      Trip of a lifetime
Wow, what a trip! Having booked 9 months beforehand, we were so excited for this. We were Tour 23 with Heather as our guide. She was an amazing tour guide; she was friendly, very knowledgeable, made sure we were safe at all times while in Churchill and kept us on schedule perfectly. And she put up with a lot from our boistrous group that had never ending jokes! Jim our buggy driver was fantastic; he spotted bears out of nowhere and oh his stories - he was extremely entertaining, we loved him. Obviously the highlight was seeing the polar bears, but going around the town of Churchill was really nice and definitely worth being on the itinerary. We received outstanding hospitality and service from everyone we encountered - the drivers we had, the various servers for all our meals and the talks we were given. Everyone was just so friendly. The trip was magical!

We saw lots of polar bears!
We went on the Subarctic Discovery: Churchill Polar Bears tour. I usually plan and travel on my own and avoid tours. However, after a lot of research, I decided it was best to do a tour to see polar bears. I'm really glad I did. The chartered flights, that you just walk on with water!, save so much time. The Tundra Buggie is only half full on the multi-day tours. They drive you the block to breakfast, lunch and dinner because there can be polar bears roaming town. There were two polar bear sightings at our motel and Tunda Pub while we were there! I did not want to see a bear without being in the Tundra Buggie! Once I decided to take a tour, I did more research to select a company. This is the one. They are the oldest with the most permits. They are also partners with the nonprofit, Polar Bears International. My biggest concern was would we see polar bears?!? Would we get close enough to see them well?!? YES and YES. We had about 50 sightings, probably 30 unique bears (on Nov 1 and 2). They were far away and very, very close. It was quite amazing. The Tundra Buggies are very cool too. Again, I would have to say Frontiers seemed superior because of all the polar bear cams and guides on the tundra alerting drivers of where there are bears. We saw baby bears, bears sparring, bear yoga, all the things you hope to see. This tour is expensive because of all the logistics and you are in the middle of nowhere. It's not fancy at all, but everything is nice and clean.

A couple of unforgettable days on the Tundra
We had an unforgettable trip to see the bears and the subarctic wildlife out on the Tundra. Our guide Duane was very knowledgeable, professional with some amazing stories. Everything was arranged well and went smoothly. Our buggy driver Jim rocked! He was so funny and such an interesting character. The love and respect these 2 gentleman have for the bears and wildlife is inspiring. We saw many bears and also got to see them sparring, being super cute (themselves!), walking on ice etc. We also saw foxes, an adorable Arctic hare and different birds. The only suggestion for improvement is for those in pre-trip to be more responsive as I had to write in and follow up on some of the information, rather than it being shared with me. I really enjoyed myself and will never forget this trip!

      Worth the money!
Absolutely wonderful tour! Our driver Luke sis a splendid job of educating us and taking the time to ensure we got to see Polar bears as well as other wild like like Red fox. The buggy ride was comparatively smooth being an electric vehicle. Our other tour with Frontier North was a bumpy ride and not really good compared to this tour.

      An absolute (subarctic) blast!
I read about Frontiers North Adventures in a Travel + Leisure article which sparked my interest in their Subarctic Polar Bear tour. I’m so glad I looked into it, as I never knew this kind of polar bear-focused adventure existed. The tour I selected included lodging, meals, ground transportation, and a roundtrip chartered flight to Churchill. Travel to and from the departure point was not included. I had an absolute blast! I came home exhausted from being in an extended state of excitement during my time in Churchill. I enjoyed the town tour and both days in the Tundra Buggy. Frontiers North cannot guarantee what you’ll see on a tour with so many variables at play. We were fortunate to have about a dozen polar bear sightings (including three individual cubs), as well as a wolf, snowy owl, and a ptarmagin. We were also lucky to have beautiful cold weather while out in the Tundra Buggy. Lodging in Churchill is basic, but my stay was comfortable and pretty great. My room included a kitchen, which was convenient. Long story short, my time with Frontiers North was spectacular! So much so, that I’m considering another tour in the future, with a different focus.

