About
See Stanley Park in a way few tourists ever get to see it. This narrated walking tour of one of Vancouver’s best-loved spots gives you a look at secluded paths, a famous totem pole, weird and wonderful public art, tragic tales from history, and a visit to what remains of a village that was almost lost to the passage of time.

Highlights
  • Learn the stories behind Deadman’s Island and the lost village of Whoi Whoi
  • Take pictures of the strangest and most off-beat art in the park
  • Start and end at a central point with plenty of time to sightsee
What to expect
Meet your guide and storyteller for the afternoon at a central meeting point, and get ready to learn the secrets of Stanley Park. Take a hidden path to the seawall, where you’re treated to views of Coal Harbour and hear the chilling tale of Deadman’s Island. A quick break gives you time to see authentic First Nations totem poles before returning to the secret side of the park. Tales of a forgotten cemetery, a lost village, and Stanley Park’s most notorious crime compete for interest with the public art you pass, as you stroll past centuries-old trees that have grown in the park since the time before Captain Vancouver sailed up the Burrard Inlet. Having seen a part of Vancouver even locals may have missed, your tour ends back at your starting point.

There's something magical about becoming a tourist in your own city, and Vancouver Walking Tours are one of the best ways to do it. This was our (husband & husband) 3rd walking tour! We also recommend the Lost Souls of Gastown Tour as well as the Really Gay History Tour. Other than knowing more cool & hidden things about Stanley Park, what stayed with me most is that one could really tell our guide has a background in theatre. He was enthusiastic & expressive throughout the tour. We had no problem hearing and seeing him at any point. He was very well-rehearsed & well-spoken. Even if you are from Vancouver, we can't recommend this enough. Double that if you are visiting our great adopted city. We intend to participate in the other walking tours they offer!

As always, enthusiastic and knowledgeable guides make this walk in the park an educational and entertaining experience. Teo's storytelling talents made 2 hours out in iffy weather fly by. A excellent way to spend a Sunday morning with friends or family whether you're a local or a tourist.

Bravo Forbidden Vancouver!! I live in Vancouver. I have walked in/around Stanley Park literally hundreds of times. I learned SO MUCH on this tour!!! Hundreds of years of history that has been all but lost in the hustle and bustle of this fast growing city. Glenn is an exceptionally talented storyteller who chose to punctuate this experience by sharing with us several very well selected first hand historical experiences as well as rounding it out with some botanical insights. Particularly in light of our first observation of Truth and Reconciliation Day, I found this tour most appropriate and respectfully presented.

This tour was very well planned and executed. I liked that there were only seven quests, which made it easy to stay together and get close the the guide to hear the stories. There is so much history in Stanley Park, and our guide, Aman, was a walking encyclopedia of information. He had pictures and other visual aides, read poetry and stories from books he brought along. Great sense of humour and answered all questions. Add that it was a beautiful morning, this was time well spent. I look forward to bringing more people along on this and other tours that Forbidden Vancouver offers. Keep up the great work.

The tour guide was Aislynn and she was incredibly kind and passionate about the stories beneath the Stanley Park. She would try to make everyone comfortable by asking some questions about us. She would read some historical quotes with a lot of feelings. 100% recommended.

Glenn is a born storyteller who is enthusiastic, informed and personable. He brings this tour alive with newspaper clippings, poems from Pauline Johnson, and anecdotes from his research. The time goes quickly as he explains the historical background, the development of the park and its indigenous roots. He has a clear speaking voice which is easy to follow and this tour is highly recommendable.

I loved hearing the history of Deadman's island and the indigenous villages at Stanley Park. Both entertaining and informative. Our guide Glenn was excellent, particularly loved hearing his readings of the poems of Pauline Johnson.

I used my Secrets of Stanley Park birthday gift last night and learned so much about a park I walk through almost daily. There was so much Indigenous and colonial history to learn, and Glenn included a lot of fun bonus content about city buildings and the plants in the park. I'm definitely going to check out more of Forbidden Vancouver's tours!

We had an amazing time.

Great storytelling and learnt a lot of new facts about Stanley Park/Vancouver that myself, and my group were not previously aware of.

Our guide Glenn was enthusiastic, engaging, and really absorbed you into his story telling. The group I was with had a great time, and this was due to Glenn's energy to keep us entertained.

We took this tour on a beautiful sunny Sunday in July and it was a wonderful experience. Our guide Glenn was very knowledgeable and his enthusiasm for his job was palpable. Glenn took us off the beaten path and regaled us with stories of Stanley Park’s past in the most engaging manner. I’m a Vancouver native and still I learned so much about the park’s history. We were a small group of 4 in total and it was perfect cause Glenn told us extra stories and had lots of time to answer our questions. We had so much fun and I’m so glad we did this! 👍🏼
ps. Please add the Art Deco and Chocolate Tasting tour again soon- really want to take that!
