About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Simon F0 contributionsP&O Deep Sea Rip OffUninspiring, this was my first trip the captain gave a speech about fishing not catching but then did not speak through the entire 3.5 hours the first mate was clearly new as the captain looked mainly disappointed with him. No explication of what we were using how we were fishing just…. Sit in the chair for 10 mins in turns there were 6 of us and I sat in the chair 2 times 20 mins fishing for £180. I don’t care about catching but at least make it fishing. The speech should say “waiting not fishing” Such a shame as it could have been fun even without catching. We then gave up and headed back with 45 mins to spare. Waste of moneyWritten 1 February 2025
- Cachorn0 contributionsFishing with friendsThe captain and deck hand were nice but I was disappointed when they took us back to port 45 minutes early. Not sure if it was because we weren’t catching anything of the captain had a date but we only got about 3 hours of fishing in.Written 16 January 2025
- 495sarinas0 contributionsProfessional & Fun!Our family had an amazing time fishing with Tony & Howard from Captain Mike's! The boat was nice & spacious and we all took turns in the captain's chair. They were great guides and with their help, we were able to catch 2 Mahi, 1 Rainbow Runner, and 1 barracuda. They fileted the Mahi & Rainbow Runner perfectly, making for delicious eating the next few days. We will definitely go with Captain Mike's next time we are in St. Lucia!Written 7 September 2024
- SurreyMartinb0 contributionsRuns , rum , fun & sunshineBig up Tony & Howard … these guys worked so hard to get us on fish 2,5 hours in still no sign of fish , so we started to crack open the the rum punch ( not for the faint hearted ) …. Magic stuff this ! Before we’d finished the first glass “whack” the first hit of the day and my biggest wahoooooo ! 6 hits 5 fish landed few barcuda & wahoo ! 3 of us on the boat was felt right Good job guys I do recommend 👏👏Written 3 February 2024
- 242kelliec0 contributionsDeep Sea Fishing funWe took the 1/2 day excursion leaving the resort around 7:30 am. Weather was perfect. Water was beautiful. Staff were very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend this excursion!!Written 9 January 2024
- Shareljia0 contributionsEnjoyable excursionTop notch whale watching excursion. My party of seven enjoyed the pod of pilot whales we saw. The music, rum punch, and conversation among travelers was great on the boat. This was my second year in a row visiting St Lucia and doing this excursion. It never gets old. So peaceful and serene on the water. Note: Wear sunscreen! It’s hot. The sun is unforgiving and there’s not much coverage from the elements.Written 5 January 2024
- Departure112723976750 contributionsAVOID!As with many other reviews on here, you’ve been warned. This was by far the worst “fishing” experience of our lives. We booked through Sandals and were really looking forward to it because we had heard about the great fishing in St Lucia. We are experienced sport fishermen have fished up and down the pacific coast, the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Florida. The typical “this is fishing not catching” lead off the trip. There were 8 on the boat + captain and mate. The seas were so rough! 2 passengers were so sick they could barely hold there heads up. It was the worst boat ride we had ever been on. The exhaust fumes from the motors were intoxicating amplifying the unpleasantness of the ride. As far as fishing goes, there was no rhyme or reason to the method. The set the bait and then took off trolling for the next 3 hours at the fastest trolling speed I’d ever experienced. There is no use of electronics or tech to try and locate fish. You basically are just driving around hoping for the best. Your personal fishing experience is your 10 minutes in the chair hoping you may get to reel something in. It didn’t seem to matter whether anyone caught anything or not. Not one passenger on this boat was smiling. The captain later shared with my husband that fishing season basically ends in October…would have been nice to know before we spent the $400.Written 5 January 2024
- K8345YBjenniferh0 contributionsDwight and Lance are excellent guides. We had a great time fishing with Dwight and Lance. The day was beautiful and seas were calm. Everyone on board caught something - 3 barracuda and 2 wahoo. Call Captain Mike's and ask for these two.Written 28 December 2023
- Passenger558234382420 contributionsVery enjoyable morningFantastic trip. Everything perfectly arranged. Snacks and drinks available. Staff very attentive and had information about the school of Frasers dolphins and the 5 Sperm Whales we sawWritten 16 November 2023
- connorh9010 contributionsHighly recommend whale and dolphin watchingFantastic trip with Mikes tours! We done the whale and dolphin watching and I will say we were very lucky to see both!! We were so lucky to see at least 6 sperm whales close by and even! One jumped out of the water! Also managed to get to see loads of dolphins that came and swam along the side of the boat! The captain and crew were very good and kept a good distance from the whales. Highly recommend this trip. I would look to get the pictures from the lovely couple with the drone footage. Thanks againWritten 15 October 2023
- CazzaJane0 contributionsVery worth it!What a fabulous trip! No sooner we’re we out of the harbour and we saw whales. We then found DOZENS of dolphins that we spent a really good half an hour with, it was incredible! The captain really knew how to act around them, we were quite, slow, calm, and then they raced our wake too - all in all - wonderful! This was our 2nd trip with CM and will most definitely go again next vacation!Written 14 October 2023
- nunger0 contributionsFishing Charter La TocWe had a great time fishing on one of the charter boats that Sandals La Toc partners with. Mario was our captain and Matthew was our first mate and they were excellent. They made sure everyone caught a fish (there were 8 of us) and had a good time. If you charter one of Capt Mike’s, request this dynamic duo! You’ll not regret it!Written 4 October 2023
- johnsO8820WD0 contributionsFish of a lifetime!Noah and Matthew were awesome. It was a hot, slow fishing day. So, when we reeled in a 300# + Bluefin Marlin we were ecstatic. Would definitely go again. Price was very reasonable as well.Written 30 May 2023
- danielledO7583CV0 contributionsDeep Sea FishingWe had a nice time out on the water for our 4 hour deep sea fishing tour. Unfortunately the fish weren't biting, however our guides changed the bait often and were very friendly and knowledgeable. It would have been a 5/5 if we caught something (which of course isn't their fault)-- still definitely recommend the tour. Bonus: we did see a pod of dolphins!Written 21 March 2023
- Josh W0 contributionsGreat memoriesJosh and the Captain were great, had a good day at sea followed by a 300lb Blue Marlin on the line for 1.5 hours. Amazing experience for everyone, we were knackered! Thanks againWritten 17 February 2023

