About
Join me on a walk through 700 years of Mexican history: from an ancient Aztec temple, to colonial era cathedrals, to the beautiful 1930s Palacio de Bellas Artes. Along the way, I will point out details and sites often bypassed but important to help you understand the culture and mind set of modern CDMX. I am more than happy to share my knowledge of both ancient history, to modern day hang outs…and give you as much fascinating trivia as you prefer. Let me guide you chronologically and physically, from Templo Mayor to Alameda park, with interesting stops in between– as fast or as slow as you want to walk.

Start your Mexico City visit with Ivan!
Feb. 2020
We spent our first morning in Mexico City by going on Ivan's travel to the past tour. Boy, were we glad we did. Mexico City is one of the great cities of the world. There is so much to take in it can be overwhelming but Ivan's tour gave us an excellent overview. Ivan is knowledgeable ( a history grad) passionate about his city, and sharing that with visitors. He answered all our questions and was always patient. A highlight was seeing the murals in the public education building- awe inspiring. This tour showed us what we wanted to go back to, or explore on our own at a later date. We strongly recommend Ivan and this tour.

Fascinating and enjoyable

Ivan is a very knowledgeable host who can put historical events in context. It is amazing to understand the way that Mexico City is built on the foundations of earlier civilizations. At several points Ivan pills out a tablet to display historical photographs of the buildings or streetscapes you're standing before, so you have a vivid view of the evolution. He's happy to respond to questions, not tied to a script, and very accommodating of the needs of his guests.

Highly recommend Ivan's tour: affordable, informative... + fun

We were lucky when we found Ivan: his tour turned out to be one of the highlights of our visit. We really enjoyed walking as he pointed out the many ‘layers’ of history in Centro. With impeccable English, Ivan was able to weave everything together in historical and cultural context.
He explained the significance of the important, obvious sites like Templo Mayor, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Zocalo, walking us physically- and yes, chronologically as promised!- from the time of the Aztecs, through the colonial times to the beauty of 20th century Palacio de Bellas Artes, as we walked past modern, bustling CDMX. It was exciting to see the city through his eyes, learning details we never would have noticed, or known of without his obvious love of history.
(We had walked down Av Francisco I. Madero a number of times before we took his tour; we were amazed as he pointed out quirky and ‘hidden in plain sight’ reminders of days long gone., that we had passed over and over, clueless, on our own)
