About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Lee C0 contributionsDon't miss this experience! We stay here every year and even though we own a condo on the beach in Freeport there is solitude and peace here. We rent a villa for the night and enjoy absolute silence and peace and tranquility. Barry and his family go above and beyond to make everyone feel at home. They always check on us and food is always great. The reef is wonderful and we recommend this place to everyone we meet on the island. Don't miss this experience!!Written 16 March 2024
- DimplesPalmer0 contributionsLaid back piece of Paradise! We chose to spend our one day on Grand Bahama Island at Paradise Cove and we definitely made the right choice. It wasn't offered through the cruise ship so we booked direct through the website. We were already glad we did as we watched at the other cruise passengers herded into large 2 decker buses by the hundreds. Transportation from the port was included in the price and we enjoyed the ride. The driver was great and gave us a little tour and information on the way. This is a hidden gem! Very laid back low key private beach hangout. We snorkeled the reef and our instructor was great. You can tell she loves her job and the ocean. Snorkeling was amazing. We seen conch, fish, stingrays, corals and sea turtles. The sea turtles were amazing! After snorkeling we enjoyed some local cocktails and Bahamian beers! They also have a restaurant on site so make sure you enjoy some local conch dishes! We tried both the cracked and grilled conch. Both were delicious! We definitely enjoyed our day here and would recommend anyone ona cruise to book the day here! Great place. Amazing people!Written 29 July 2022
- L177VBmicheld0 contributionsTourist Trap!Staff is extremely disorganized. The food takes a long time after you order. You have to stand in line to get checked in, get your tickets for equipment, back in line to return, back in line to give them a ticket you returned the equipment. It’s a CIRCUS! The “reef” is a joke! I had a great laugh. The two turtles I swam with made my day. The water is dirty and smells odd. I was told they could take us back at 6 when they closed, but you guessed it nope! That was a “sales pitch”. It’s a tourist trap in all regards. Paid almost $200! I couldn’t get picked up until 12 PM and I had to leave by 4:30 PM. Don’t waste your time and hard earned money. Free beaches all over you can go to and I know they’re much nicer. Will NOT return ever!!Written 20 July 2022
- E5078GPjohnm0 contributionsFantastic time, worth the trip.Had an absolutely amazing time here. It is a locally owned and operated equipment and beach shop just off Deadman's Reef. We took a cab from the cruise terminal at Freeport, it took about 30 minutes. We did not realize you could arrange for pickup and dropoff from cruises on the website, but the cab driver we had knew exactly where to go. We rolled up at 0830 am and paid a $5 per person admission fee, $7 for two chairs and were in the water after a quick safety briefing, which included a description of what the best places to see wildlife were. There is an artificial reef close into shore with tons of fish, and we saw several sea turtles eating sea grass and generally chilling. We also saw a sting ray. Out past the rocks is the actual reef; we didn't make it that far but fellow snorkelers reported it was amazing. There is reasonably priced food, conch fritters, cracked conch and also burgers and fries. There are outdoor showers and changing rooms. The staff is all local, very friendly and very knowledgeable about the local ecosystem. There is equipment available for rental, as well as kayaks and paddleboards. This was our first time snorkeling in the Bahamas. The beach was very shallow during low tide and at times we were swimming in only 2-3 feet of water, which may be annoying for experienced snorkelers, but it's great when you're with kids. Out past the rocks is the real reef with a huge dropoff. Can't recommend this place enough, I would definitely check it out.Written 23 April 2022
- jaxsonbacon0 contributionsOrganized, Attentive & Entertaining!Barry & his staff are a well oiled machine. I cant imagine a better way to spend the day on Grand Bahamas. From the ship we were picked up promptly and our driver gave us lots of historical information about the island and the people there. Barry takes safety very seriously and with this particular reef, instruction is needed in order to maintain the health of the reef so pay attention! The beach and reef are one of the most beautiful places Ive ever been. The food is great, equipment is clean and maintained and demonstrations for activities is available. Safe for all ages as the snorkeling areas are marked by zones.Written 29 December 2021
- 13Hilltop0 contributionsGreat SnorkellingThe winds finally cooperated so we could snorkel at Paradise Cove before we came home. We visited twice before that but the waves were not conducive to snorkeling. The owner gave us an introduction and advised us where to go to see the sea life. Many fish at the reef balls to see and sea turtles further out. No manta rays while we were there. We did not venture beyond the reefs to deeper water where there is more to see apparently. Depending on the tide, a flotation belt might be wise which I did rent. A nice little shop for buying souvenirs on site. The menu was limited in the restaurant/bar. Definitely the best place on the island for snorkeling. The beach area was damaged by the last hurricane.Written 21 March 2020
- Paul B0 contributionsPositive review even though weather canceled snorkel excursionQuick email replies, and your reviews made selection easy. We were warmly met on time and place (Grand Celebration cruise) by Mr Parker with a nice mini bus. He advised us the weather canceled our snorkel trip and we can select a refund or a bus tour. Owner Barry was on top of everything by phone. Tour was nice. We look forward another opportunity with safer water conditions. BTW, because of another mis-informed couple that we picked up at Harley store, I recommend NOT using a third party and book directly with deadman's reef.com.Written 10 February 2020
- Dreamer4943220 contributionsGood times in ParadiseMy family and I wanted a good snorkeling experience and Paradise Cove delivered. It was isolated so there were only a handful of people at the beach. We saw sea turtles, stingrays, and barracudas. I would go back anytime.Written 17 January 2020
