St Maarten Shore Excursion: Island Sightseeing Tour from Philipsburg
USD 44.00
Overview
Explore the quaint towns, sunny beaches and local food of St Martin on this 4.5-hour shore excursion from Philipsburg. Get to know the French side (St-Martin) and the Dutch side (St Maarten) of the island with your local guide. Learn about the European cultural flavor and the divided colonial past of this small tropical island. This outing is covered by the Viator worry-free shore excursion policy.
What to Expect
Meet your local guide after your cruise ship docks at Philipsburg's port for this St Maarten shore excursion. This divided tropical island, only 37 square miles (60 square km) is shared by the French and the Dutch and has a fascinating colonial history.

Head for the island's north end, to Grand Case Beach. Take a walk down the sugar-white sand shore and wade into the calm, warm water. After some time relaxing on one of the French side's most famous beaches, walk into the town of Grand Case, known as the Caribbean's gastronomic capital. Sample a Johnny Cake, a fried cornmeal pancake that's a local specialty (own expense,) or sip some guavaberry punch made from the island's berries (one drink is included in the tour.)

Travel to the capital of St-Martin, Marigot, and stroll the colonial streets to the bazaar. Fevel in the Gallic atmosphere before heading for the Maho Beach on the Dutch side of the island. This beach is famous for its proximity to Princess Juliana International Airport. Hit the beach to watch as jumbo jets go roaring over your head.

Drive past the white sand, blue water and bustling marina of Simpson Bay on your return trip to the cruise port. Request to be dropped off in Philipsburg town if you'd like to spend some more time shopping and exploring. If so, please note that Viator's worry-free shore excursion policy no longer applies. Please see Additional Information for details.

First time visit

I have had many friends visit there pre Hurricain Maria. Even after the storm.. it is coming back, the people still need all the help they can get.. Very beautiful...

Complete Waste of Time and Money

First off, the entire island should be bulldozed. Talk about your dilapidated places, cruise liners should seriously consider skipping St Maarten's altogether. That said, our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable. We went to Grand Case Beach (covered lounge chairs - $15 rental charge) -...More

Awesome Tour and much better than booking through Cruise line.

I booked this tour independent of my cruise company. Simply put, it was great! Our tour guide, "King David" as he affectionately referred to himself, was wonderful from start to finish. My tour began on-time and we (tour group) headed directly to the French side...More

Great Tour. Great Guide!

This was my first booking of a shore excursion not from the cruise ship. I was a bit apprehensive at first, but I realized that I didn't need to be. The guides were so helpful and appreciative. We knew that there would be devastation following...More

I believe we had about 25 on our bus. The number may vary depending on time of year and the number of ships in port.

Yes, @Retrogal84, the vehicle was air-conditioned. And, the windows were operable so that you could open them to take great photos while moving. I'm not sure that all of the companies vehicles are the same but, my tour bus... More
