the coast. Which I wouldn't have done. I'm not sure why the company would offer this, if those attractions aren't in season. Seems like an easy way to take advantage of tourists. If I decide to travel back I'll probably book a longer tour with McCarthy tours that tours the north part of the island. Their tours I've taken so far have been fantastic

Was in St. John’s for the first time for a buddies wedding.
A whole bunch of us went whale watching,
I’ve been whale watching in Maui, Hawaii and have the Atlantic Ocean a chance to see whales. Well it didn’t disappoint, first the staff at Iceberg Quest were great, from check in to being out on the water to coming back into port, every staff member was great and went above and beyond.
We saw a ton of whales, no breeches but lots of waves from the whales, lots of dives and was very impressed as I’ve been spoiled from Maui whales.
You can purchase beverages (yes beer) and staff come around so you don’t miss out on seeing any whales, the staff even took my empty beer cans which was nice.
As a note it gets about 5/6 degrees Celsius cooler once you get through the inlet so bring warm clothes and if you don’t wear them it’s nice to have them (knapsacks are allowed).
Thanks to the staff at Iceberg, talking about Icebergs we didn’t see any but we’re told we probably won’t, tons of puffins which was nice to see.
Keep up the good work, see pictures…

After a great, lively experience with Iceberg Quest a week earlier in Twillingate, my friends and I were very disappointed with this boat tour in St. John's. First, we were scheduled for the 11:30 tour, but when we arrived we were told that we were rescheduled for the 2 pm tour because of fog and that they had notified us. However, we did not receive that email prior to showing up for the tour. In fact, it first arrived with a noon timestamp. This interrupted our plans for the day. While we understand that poor weather can impact a tour, we should have been given more notice. Secondly, this tour was extremely dull. We were in the back of the boat, and you could not hear the captain (staff member told us there was no speaker in the back). The staff did not interact with us. The music was piped in, unlike the live music we had on our Twillingate tour. We saw a few whales in the distance, but the captain could not go around the cape because of the fog so we did not go any further out. We know whales are not guaranteed, but this was very disappointing. We saw just as many whales from the shore when we went to St. Vincent's beach later in our trip.

This tour was aweful. My family and I went to Newfoundland and we were so excited for this tour. I emailed the company before booking as we were traveling mid June so I wanted to make sure we would see an iceberg. They replied telling me it was the perfect time of year. Not only did we not see an iceberg we didn’t see any whales or puffins. My family of 6 and I were all disappointed. We were on the boat for 2 hours and they took us to signal hill and cape spear (via the boat) but we had been to those locations the day before.
I was on the top level next to the captains area when the boat turned around. The captain was on his phone. He didn’t care that the group of (50-60) people all paid $100 and didn’t see a thing. I would recommend another tour.
I emailed the company after the tour to explain how disappointed we were and how we even checked before booking and got no response.
The next day we went on a hike and past bell island was a giant iceberg. So they were around still.

This tour is a rip off as we saw no whales or puffins - oh one dead puffin. We didn’t even go off shore so no intention whatsoever to see whales. The guide book says August is the season but we sailed very close to to shore line, so not a chance.

The boat cruise was ok, maybe a nice experience if you haven't much experience boating. We did not see much out there, just a few puffins swimming and a whale very far out, not a good viewing but of course, that is out of the operators control. We were not happy that the cruise started 20 minutes late as we had metered parking. Also when we got to the launch they demanded $12 per person extra, because gas is now more expensive then when we purchased the tickets and they wanted it in cash only. I would go with another tour next time, in a neighboring community.

As some other reviews have stated - this year (2024) there are no icebergs (a fact they could have put on their website). On our tour (first one of the day) there wasn't any whale either. Not anybody's fault, the boating along the shoreline is pleasant and could be a nice experience in itself. Unfortunately though, this tour is led as a "party boat", blasting Irish folk music and advertising the fully licensed cash bar on board. No ornithological/aquatic knowledge was conveyed at any point. Being neither informative nor relaxing, we felt it was a really expensive disappointment. Wouldn't do it again and can't recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip out of St John’s. The crew were really friendly and helpful. Some other guests didn’t prepare for the conditions but Glen firstly offered sunscreen then blankets as the conditions outside the harbour were very cold and rough. We saw a humpback whale breaching and stayed near it for quite a while but at a safe distance. The booking in was straightforward and the safety information was easy to understand. I would recommend the trip and suggest that people read the boarding guide and dress appropriately for the conditions.

Hi, is there an age requirement for this tour? I tried to book an adult and a child (2-8) and couldn’t find any availability. But after I switched to an adult and a youth (9-17), I could easily find lots of availabilities. My child is 8, can I book a tour for the 2 of us? Thanks.