- Deanmillhouse0 contributionsGreat Beach and snorkeling away from crowds. We visited Paradise Cove and had great time. Water was even warm enough for Florida residents to snorkel in December. Saw many sea turtles in close protected waters and nice reef at the drop-off 50 yards off shore. Kayaking was also cool we used a glass bottom one. Down side was some annoying no seeums and couple oil rigs off shore in distance but still a great place to go. Great Beach, food, beer, and excellent customer service await.Written 6 January 2020
- BoardingPass5629430 contributionsAbsolutely Perfect! This has been by far one of the best experiences we have had while on vacation! This is a family owned business and you can see the pride Barry and his family have in providing guests with a once in a lifetime experience. if you want to experience marine wildlife in their natural habitat this is the place to go! The entire place was really nice and clean and the staff were extremely polite and helpful. The beach was beautiful and quiet which was exactly what we were looking for. Their prices were very reasonable for the experience you get. We will definitely be returning here on our next trip to Freeport.Written 12 November 2019
- KimberlyG16020 contributionsFantastic ExperienceSuch a beautiful place! Barry, the owner was informative, friendly and very safety oriented. You can tell he takes great pride in conservation or marine life. They had only been open for a week or so from the hurricane that devastated much of Grand Bahama but he had already completed a ton of renovations to his property. We saw maybe a dozen turtles, some rays and tons of fish mostly in the reef balls he has had installed on the property. overall 10/10. Thanks for a great day Barry!Written 28 October 2019
- daryl r0 contributionsLove itThis place is amazing. Barry and his family, staff were so friendly. Next we will be renting out their villa and stay for a week or two!!! Highly recommended this place for your next Freeport visit!!!Written 24 October 2019
- trucktripper70 contributionsWhat a scam! This place should be called "not-paradise cove" The water is gross, you have to trudge thru 200 feet of slimy ocean floor to get to the so-called man made reef. The facilties are sub-standard and they charge for evreything except the mud. We love the Bahamas, but this place was not worth the 80 dollar cab ride(4 guests) plus the 18 dollar entry fee to use thier crappy facilities. We felt completely scammed and would have stayed on our cruise ship if we knew what we were getting into. The beach was 30 feet long and had murky/mucky water. The food and drinks were super high priced and the staff was only there to remove cash from your wallet, not provide paradise quality service. Avoid this place at all cost, not a place to take the wife and kids. We did not even see a single fish in our much abbreviated stay, what a waste.Written 16 August 2019
- aprildiFL0 contributionsGreat snorkeling! Don't expect "resort" amenities.PROS: BEAUTIFUL REEF. The Paradise Cove personnel clearly love the reef and have taken great measures to take care of it and preserve it. They have placed hundreds of artificial reef rocks under the water for the fish. They gave an excellent safety briefing with great directions for where we should swim to see the most things. We ended up swimming with sea turtles, seeing hundreds of colorful fish, seeing two barracudas, and seeing a sting ray. And it was close enough to shore for my 6 and 8 year old children to swim with us without having to take a boat out! We loved it! CONS: The website does not have a price list clearly posted. Also, the email address on the website is inoperable. On the upside, when I contacted the company through the Facebook I was contacted quickly. Since the website does not itemize the prices, it is hard to see before you arrive how you will have to pay for every little thing that is normally included in a place like this. Be prepared to pay $6 to sit on a beach chair! I’ve attached a photo here that I took of the price list while I was there. Even though the all-inclusive package (see the price list I attached) includes things like beach chairs and use of items like kayaks – I don’t recommend it. For the beach chairs, there is zero shade on this property. You’ll be laying in the sun no matter what. For the kayaks, you can only take them in a very small shallow area that is cordoned off (presumably to protect the reef). You might as well only pay for the snorkeling and save your money. Just know that you don’t get *anything* other than the ability to snorkel. We were picked up from our hotel 35 minutes later than we were told – without any communication telling us they would be late. The hotel told us that the Paradise Cove folks often need to be called and reminded to do a pickup. What?! The driver told us he was late because he took passengers from a Carnival cruise over to the site and then they changed their mind and wanted to go back to the cruise. What?! (1) Did they change their mind because Paradise Cove has ZERO amenities? And (2) Why does them changing their mind mean that other passengers are not picked up on time? In hindsight a taxi would not have cost any more than the $20 per person for their shuttle, and at least I could have come and gone at my leisure.Written 12 August 2019
- 924rhondaw0 contributionsPerfect location to stay for experienced or non-experienced snorklersWe stayed for seven nights in mid-July. I recommend getting a car at the airport so you have access to all of what the island offers. The two 1 or 2 bedroom units are selcuded from the rest of the resort but close enough to enjoy the snack bar, souvenoir shop and beach equipment. Barry and his staff took excellent care of us and the rest of our family who visited for a day from another resort. The resort can be busy since it is a popular excursion destination when the cruise ships are in port but we had the resort completely to ourselves in the mornings, late afternoon and evenings. We enjoyed swimming with the sting rays, turtles and game fish closer to shore as well as usual reef snorkeling experiences further out at the reef. Barry and his team take pride in educating visitors about how to protect the reef so I would expect this to be an great location for years to come.Written 30 July 2019

