About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Doug S0 contributionsTerrific Hiking in the Mountains around GuanajuatoI did both hikes and they were equally terrific. Susana and Antonio are so knowledgeable about the flora and fauna of the area. As well Antonio gave me a great overview of the mining history that fueled the wealth of Guanajuato for many years. Highly recommended if you're looking for exercise and great information about this beautiful part of Mexico.Written 5 February 2025
- LeAnn G0 contributionsHorseback RideWe enjoyed our afternoon with Antonio and Lupe, riding gentle calm horses in a natural rural area that was green and beautiful. The horses were gentle and easy to ride.Written 14 January 2025
- 935sheph0 contributionsMining neighborhoods by car.Three of us took a mining neighborhoods by car with Susana. This was a wonderful experience. Susana did a wonderful job of sharing the history of not just mining but the history of the city. By going by car we were able to more fully appreciate the scope of mining in Guanajuato and gave us a better idea of the layout of town for further exploration. we made several stops along the way including going into a museum/ mine shaft. I would highly recommend Cacomixtle for tours in Guanajuato.Written 9 November 2024
- 370terik0 contributionsExcellent!!!The guides were amazing, the horses were beautiful, the scenery was all we could hope for. We enjoyed the authentic Mexican breakfast. All in all, a perfect day!!!!Written 5 November 2024
- Lauriglorry0 contributionsAuthentic and safe horseback rideWe had the most wonderful time during this horseback ride. Don Antonio, our englisch speaking guide, was very knowledgeable about the history of the region. Service was excellent, we booked on short notice the day before, and, most importantly, the horses appeared to be in good shape, were very friendly and calm and carried us inexperienced riders safely.Written 23 May 2024
- benjaminf8100 contributionsThe Very Best in Guided Experiences!I have visited Guanajuato three times and taken nine (9!) tours with Cacomixtle, including the city walking tour, La Bufa guided hike, street food tour, mezcal tasting, and cantinas/bar tour in Guanajuato, as well as the San Miguel de Allende day trip and rustic horseback riding and lunch experience near Santa Rosa. The guides - Susana, Antonio, and Armando - are knowledgeable, warm, engaging and – above all - so much fun! My tours with Cacomixtle have given me great insight into the history, culture, natural environment, cuisine and more of the beautiful, vibrant city that is Guanajuato, and I really appreciate how thoughtfully the tours are planned and customized based on your interests. While travel is a great passion of mine, and I have worked with many tour companies, Cacomixtle is still my favorite. This past visit, Susana even put together an extensive, personalized list of suggestions for things to do outside of our tours. Highly recommended! I will certainly look to Cacomixtle again when I return to Guanajuato.Written 12 May 2024
- davidsK8352RG0 contributionsGorgeous views of GuanajuatoAntonio picked my dad and I up from our hotel and drove us through the fantastic tunnel network running through the city. He was a font of knowledge about Guanajuato, so that even before we had reached the Bufa hills we had learned a great deal. Our guide was very patient and conversational with us, telling us a great deal about the city's mining history, mummies, local plants and animals and sports teams, mesoamerican history and geological undergirdings, all while the area's scenery opened up as we ascended. This is a strenuous hike so good shoes and a walking stick are advised, especially for those worried about their knees.Written 30 January 2024
- L914CWrichardf0 contributionsFantastic MTB trip with Armando!I arranged a personalized tour with Armando which was a mix of riding up out of town, dirt road climbing, technical single track. Armando met me on time and we had a really great 3 hour ride through varied terrain and great views of Gto. from different vantages. He is a great and interesting guy. I will definitely go out with him again. I can't recommend him enough.Written 11 January 2024

