Highlights
  • Explore the ancient canals of Mexico City in a traditional trajinera boat
  • Learn about Xochimilco’s rich Aztec history from a knowledgeable guide
  • See murals by some of the country’s best artists at the National University
  • Make the most of your time with convenient hotel pickup and drop off
What to Expect
After being picked up at your hotel, take a 17-mile (28 km) bus ride from Mexico City’s historic center to Xochimilco and step onto a trajinera, a colorful flat-bottomed boat. With your guide, begin your voyage through these ancient waterways. You’ll see the chinampas—a system of floating gardens developed by the Aztecs centuries ago amid land shortages—and learn about how many of the city’s flower markets still rely on blooms produced in Xochimilco. Afterwards, head to the main campus of National University of Mexico, itself a UNESCO World Heritage site, to see its iconic Central Library, murals by Diego Rivera and David Alfaro Siqueiros, as well as its stadium and bullfighting ring. The tour ends with a ride back to your hotel.

This tour was overbooked so we were put into a similar tour which was not what we wanted. We were thrown into a tour that included Frida Khalo (which we did not want to see) and were told if we wanted to go inside we had to pay an entrance fee as this was an ‘extra’. As a

Rosa and her crew were so lovely and hospitable. They provide transportation to and from the boat location, and have a beer and guacamole waiting for you on the boat, (they also had mezcal and tequila plenty, if that’s your thing). The boat ride is very relaxed and seating is

It's not that the guide and driver did not do a good job it's just that your at the mercy of the slowest member of the group. Xochimilco was interesting, full of locals on the weekend enjoy the food and music while floating on the canal. Food was fine but I guess I was the only

We took this trip on our second day in Mexico City and only good thing about it was the fact that we had a private driver taking us to the canals. If you expect this to be educational then you are better of shopping around for another tour. We do recommend visiting Xochimilco.
