What to expect
The first stop will be for a quesadilla where you’ll also get to see how tortillas are made and learn how important they are to Mexican cuisine. The second stop will be a small but colorful fruit market where we will check out some of the local produce and cool off with a fresh juice. Our next stop will be for pollo rostizado, (local BBQ chicken) and we’ll be eating it at the most popular place to eat chicken among locals. You’ll also get a quick lesson in how to eat tacos like a local. Still hungry? We hope so since there’s plenty more eating to do. Your fourth street food stop will be to sample tacos de carnitas (pulled pork tacos) where your local guide will tell you about the birth of Mexican cuisine. Next up, we’ll try tacos de barbacoa, made using a pre-Columbian cooking style, and tacos de guisado (tacos with stewed fillings) from the revolution times. While you feast, you’ll learn the history behind these tacos. Your last stop will be an exclusive rooftop terrace with spectacular ocean views where we will relax and enjoy a cold drink. Your taco tour ends back at the meeting point.

Taco tour with Juan
Mar. 2020 • Couples
We have done two of Urban Adventure's gastro walking tours in Paris before, so when we booked a last minute trip to Playa Del Carmen in Mexico, they were the only excursion website we looked at and we booked "Let's taco 'bout tacos" with very high expectations.

What we love about these tours is the enthusiasm, pride and knowledge the tour guides have for their local food and drink that they share with their new friends. Juan, who walked us around Playa Del Carmen, was definitely cut from the same cloth as his Parisian counterparts. Delving into topics about Mexico, the Mayan Riviera and how to farm corn to make the best tacos. He took us to places we would never have gone into without his local knowledge and then let us wallow in our taco induced coma in a stunning roof top bar.

Delicious tacos, good company and a great time. Thank you Juan.

Fantastic day learning about and eating tacos!
Feb. 2020
My boyfriend and I met up with Juan and walked around Playa making stops at 4 taco places and a juice place. Juan was incredibly knowledgeable and presented the information in a very enjoyable and interesting way. He was also quite funny and I enjoyed all the stories. The tacos were all great and and the juice was wonderful as well.

My friend and I met Juan and we toured around Playa eating at 4 taco places. Juan was a great storyteller, very professional and a perfect tour host. The tacos we ate had great variety and the rooftop drink at the end was spectacular. Thank you Juan and don’t hesitate to book this tour!

We had a great time experiencing unique tacos and refreshing drinks at places around Playa del Carmen we wouldn't have found on our own. Our guide, Juan, was friendly and knowledgable and combined just the right amount of eating, walking, and explanation for us to learn that all tacos are not alike! He asked which tacos were our favorite - I couldn't decide - they were all delicious.

Taco ❤️❤️❤️
Dec. 2019 • Solo
I have always loved Mexican food, but I have a newfound respect for the art of the taco after my tour with Urban Adventures. My guide, Gama, was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the culture, history, and cuisine of Mexico. He also taught me how to eat tacos like a boss! If you decide to take this tour (and I highly recommend you do!) I suggest you just say “yes” to any food your guide recommends. I tried some ingredients I had never heard of (chaya water and cuitlacoche, anyone?) but that I’ll be keeping an eye out for whenever I eat Mexican food going forward. Great tacos. Great tour.

Kickass taco adventure 🌮
Dec. 2019 • Solo
First of all, our guide Luiz was amazing. He knew not only countless facts about tacos and its origins, but also ties it in with the ancient culture and history of Mexico. He was also more than happy to provide tips and recommendations for local places to go that you never would have seen or think to go to otherwise, which was such a big help especially when you’re alone and don’t know the language. Anyway, the tacos were ah-ma-zing and the various ingredients we tried were all so fresh and perfectly prepared, bringing an authentic feel to the tour. It also didnt hurt that the beautiful people that were cooking, preparing and serving us the food were all lovely and welcoming. One of the best tours I have taken and definitely would recommend to anyone thats in Playa Del Carmen 😋🌮🇲🇽
