A Highlight of Our Visit to Oaxaca!
My mom and I had the most delightful day with Alfonso and his parents. We learned some fantastic recipes... it was the best food of our entire week in Oaxaca! The black mole, memelas and salsas were AMAZING. The kitchen space is large, colorfully decorated, authentic and clean. I appreciated that it was at their home, rather than a commercial building. Every detail was wonderful, even the pottery we used. It was an absolute highlight of our visit and one we will long remember. I HIGHLY recommend this class!

      Best part of our trip
This was crazy cool. From the get to Alfonso was super fun and relaxed, answered our questions and customized the menu based on our groups tastes. His parents were so much fun and also very helpful in the kitchen giving us tips and tricks. Would recommend to anyone looking for an amazing food experience in Oaxaca!

Hilarious times, best Mole of trip
First of all, Alphonso’s dad is a trip, total character. You cook a meal at Alphonso’s house, in a huge kitchen they’ve built for the classes, with his mom and dad. We made Memelas, mole negro and chocolate ice cream. I’d say this is less instructional cooking class and more home cooking experience, which in retrospect I think is better than a typical class. Hands down this was the best mole we’ve had in Mexico. Like by far the best. Family recipes! Highly recommend the class. Let loose, have a few mezcals and come hungry!

      Hands on Cooking
We really enjoyed the hands on cooking class with Alphonso and his family. There was only one other couple in the class. We made appetizers (red salsa, green salsa and guacamole), the Entrée was chicken with a yellow mole and we made a custard with dark chocolate for dessert. All of these choices were decided when we visited a local market before we cooked. Alphonso also asked our preferences and gave us choices. And of course there was Mezcal to drink.

      Great Cooking Class/Market Tour
Alphonso was our chef/guide for this market tour and cooking class. He took us to a fantastic small market and gave us a choice of menus. We then went to his commercial kitchen and cooked two salsas, a guacamole, a chicken mole dish, memelas, and a custard. We also had local mezcal. Alphonso was a great instructor and we would like to cook with him again.

An immersive and authentic cooking class with a welcoming family
My group had a wonderful experience with this cooking class! It started with us getting to pick the three dishes the we would cook; It was lovely that they provided multiple options. After, we went on a tour of the markets to pick up the ingredients, with Poncho leading the way. He also pointed out great spots for us to eat and shop. After we got what we needed, we went to Poncho's family house to make the meal. His family was so welcoming and fun to be around. They tasked each of us with part of the work of preparing the dish so that we all felt included in the process. It felt like being part of their family for a day. The food itself turned out great! The whole experience gave me a new appreciation for Oaxacan cuisine. He sent the recipes to us after so we can re-create them on our own time. Our group loved doing this, and yours will too!

Do this - it will make you happy!
So much fun and the food we cooked was the best we ate in 2 weeks in Mexico. Informative market visit, then off to Alphonso's parents' kitchen where we were greeted warmly like long lost friends. We all cooked together, more like a family gathering than a class, learnt loads, had a lot of laughs and ate and drank plenty!

Excellent and fun cooking class in Oaxaca
We had a fantastic time with Alphonso and his parents at our cooking class. We met Alphonso in the town centre and went to the market to pick up the ingredients for our class after choosing what we would like to eat. After the market we went back to Alphonso’s house and met his parents who were hilarious and made us feel very welcome. The kitchen is so pretty and filled with items made by Alphonso senior. The food we made was delicious and the mescal was free flowing - we woke up the next day with sore heads! Afterwards Alphonso sent us the recipes so we can try and recreate the wonderful food at home. We would highly recommend this cooking class in Oaxaca - it was excellent.

      Best cooking class in Oaxaca!
We had such an amazing experience learning to cook with Alfonso and his family. He picked us up in the city centre, took us to the market to buy ingredients and then drove us out to his family home. The kitchen is absolutely stunning and we were instantly made to feel at home. Alfonso is a brilliant teacher and his parents are hilarious and were a great help as well. We made some delicious food but some even better memories!

      Excellent day of fun
I spent my birthday doing a cooking class with Alfonso and his lovely parents. It was a great experience and the food was great. I am not much of a cook, so I learned a TON. Whether ai will use it later in life is left to be seen, but i highly recommend this experience. Super fun with great people.

      An incredible time!
Alfonso and his family are wonderful hosts and helped my family and I feel at home. The trip to the market to pick out fresh ingredients was educational and fun and then spending the day at his home in his kitchen learning how to cook delicious food was so much fun. The mezcal was flowing and it was a highlight of our trip!

      Amazing experience!
I truly can’t say enough wonderful things about this experience. Alfonso was an incredible host and his family - who we were lucky enough to meet - were kind, welcoming and absolutely hilarious. From having the opportunity to visit the local markets in order to purchase ingredients, to actually cooking our meal - the entire process was super immersive and one-of-a-kind. I’d highly recommend anyone visiting Oaxaca book this class! You’ll leave a happier and fuller version of yourself!

If the only thing I did in mexico was this, the 33hrs in the plane from Australia would have been worth it. A MUSSSST!!
Hands down…one the greatest experiences ive ever had traveling or even not traveling. We felt lucky enough to spend the day cooking with Poncho and his mum n dad at their home. Tortillas from scratch, salsa city, their family’s recipe for mole, guac with all the secrets under the sun, enough mezcal to sterilise a camel and laughs where i had to leave the kitchen because the tears pouring down my face stopped me from seeing what i was cooking. I’ve never felt warmth like that 🇲🇽. An impossible-to-fight smile reliving it all.