      Trip of a lifetime
It was everything we could have possibly hoped for! Potentially we were really lucky to encounter the bears that we did but I am sure it was in no small part down to the experience of our guide. He was knowledgeable and had a fabulous personable way of imparting this knowledge, whilst also managing to keep all of the coach both engaged and relaxed. We saw 12 bears and cubs in total, including a mum with three cubs (extremely rare) and had a male come right up to the buggy to inspect us! Seeing the bears in their natural habitat was more beautiful than I could have imagined. The lunch provided was also good quality and they catered for dietary requirements made known in advance. Although the buggy is heated make sure you layer up because you’ll be opening the window frequently for view and photo ops. If I had planned better I would also have arranged a northern lights tour. You only need minimal time to mooch around the town because it is very small.

      Wonderful nature-centric experience
We recently did a polar bear tour with Frontiers North. I can't say enough good things about this trip. Alex was our guide and Luke was our driver and both were FANTASTIC. We learned so much spending time on the sub-arctic tundra and seeing polar bears in the wild was amazing. Frontiers North was highly organized, the food at the Tundra Buggy Lodge was excellent, and the Tundra Buggy was a unique experience. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting to see polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba.

Polar Bear Expedition was on My Bucket List! SO! worth every penny!
Fantastic, wonderful, well organized. I am 82 years old and this was on my bucket list before covid so finally was able to make it up to Churchill to spend the day viewing those magnificent polar bears. It was a easy trip and not hard for any senior who would want an opportunity to experience the polar bears up close in their natural habitat.

Did I get the timing wrong ?
19-27 October 2023 This is not a complaint or criticism - simply an observation which I hope may balance travellers expectation of the polar bear experience I had a picture in my mind of what to expect Where did I get this expectation ? Must have been from the company promotion and video Step out of the plane at Churchill airport loads of snow Driving around on the tundra buggy 8 am to 4 pm x 3 days would see lots of bears In reality No snow We did see 3 bears but I believe they were the same bears each day The bears were not active sleeping a lot a couple came close to our buggy We spent a lot,of time sitting around on the buggy taking a coffee break, then a lunch break The days were slow and very drawn out at times I was bored and frustrated at times I watched a movie on my iPad Our driver Jim and our guide Jeff I felt tried super hard to “fill in” the gaps with chit chat, stories and funny tales. Both were knowledgeable but too much talking I got sick of it An arctic fox in the distance , a seal in the distance and a Mum bear and one cub in the distance none of which we could see with the naked eye I have checked reviews here and some people I note November saw many bears - like 30 or more From the point of seeing bears I have come away disappointed super disappointed And in talking with other members of our group ( 20) the last night in Winnipeg they felt the same The overall trip however Loved Churchill - a real frontier town on the Hudson Loved meeting Dave And the experience with his dogs ( dog sledding) that was special I could have listened to him all day The facilities out on the tundra could not fault great food accommodation staff congratulations to FRONTIERS North on that front five star ! and we did see the lights ……. Magnificent I loved the whole experience and I came away with way more Knowlegde BUT seeing bears Just didn’t happen so anybody looking at booking this trip be prepared. Clearly you can be lucky and you can be unlucky . A lot of money to be unlucky !

Beware: You could lose U$400+ if your flight to Churchill is Cancelled
Unfortunately, our flight with Calm Air was cancelled so my wife and I were unable to take the tour. No refund offered resulting in a loss of US$800+. If you book this tour you may want to wait till you get to Churchill to minimize your losses. Seems to me a refund or rescheduling this tour would a reasonable outcome here, not taking advantage of a situation like this to take money from your customers. Never again will I book a tour with this company.

Incredible experience with wildlife in the wild
Jim, our driver, did everything he could to allow us to see polar bears, even though it was the off season. We saw a mom and two cubs from a distance, we saw one napping on a rock but the highlight of the trip was his manoeuvring of the vehicle over huge rocks to give us a perfect view of a bear feeding. He also pointed out bald eagles, cranes, ducks and tundra geese and we got amazing photos.

      Tundra Tour
We had a lovely tour with only 4 other passengers. Our guide Jim was super. He was excellent at finding wildlife. We were there on a hot day and there wasn't as much as usual yet he still make the tour interesting. The lunch on board was very good. It was interesting to see the tundra in the summer. I think we will come back for a tour in the winter.