- Savytaveler1230 contributionsFantastic daylong tour of GuanajuatoWe had a fantastic full-day tour with Susana. We visited La Valenciana Church and a wonderful cooperative in Santa Rosa de Lima, where we tasted a variety of marmelades and candied fruits. Then we had a fantastic tour and wine tasting at Cuna de Tierra, before heading to Dolores Hidalgo. Susana took us to a wonderful taquaria for carnitas. They were delicious and we brought back a kilo to continue enjoying at our AirBnB. Susana made the trip interesting and fun. I highly recommend this daylong tour to get to see so much of Guanajuato!Written 28 December 2023
- 829rebeccap0 contributionsAmazing mountain bike tour of Santa RosaOur family had a great bicycle tour with Armando in the Santa Rosa mountains. The tour was prompt, courteous, and safe. Our family really enjoyed getting to know Armando and learn more about the mountains, the mines, and Guanajuato. Armando humored our fledgling Spanish speakers in the family by practicing Spanish with us. He was fluent in English and spoke perfect English with our non-Spanish speaker. A moderate level of fitness is needed, the biking is mostly downhill with a few gentle uphills. The tracks are technical in a few places, so some basic mountain biking skills are a good idea. Thank you Armando, it was a great experience!Written 16 December 2023

Susana, Antonio, and Armando are all knowledgeable, warm, engaging and – above all - so much fun! My tours with Cacomixtle have given me great insight into the history, culture, natural environment, cuisine and more of the beautiful, vibrant city that is Guanajuato. While travel is a great passion of mine, and I have worked with many tour companies all over the world, Cacomixtle is my favorite. Reflecting on all the joy that Cacomixtle added to my experiences in Guanajuato makes me smile big – highly recommended! - benjaminf8100 contributionsbeautiful hike - great guidesI have done the La Bufa hike twice with Cacomixtle – once with Antonio and most recently with Susana. This is a great hike of easy-to-moderate difficulty that I would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, and Susana and her team are great guides to show you the way and provide whatever background on the area, or Guanajuato generally, that you want. The “reward” at the end of the hike – a beautiful panoramic view of Guanajuato – is very special. Cacomixtle does such a great job tailoring the tour to whatever may interest you.Written 10 September 2023

Our family of four, including two young children aged 7 and 4, had the pleasure of experiencing a history and food tour of Guanajuato led by the wonderful Susana. From the moment we booked the tour, Susana's flexibility and willingness to accommodate our needs were evident, making us feel welcomed and at ease even before the tour began.
Having arrived in Guanajuato late the previous night, Susana's tour served as a perfect first-day orientation to this vibrant city. She skillfully balanced historical insights with culinary adventures, introducing us to delicious local delicacies such as tlyacuyos and the refreshingly unique mojito helado. These were not just treats for our taste buds but also gateways to understanding the local culture and traditions.
What stood out to us was Susana's ability to engage with our entire family. She made a special effort to include our children in conversations, helping them (and us) practice and improve our Spanish in a fun and interactive way. It's not every day that you find a tour guide who can connect with both adults and children so effortlessly.
Susana's knowledge of Guanajuato is impressive, and her passion for the city shines through in her storytelling. The tour felt like a journey through time, where each street and building had its own tale to tell, brought to life by Susana's vivid descriptions.
For anyone visiting Guanajuato for the first time, especially families with young children, we wholeheartedly recommend taking a tour with Susana. It's a fantastic way to get acquainted with the city's highlights and hidden gems alike. Our time with Susana was not just informative but also incredibly enjoyable, leaving us with cherished memories and a deeper appreciation for Guanajuato.

Private walking tour in Guanajuato
When I made a private tour reservation the evening prior to the 9 a.m. tour, I wasn’t certain how quickly or if I would hear from someone considering the late request. However, I received a response from someone at the tour operator, Cacomixtle, within two hours. They mentioned there was a couple that requested the same time and asked if I would be okay taking the tour with the couple. Because the tour was rather expensive, I asked if the cost could be discounted because it was no longer private, and they agreed.
The tour guide Berenice “Bere” was fantastic. She grew up in Guanajuato and was very knowledgeable about the city’s history and added a lot of personal touches and stories to her tour which made it feel authentic. She is fluent in English and answered all of our questions, provided suggestions, and gave us options especially toward the end of our tour when we could have continued seeing more in the streets of the city or go up to the Pipila monument.
The customer service and communication was top notch and the tour was excellent. I highly recommend both Berenice and Cacomixtle. They provided a great introduction to my time in Guanajuato and made it easier to locate sites and plan where I would spend the rest of my time during my stay. Thank you Bere and Cacomixtle.

