We organized a private tour with Beyond the Beach so that we could go at our own pace and pick our own timing of the tour. Our driver/guide Edouard was had lots of knowledge and narrated a lot of the trip with details on what we were seeing and tidbits about Martinique in general. We opted to follow the North Island Tour route so would also recommend this tour even if you book the regular small group tour. The stops were all decent with a drive through the rainforest, stops in St Pierre, a beach stop at Carbet and finally a stop at the Neisson Rum Distillery. St Pierre was really the highlight seeing what was called the "Paris of the Caribbean" until destroyed during the 1902 eruption of the Mount Pelée volcano.

Awesome experience. Picked up promptly at the cruise terminal by our guild Édouard and driver Moises. Private tour of island, beaches, distillery and iconic viewpoints. I highly recommend Leslie and her team. Really impressed.

When I booked our tour of Martinique, I asked Leslie from Beyond the Beach for one thing..... to see the Martinique she would show her family and friends in they were visiting for a day. She understood exactly what we wanted, and our driver Joshua delivered! From the ruins of St. Pierre to the river that crossed the roads in St. Joseph, it was a fantastic day. The drive through the rain-forest was magical, especially the stop at the Saut Gendarme waterfall. We even got a lesson on how to grow bananas (which they do a lot of down there!). And of course being a DOM of France means French culture and food, including fresh jambon et fromage baguettes from a small boulangerie that Joshua stopped at on the drive. Magnifique! We could not have chosen a better company for our tour!

During the month of March, I had the pleasure of chaperoning a high school trip to Martinique that was organized by Beyond the Beach, and professor Myriam Moïse of the Université des Antilles. Our students spent ten days in virtually complete French immersion thanks to the marvelous host families our organizers recruited for us, and to superb tour guides and instructors who stayed in French 100% of the time. During the day, our guides helped us to discover the vast geographic and cultural features of the island. The visits were varied, culturally rich, and immensely popular with the students. We saw Saint-Pierre, hiked in the Savane des pétrifications, visited the Grande Anse du Diamant and Mémorial CAP 110, took a pottery class and shopped at the Village de la poterie, discovered Martinique’s mangroves in les Salines, toured two distilleries, visited a grade school, and much more. At the university, students received invaluable instruction on the history and culture of the island, including a historical overview, and seminars on music and creole language. An unforgettable highlight of the trip was our participation in the Mardi Gras parade in Fort-de-France, guided by Beyond the Beach’s CEO Leslie Ferraty and her friend Laura. This amazing experience is generally unavailable to tourists because of the logistics involved. What a privilege to take part in this unique Martinique tradition! Another favorite activity was our Creole cuisine lesson with Mme. Prisca Morjon, a first-rate chef who is also a fantastic teacher. Our transportation was beautifully coordinated each day, and with our expert driver Eric at the helm, we felt secure and well cared-for. Students on the trip ranged in age from 16 to 18. All of them had good French skills, but none had spent much time in a French-speaking environment. Without exception, our guides, and the teachers of different workshops were highly capable and extremely attentive to the students' interests and comprehension level. They went out of their way to explain details that participants might have missed. When we surveyed our students after the trip, they were universally thrilled with their experience. The other chaperone and I, both French teachers, were equally grateful for this terrific opportunity. Hats off to Beyond the Beach for organizing the trip of a lifetime for all of us! Merci mille fois! We look forward to returning with a new group of students next year.

Thank you so much for your comment! We were very pleased to have you here and show you everything we love about Martinique with the taste, culture and customs! Your class was very interesting and interested so it was a pleasure to share our time and knowledge. You are great teachers very committed to French and to your pupils. Have a lovely day and see you next year!