My husband and I had planned a trip to see the polar bears on the Classic Churchill Polar Bear Adventures through Frontiers North Adventures from October 20-25, 2024. Regrettably, I've learned that I require a knee replacement, which can't be scheduled until mid-summer, followed by several months of recovery. Due to this unforeseen circumstance, we won't be able to go on our trip in October.

We've respectfully requested a refund of our $1500 deposit from Frontiers North, but they've declined our request quoting their terms and conditions. While we are aware of their regulations, considering that October is a prime viewing season we're confident that our reserved spots will be easily filled. We requested that we receive a refund of our deposit when/if our spots are filled, and they declined, again stating it was against their policy.

We had hoped for more flexibility and understanding given our unique situation, especially since our cancellation doesn't result in any financial loss for them. Retaining our deposit would actually be a gain for them, making their decision not to refund quite disappointing.

We strongly advise exploring other tour companies if you're planning a trip to Churchill to view the bears. Since there are several options available, we recommend choosing a company known for its flexibility and understanding of unforeseen circumstances.

We understand that your cancellation is unexpected and out of your control. However, Frontiers North Adventures does not refund for such circumstances, which is clearly stated within our terms and conditions and communicated with guests when booking with our team. As discussed with you privately, in these circumstances we are willing to transfer your deposit to a future trip or assist with a travel insurance claim. Please reach out if you'd like to discuss further. Regards, Frontiers North Adventures.

Our polar bear adventure with Frontiers North exceeded every expectation--starting with the fact that we were treated to more than twenty polar bear sightings, of at least 16 different individuals, over our two days on the tundra! We also saw ptarmigan, arctic hare, and red foxes.

While animal sightings often come down to luck, almost every other wonderful aspect of our trip was only possible with the diligence, experience, and caring of everyone at Frontiers North. From our first moments on the ground in Winnipeg, we were impressed with the food and lodging choices, smooth movements between activities, and clear communication.

We could not have asked for a better tour guide than Ward Cameron, who was attentive, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about these bears and their lives. And we are still talking about how skillfully Markus piloted the tundra buggy to maximize our wildlife sightings! We also loved meeting and learning from the good people at Polar Bears International who are so committed to protecting these creatures.

Though we explored staying in the Tundra Buggy Lodge, we ultimately opted to stay in Churchill, and we're glad we did. We did not feel we missed out on any polar bear sightings this way. Rather, we loved experiencing a bit of life in this special place (be sure to check out the Northern Store), and our accommodation (the Aurora Inn) was clean, warm, and comfortable.

I would also note that we took advantage of Frontiers North's gear rental program. Though somewhat pricey, renting a parka, snow pants, and snow boots was still a better deal for us (Californians) than buying new gear we were unlikely to wear again. Gear pickup and dropoff in Winnipeg could not have been easier.

We had a fantastic trip to Churchill with them. The two days at the tundra buggy were amazing. We were so lucky to see 22 different polar bears on one day. The city tours in Churchill were also very nice, including visits of the recyling facility and power station to understand better how that is handled in this artic climate. Our guide David Garrow was very knowledgeble as well as Joe our local driver. We would really recommend this trip.

This is THE way to go see polar bears in Chruchill, Canada. The entire trip is impeccably planned and the trip is suitable for guests of any age or ability. Food is fully provided at local restaurants and while not incredibly fancy, it's quite good. Same with the hotels, both in Winnipeg and in Chruchill, nothing over the top, but clean and suitable. Most importantly, the drives in the tundra buggies are fantastic. We saw 12+ bears each day, including sparring males and a mother and two cubs. The buggy is warm and spacious with plenty of viewing windows and an outdoor deck. Food/drinks are available on board, as is a bathroom. Tours around the town of Churchill are informative and you learn a lot about local culture, history, and wildlife. Dog sledding, while not a long ride, was a unique experience and a lot of fun. We were lucky enough to see the Aurora on our second night. Our guide was great; staying up to inform us if there was an aurora and knocking on doors, knowing all of the animals and history on the tundra and being good guide throughout. FN was a great operator and everything was expertly planned and executed- if you want to see polar bears, this is the way to go.