We visited Paradise Cove in July 2023. I would have given this a “very good” review had it not been for the transportation to Paradise Cove from the cruise port. I do want to point out that our driver was amazing and my complaint is not with him at all. We were told to meet the bus one hour after the ship docked in Freeport to leave for Paradise Cove. This would have been 9:00a.m. We were on the bus before 9 but there was a party of two that hadn’t arrived. This party finally arrived about 9:20am. But instead of being a party of two it was a party of 14. Someone had made a mistake when they gave the driver a list of passengers. The driver (upon instruction from his supervisor) had children ride on the laps of their parents in hopes of getting everyone on board. They squeezed 9 out of the 14 on the bus and had the remaining 5 ride a taxi to Paradise Cove. ( This was paid for by Paradise Cove) We finally left about 9:35am and got about five minutes down the road when the driver received a phone call to return to the port to pick up more passengers. We returned to the port and the driver realized there wasn’t enough room on the bus and had to get a taxi for that group. We left the port again about 9:45 and arrived at Paradise Cove about 10:00am.
I will say the rest of the day went smoothly and we enjoyed our day of snorkeling. They have a great reef to snorkel out to. We saw several beautiful fish along the way. We chose not to go beyond the reef where we could have possibly seen larger sea life as we were on our own and we felt that was beyond our swimming expertise. I wish there had been a guide to take us out and I might have been brave enough to explore further. On the way back in we did see two large sea turtles and that was very cool.
After snorkeling, we ate lunch (this was a $9 add on to the $50 fee). For the $9, we got a drink, sandwich and fries. The food was good but honestly I think it should have been included in the fee. We also had to pay extra for beach chairs and umbrellas. The staff was very friendly and the safety briefing before snorkeling was very informative. If you are not planning to snorkel though, I would hesitate to go here. The water is pretty rocky so you will need water shoes. There isn’t much else to do rather than snorkel. There might have been a volleyball net but I didn’t see it but also wasn’t looking for it. I will definitely give it a thumbs up for snorkeling though.