Your trusted person in Guanajuato! (And not only)
Our stay in Guanajuato was made unforgettable thanks to Susanna and Berenice, two extraordinary guides who made us discover the soul of the city and its surroundings!
The first day we went on a walking tour with Berenice. He guided us through the colorful streets and stories of the city, introducing us to its culture and past! He also recommended a great place to have breakfast 😋
On the second day, Susanna took us on a scenic car tour of the surrounding hills. We visited the mining districts, stopped at breathtaking viewpoints and had a typical lunch in a local-only place! Not touristy at all.
The professionalism and sympathy of Susanna and Berenice made the difference, making our two days in Guanajuato perfect and memorable. Also, they provided us with valuable tips for the rest of our trip to Mexico!
If you are looking for reliable and passionate guides, Susanna and Berenice are your ideal choice. We look forward to returning!

We were able to arrange this tour on our last evening in Guanajuato, and even after several days in the city it was as though we were seeing it for the first time. Susana helped convey the rich history of Guanajuato, and took us to parts of the city we probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. She was an absolute delight, generous with her time and insights, knowledgeable and willing to answer whatever questions we had. We were so glad we booked this tour, and highly recommend you do so as well.

After reading the 5-star reviews and comments about this tour we decided to book it for our recent trip to Guanajuato. We couldn't have been more pleased with Susanna, our incredible and knowledgable guide. She met us at our hotel and immediately began our walking tour of the old city. As a native of the city she had tremendous knowledge regarding its history, culture, and people. She helped us understand the importance of the city, particularly the Granary, at the beginning of the War of Independence in 1810. Her vivid descriptions and details brought the storming of this building alive in a way simply reading about it couldn't accomplish.
Susanna was also eager to answer our questions and was flexible enough to lead us down the street to where a large group of dancers was rehearsing for their upcoming performance in the Cervantes Festival. It was wonderful to watch them and hear the amazing chorus accompanying them. She included the colorful San Juan Market in our tour and led us through several subterranean traffic tunnels which are so unique to the city, explaining their significance and history.
Later that afternoon after the tour we ran into Susanna and her mother who greeted us warmly. We also met her brother who had recently opened a Mezcaleria near our hotel. The following day we had a hiking tour of La Bufa with her father! This is truly a warm, welcoming family. We feel like we made new friends in Guanajuato, and we are grateful!

We had an exceptional walking tour of Guanajuato with our guide, Antonio. He provided us with a fascinating history lesson, sharing not only the rich historical details of the city but also personal stories from his own upbringing in the city center. Antonio was very considerate, adjusting the pace to match our comfort, and we never felt rushed. It was a thoroughly enjoyable and educational experience, thanks to Antonio’s expertise and thoughtful approach. Highly recommend!

Susana was our private tour guide. The tour was rather inexpensive for 2 people and very intense. We spent approximately 4 hours touring the city. We covered some of the famous buildings, tunnels, parks, monuments, and markets. She explained how floods impacted the design of the city and how people traveled from place to place. Susana was very punctual and she met us at our AirBnb which was most convenient. She even added a few sites that we requested. Be sure to book Susana and be ready for a day of rich culture and plenty of walking, although the course is easy to walk. Suggest you take the tour on the front end of your trip as you're given a wonderful perspective of the city, which proved valuable to us throughout our stay.

The guide was very kind and professional.
I could learn about the stories and people
related with the history of Guanajuato.
I recommend morning time session with small
group because it is very easy to walk around
the streets and tunnels.
This tour does not have plan to enter museum because they are focusing on knowing whole
city and history.
I really had a great time and I would like to join
this tour again with my friends because this tour
is the best way to know about Guanajuato city.
I would like to say thank you to my guide, Susana.
And I want to visit the park again where my guide brought me soon.

Hi! We're currently in San Luis Potosi and plan to take the bus from here to GTO, and would love to take your Walking Tour on September 4 or September 5. I just have a few questions:
1) Are you able to pick people up who arrive at the Primera Plus or ETN Bus Station in GTO? Or do you only pick up at GTO hotels?
2) What time would your tour start on September 4 or 5?
3) Is there a chance all the museums and sites will be closed that weekend due to Covid lockdowns?
Thank you/Gracias!