Wow! Trip of a lifetime from start to finish! We stayed 3 nights on the tundra lodge. The accommodations, food, tundra buggy, lounge, diner, cultural presentations were all beyond our expectations. Mark, our driver, and Jason, our guide, were outstanding, knowledgeable, passionate and great story tellers with a witty sense of humor. We saw polar bears, red fox, arctic hare and amazing scenery and even the Northern Lights!! We are currently in our post-trip mode of feeling great sadness to leave but true gratefulness to have had this very special experience. We hope to return one day - this time for belugas!

Overall, it was an amazing trip and very worth it to see the polar bears before they decrease in number due to global warming.
We signed up for the classic polar bear trip. We arrived in Winnipeg on 10/28/2024, meeting the guide that night with some briefing. The next morning (10/29/2024), we boarded a chartered flight to Churchill, and doing a tour around the town that day. The town is very small, so basically you will be through everything in 1-2 hours, including the polar bear jail and have some free time.
10/30/2024 is the day! We are scheduled to board a tundra buggy to view polar bears. I was actually SUPER worried bear sightings would be limited because of the weather. It was reported to have strong winds, and bears typically hunker down during strong winds. However, it turns out to be an excellent day for bear sightings, and despite the strong winds, we saw 30+ bears. At one point, bears were coming from every direction, and we just lost count. One of the guides said that it was the most bear sightings in one day during his career.
10/31/2024 is a relatively laid back day, when we enjoyed our food (btw food arrangement was amazing), and listened to some presentations, visited museums. The final day, 11/1/2024, was another bear viewing day, and we saw 20+ bears, most were from a distance (so be sure to bring binoculars).
It was a great trip. The only improvement point was the northern lights alert. Northern lights did come out the first night, and we were lucky enough to have seen it in front of the hotel. However, we were told that the guide would've woken us up and likely arrange a transportation to go further into the dark. That did not happen. People were not notified of the show. Another thing that could be better was that I was very excited to see the halloween celebration/kids trick or treating on the day, but again wasn't notified that it started, and we eventually missed the event. Other than that, the trip was great and we had wonderful memories.

Great trip! Our guide (Dave) and driver (Bob) always knew just where to go to see bears and whatever else we wanted. Food at the lodge and in town was great and all staff excellent.

Entire trip was seamless. The bus/plane was always waiting and it all worked like clockwork.

We just returned from a trip to Churchill with Frontiers North. We are avid travelers and were super impressed with the smooth operation that this company runs. Everything from hotel stays, transfers, flights, Tundra Buggy ride to food was very well executed. JP, our Buggy 13 driver was really informative and had a keen eye to spot the bears. We're very thankful that all our wishlist items were checked on the very first day. The Buggy was super comfortable with only 18 passengers. Our tour guide, Josh was very patient and answered all our questions. He and our shuttle driver, Jamie took us to see the spectacular Northern Lights in the freezing temperatures. Thank you for making our trip memorable.

This tour has been the greatest experience of my life.
I booked this tour in 2019 but because of Covid-19, I couldn't go until October 2021.
What an adventure to stay at Tundra Buggy Lodge, drive out on the Tundra Buggy every day to watch the tundra and hopefully see a wild Polar Bear. We saw one female Polar Bear at Gordon Point coming out of the water directly in front of us, awesome sight. Later that evening a Polar bear approched the Tundra Buggy Lodge and it was a big male, it was so exciting. We were also very lucky to see the Northern Lights. The driver and our guide on Buggy 9, were very experienced and funny.

We have recently returned from this trip which was everything we had hoped it would be. The accommodation both in Winnipeg and Churchill was good with the Tundra Inn being much more comfortable than we had thought. We could not have had a better guide with Bryan who was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. Tundra Buggy driver, Jim, was also fabulous; knowledgeable, funny and brilliant at navigating the rough roads.
We saw several polar bears plus arctic and cross foxes and a muskrat but the highlight for me was the close encounter with three wolves. Absolutely amazing.
We enjoyed learning about life in Churchill and the tracking and scientific work being done to ensure the survival of all these threatened species.
    We highly recommend this trip.