Great, no frills outing. We were concerned not to go onto a "party boat" that might happen across mammals this wasn't so. These guys a serious about what they do.
We saw a large pod of Pilot Whales but not lucky enough to see dolphins.
We also saw a flock of seabirds catching flying fish.
You need patience as its 3.5hrs to catch a few minutes of action. Well worth it though. Wouldn't have missed it.

We had a few hours on "Free Willy" to find dolphins and possibly whales.
We were succesful.
The crew, which consisted of Captain Derek and Joshua, Kaden and Zana (Double chocolate) were amazing. They kept us aware of any sightings and kept us fed and watered with soft drinks and delicious Rum Punches. We also had some lovely bananas supplied.
When we did encounter a pod of dolphins and Pilot wahles, captain Derek kept us within a safe distance so everyone on board had chances to see all of them and even manage to capture some memory images on camera.
When we eventually turned for home, the crew entertained us with some spontaneous dancing which was delightful.
The trip lasted just over 3 hours and was well worth the time and money.

The trip was amazing, we saw a humpback whale and her calf, a pilots whale pod and 2 pods of dolphins feeding. The captain knew what was doing and keeping a safe distance for the whales, specially with the humpback that had a calf, making sure not to stress her. The crew was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this trip to everyone.

Wow. What an experience! To actually see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, felt so lucky! We were lucky to see hundreds of Fraser dolphins, pilot whales and so many flying fish!! Honestly was a beautiful experience! I will mention to anyone who may get motion sickness, please take something for it! I don't usually get seasick but the boat stopped for a short time for us to enjoy the waves of activity from our sea friends and my body did not enjoy the stop 😂 it didn't deter me from the experience, I was looked after but literally all on board and the lovely lady who was guiding us kept me topped up with ice chips which made me feel loads better! We had the best morning, would recommend to anyone who would love to see whales and/or dolphins - these guys know where to look!

The crew were absolutely lovely. However, some guests arrived half a hour late, which meant we were left waiting. We saw lots of dolphins but unfortunately no whales on this occasion. The crew were very knowledgable and gave loads of information about what we were seeing

Had a great time! Sat on the bow with feet dangling off with my wife on our honeymoon and had False Killer Whales swim right along with the boat. Captain Derek kept us near the Whales so they didn't shy away and they swam right beside and around the boat several times. They followed the boat for a bit and were calling out while RIGHT underneath our feet so we got to hear their clicks and whistles being only a few feet away which was awesome! Staff kept the complimentary rum punch, soda and water coming and were very polite, informative and all smiles. I was too busy being in the moment to bother with my phone but took some scenic photos. Very worthwhile trip!

Crew was great and friendly. March is not a good time to do this excursion there were no whales and the dolphins were not vert active. That being said if you want to see great scenery and a great view of the Pitons this is a great excursion. The crew gave commentary of different areas of the island as we sailed by.

We had gone on a whale and dolphin watching excursion when in Funchal, Madeira only one month before we went on this tour and we thought we knew what to expect. In Funchal we were on a large, quiet catamaran, there were 6 other catamarans and other boats on the lookout for dolphins and a spotter on a high lookout post on each boat. We paid one third of the price of Captain Mike’s tour and we had dolphins swimming around our catamaran for the permitted 15 minutes. A wonderful experience.
The price we were paying on Captain Mike’s tour made us think that there would be a sophisticated spotting system, using other boats in the area. How wrong we were. We got on Free Willy, which is a noisy, old, fishing boat. A 90 degree ladder lashed to the boat was the way of getting up onto the top deck. It looked just as difficult to go down to the toilet area, so didn’t try. The water was quite choppy and there was clearly no proper system of spotting, with two young helpers looking over the side when they weren’t doing other duties. We weren’t surprised that the only wildlife we saw were some flying fish. We basically spent three hours on an expensive, noisy boat trip to and from the pitons.
I wouldn’t recommend this tour. Save your money.

My husband and I were on a small boat with only 4 other passengers plus the captain and his first mate. As we made our way out to sea, I was skeptical of our chances of seeing sperms whales. The first match placed a microphone into the water and we all had a chance to listen to the whales. After traveling a bit further out, we saw so many sperms whales! Although they are not as large or spectacular as the humpback whales, we enjoyed watching them in their watery home.

Had a blast watching the whales and dolphins. Daughters were so excited to see so many of them in the ocean. The boat crew did a great job with providing information about the sea animals and their environment. Would highly recommend

Our cruise ship Arvia P&O docks in St Lucia around 7 on the 25th Feb. Do you think we would make 8am to the experience?

Is there a “season” or “certain” months where there are better chances to see more whale sightings (Like Hawaii is November thru April). We will be there in April. Antigua says their waters are over-fished so they don’t have a large population of either? Thank you!