Visited in late March. I can't believe this was the same place everyone has raved about. I even double checked the pictures posted here to confirm we were at the same place. Beach loungers were a joke with all of them needing repair, "beach" was all rock, everything was an "extra" charge and the word Paradise needs to be removed from their name (maybe people have a lower expectation of paradise after Covid). Place was a little rundown. Snorkeling was great outside the reef, where they don't recommend to go, only went there because there was nothing worth seeing inside the reef. Maybe these reviews were paid, mine wasn't.

We were on a cruise and thecruise line cancelled our snorkeling excursion due to lack of people. Wequickly booked to the Paradise Code with Pickup. They picked us up and droppedus off right at debarkation location. When we got off, we asked where the Paradise Cove was at, and the crew there pointed us to the right location and then thevan with the logo pulled up. It was a short drive out to the cove and after ashort brief we were off in the water. We had our own snorkel but used theirfins and weight belt. The gear borrowed was perfect for us.
We swam out to the reef and saw a couple turtles that werefeeding on the grass on the way out. They allowed you to swim up to themwithout concern. The reef was gorgeous with lot of variety of coral and fish. Wewere able to see sting rays resting and even saw a reef shark in one of thevalleys of the reef. The kids (teenagers) loved just watching the fish andenjoyed the reefs. The younger kid was not sure about swimming the reef, so shespent time swimming around the turtles and saw at least 5 different turtles allfeeding. Then we swam over to the reef balls that are present, the amount offish and variety here was astonishing. This was perfect for our younger kid asshe was able to experience the reef life without having to swim out to the reefor beyond.
After swimming back in, we relaxed on the beach with theamazing views. The kids then asked about getting a coconut from one of thetrees, and we were able to buy one and they cut it open for them to drink thecoconut water. After they drank the water, they pealed and served the coconutto us. This was a truly unforgettable experience and we will be back next timewe are in Freeport. We were returned to the cruise terminal with time to grabsome souvenirs for the kids and make it back on the boat with plenty of time tospare. Thanks for such a great experience.

Booked a snorkel only excursion scheduled for 8am. Transportation to and from. Transportation didn't arrive until 930, after we arrived and sat through a 20 min safety briefing we didn't enter the water until 1045am and had to be back on bus at 230. Would have loved to have experienced this beautiful reef and not feel rushed.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Food was good. Souvenir shop has decent pricing. Overall the best thing about this was the staff. I will be requesting a refund because this is definitely not what is advertised. There is no zip lining there is no water park there are no motorized water sports. The pictures do not show what this place really looks like. It’s like a totally different place that is shown on the pictures. I was totally disappointed. I feel as though I wasted my money. The pictures reflects all you get. The fried and grilled conch is just a bonus but I had to pay $9 for each.

This is a lovely place with lots to do for the day. We went here on excursion from our cruise port. The day pass allowed us to have access to kayaks, paddle boards, the beach, snorkel equipment. The pass also includes a limited lunch menu, but the selections are fine, burgers, hotdogs and snacks and drinks (that I can recall). We ordered off menu- choosing to try some conch and fish instead, so ended up paying for our lunch and using the lunch tickets for drinks and snacks for the kids. Everyone we dealt with was very nice. The only thing I would warn about is that the swim out to the reef can be arduous. It definitely requires a good swimmer and can take some time. Also, you need to be prepared to swim without standing or walking, so as not to destroy parts of the growing coral or touching the fire coral. This means keeping your body afloat, even when you need to rest or clear your mask or equipment. Once you make it to the reef, it is nothing less that incredible, but again the currents, waves and swells need to be accounted for. There are reef balls a bit closer placed there by the owner and are full of fish and sea life. I saw lots of fish and several sea turtles. In our case the water was cold for us, but on a warm day this place would be straight magical. The only complaint I could have is that the day went too fast. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone that is interested. We also had no trouble with transportation both ways- they picked us up and dropped us back off at our port with plenty of time to get some light shopping in and be back on our boat on time.

My wife, daughter, and I enjoyed this excursion while in port on a cruise. Barry was very easy to work with; communication was easy with prompt responses to email communication, clear instructions, and great service on the day of the excursion. Transportation to and from the port by taxi was timely and the driver courteous. The facilities at Paradise cove are not fancy but are comfortable and adequate. There is a snack bar/lunch counter with burgers, chicken sandwiches, conch fritters, etc and a bar with reasonably priced tropical drinks. Their "Bahama Papa" was really yummy and the mango daquiri delicious and generous. There were covered eating areas with picnic tables overlooking the beach. The beach was very nice, with little development on either side making the area a great escape from the crowds. We walked along the beach to both sides of Paradise Cove, and were the only ones on the beach along here. We rented chairs and umbrellas, and planned to kayak but it was too windy. The day of our visit, the winds had kicked up enough waves to make the water murky. I imagine the snorkeling is great when the seas are more calm. They have created an artificial reef of concrete balls with holes to shelter fish, and there was a good number of fish in and around this area in shallow water, so even with the murky conditions a large number of a limited variety of fish could be seen. I'm sure the number and variety of visible fish is much greater when the water is more clear. Several people in our group saw stingrays, and if you swim out to the natural reef further out there were many turtles. We greatly enjoyed sitting on the beach looking out at the beautiful turquoise waters and watching waves crashing on the reef. It was a great excursion.

