Experience a 3-hour private cooking lesson from a local home cook. Possible specialties you may learn to prepare include: mole poblano, tinga de pollo (shredded chicken cooked in a tomato-onion sauce), pipian verde (chicken smothered in a pumpkin seed and tomatillo sauce) and hand-made tamales stuffed with regional ingredients. For dessert, you might enjoy a traditional sweet made by stewing fruit or sweet potatoes in syrup. Additional options may include Poblano cuisine or dishes featured from other parts of this diverse country. If you have any dietary restrictions, your instructor can prepare inventive vegetarian cuisine including tacos de jamaica (tacos stuffed with hibiscus flowers topped with Oaxacan cheese). Although your instructor does not speak English, a family member will translate during the experience.
After your time in the kitchen, enjoy the meal of typical Mexican family-style dishes at the family's table. Upon completion of this unforgettable cultural and cooking experience in Puebla, you'll be provided with recipes to take home and leave knowing that you have gained new insight to regional cuisine and culture and that you have made new friends.
Please note: this is not a professional cooking class, rather than an experience to visit an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