This was the most amazing experience! This was my very first opportunity to snorkel and I was so nervous. Barry, the owner, was our guide. He was so informative and explained everything perfectly. He was patient and kind. He saw so many beautiful tropical fish, sea turtles, sting rays, jelly fish and one gentleman saw a sting ray. It was unlike anything I could have imagined. All of the staff were kind and welcoming. The gift shop had the most beautiful handmade items that were perfect souvenirs to take home and so inexpensive. I truly cannot wait to go back again. Thank you Barry for the most amazing first snorkeling experience! You and your staff were perfect!

I have mixed feelings for the day trip. Transportation, lunch, kayak, paddle board, snorkeling all for $100. The water was very shallow for snorkeling, fish were only seen out by the rocks. Too windy for paddle boarding for a newbie. We brought our own snorkel equipment. Kayaking was incredible and we saw about 5 sea turtles to the left of the rocks. The workers were a bit slow, but that could be my personality. Paper tickets were issued for equipment, and I think wristbands would have worked way better. Water was beautiful, the island isn’t very developed so you need to do an excursion here.

Driver was excellent, but staff at the venue ducked. We provided our own snorkel sets (which would have been included) and asked for a towel. The answer was NO. Wanted to purchase a couple of beers, but $20 minimum and could not add a t shirt or gift to reach that number. In the end we remained thirsty. If not of the driver, this venue would have been a complete failure!

Interested in the “Snorkel Only” cruise ship….
Little confused on IF transpiration is included to/from cruise port due to other folks comments… also, what are take back time/times? …. please clarify
Also, can food snd beverage be purchased on your own if you purchase snorkel only…?
And are chairs/umbrella included?
Thank you for your time😎

It was all great. Mr Parker picks you up - we did tip him- but that is optional. We took our own snorkel mask but used their fins. It was the best thing that we did. We Ordered fried conch and sodas but that was optional as well. Would do it again!

Is there an excursion through Carnival that goes to this beach? Going at the end of September so trying to figure out whether to book with cruise line or seperately!

I honestly don't know about Carnival, but from being an experienced cruiser I can tell you that any excursion you do through a ship is going to cost about double from just taking a taxi and paying park admission for $4.50. At that price food, drinks, chairs and snorkel equipment are extra. A great piece of advise is if you plan on snorkeling anywhere, bring your own, quality equipment from the USA.

Two things....Do buses leave frequently to take you back to the cruise terminal? If so, what is the schedule? Or is there just one at the beginning and one at the end of the day to take you back?
And if we arranged our own transportation, can we just show up the day of and be able to use the beach and snorkel? Or must everything be booked ahead of time?

We have been here 3X and we took a taxi out each time for $10/person round trip. Our taxi driver stayed with us the whole day 2 out of 3X. We are on another cruise in a couple of weeks and we will go back with family and friends because we enjoy it so much. We just hail a taxi, explain what we’re doing, and they took us with no problem.

I agree with 233DougR. I didn’t notice if the van could accommodate a wheel chair. But I called with a question and they were very nice and helpful.

Is there contact info for the company? If I do the snorkeling package, do we get to use the beach?

Trip Advisor won't let me post a direct link to the web site but you can find contact info by visiting deadmansreef web site.
And yes, you get to use the beach if you pick the snorkeling package. It's a nice, small uncrowded beach, great for sunbathing, reading, or sipping a drink. At the water's edge there are some rocky areas due to submerged coral that becomes exposed in places at various tides so keep that in mind if you decide to roll around in the very mild surf. :-)

When I try to book the snorkel cruise package, it doesn’t ask any cruise information only hotel pickup? Also, what is the last departure time from beach back to cruise?
Written 26 May 2019
The last bus back to the cruise port is at 4pm. It’s about a 25 minute ride.
I see the cruise port pick up option on my iPad. If you are on a mobile device you might have to scroll to see it.
On the iPad, hotel pick up and cruise ship pick up are side by side.
