- sunilt9230 contributionsGreat learning for an amateur photographer with an iPhoneTaking night sky photos of Milkyway galaxy was on top of my bucket list, just did not know how to get it done. Collin helped me to get clear unbelievable photographs with my iPhone 15 Pro.Written 11 September 2024
- N2153LIlisam0 contributionsGreat Photo Tour of Arches National ParkColin was extremely knowledgeable about Arches National Park and put us in excellent locations for photo opportunities. He stayed out until 3 in the morning waiting for the clouds to clear so we could get milky way shots. I especially appreciated that he picked us up at our hotel in Moab, toured us through the park and returned us to our hotel at the end of the tour.Written 10 July 2024
- Elm1160 contributionsBeautiful sunrise photos. We highly recommend this trip. You have to get up early and drive in the dark to a meeting point, but you will be rewarded by the beautiful sunrise at the Dead horse point dramatic desert landscape at Canyonlands park. Colin knows excellent spots for landscape photography and shares professional tips for getting better photos. I also learned great deal from him about my camera, Canon R5 and its multiple functions.Written 3 June 2024
- CynthiaB2690 contributionsAmazing TourColin is an amazing teacher! Our experience with him was phenomenal. He is organized, well versed in photography, and a talented artist. He provided a camera settings guide which was very helpful for our astrophotography tour which allowed us to preset the camera ahead of time before going out in the dark! Colin has a great eye for composition and is able to guide beginners as well as advanced photographers. Best of all, he is friendly and engaging. I highly recommend his tour or class!Written 2 June 2024
- publicmatth0 contributionsArches at Night!Excellent experience! Colin knew the area very well and was able to provide some great suggestions for composition. A very interesting part of the world at night!Written 1 June 2024
- P2688WYcindyh0 contributionsA Perfect Photography Tour of MoabOur day with Colin of Rock Light Photos was wonderful! We captured amazing sunrise photos in Dead Horse Point and the gorgeous orange glow on Mesa Arch in Canyonlands. The early morning views at both locations are a must see! Colin also took us to photograph several rock art panels at Sego Canyon. This experience of seeing three different periods of petroglyphs and pictographs all in one area was fantastic. He knew just where to take us. He was very friendly and easy going. Colin was very knowledgeable of the entire area and took us to great photography locations. He also took us to several locations in the Arches for late afternoon and beautiful sunset photos. I would definitely do another trip with him! The pricing was very reasonable and we covered a lot of area. It was well worth it.Written 30 May 2024
- D7075UNjimc0 contributionsOne of the Best Photo ToursColin was not only an excellent teacher, knowledgeable of the best locations in Arches for both sunset and night photography, but an excellent communicator from my initial contact to set up the tour all the way through our return to the hotel. We both learned a great deal and took some very nice images. Prior to our departure, he provided guidance as to what equipment would be best to bring. The one thing that I wish he had mentioned (particularly as we already owned them) was a headlamp with a red light. We did bring red flashlights, but it would have been nice at times to be able to operate hands free (only an issue for a night photo shoot). We have done a number of photo tours (both single- and multi-day), both domestically and overseas, and this was one of the best. Thank you for a very memorable experience.Written 26 November 2023
- H1702KZjd0 contributionsGreat Fall Colors and SNOW!Amazing trip. Colorado Fall Colors. I never knew anyone could order up an early morning snow to set off the Aspens. Colin did!! and by the afternoon it was 65 and clear. Excellent technical and fundamental teaching in a non-judgmental way. This was my second trip with Colin and I then signed up for Crater Lake even without my wife's permission :) The group of people on the trip were fantastic and we all shared and learned from each other.Written 6 November 2023
- C5680IXbillyb0 contributionsExceeded expectationsReally enjoyed excursion. Thoughtfully broken into morning and evening sessions when light offered best photographic opportunities - Sunrise at Dead Horse Point and sunset in Arches. Based on Colin's experience took us to special, uncrowded locations and offered guidance/suggestions for memorable photographs. Did not feel rushed or linger anywhere too long.Written 26 October 2023
- B1168IHmartinb0 contributionsGreat photo guide & great photo opportunitiesPrompt friendly service. Very knowledgeable and experienced in the area and photography. Colin gave us great spots to take great pictures with lots of options in each venue we stopped. I would do it again.Written 24 October 2023
- Angela P0 contributionsReview of Sunset and Night Photography TourIt was a great session. Colin was kind enough to fetch me to and from my hotel, and provided us with snacks and blankets to keep us from the cold! Colin was also very helpful in guiding us on sunset/night photography. I enjoyed the trip!Written 21 August 2023
- petersL4823VD0 contributionsMorning Rock Light Photo Tour in MoabMy morning Moab tour with Colin Young of Rock Light Photo Tours was a wonderful experience of views and images. We started the day seeing the sunrise at Dead Horse Point State Park. I had long wanted to visit this place and it lived up to all my expectations. Colin knew all the places to be and what time to be there to capture special images. And along with his expertise in the use of natural lighting, he guided me on how to optimally compose my photos at each shooting location. We also visited Canyonlands National Park during the tour. I had been there before and had heard that Mesa Arch looks really nice when backlit by the sun's early morning light. I didn't think that I would ever get to see that, but I did thanks to Colin and I have some great pictures as well! After other stops to see and photograph the switchbacks of the Shafer Trail and the White Rim in the Islands in the Sky District of Canyonlands, our morning adventure ended with photos of petroglyphs on cliffs along the Colorada River. Thank you Colin for helping me create such vivid and inspiring images.Written 8 June 2023
- rxlaw0 contributionsBucket list experienceThe national parks in Utah are a sight to see, but stargazing in the parks is another experience altogether, and having Colin to guide us made all the difference. He knew where to go, and provided tips on framing the shot. He’ll sit back and let you do your thing or help you with camera settings (including the phone). His expertise and patience really shines when it comes to trying to capture the stars and Milky Way. In fact, he was willing to wait and wait and wait (you get my drift) in the hopes that the clouds would clear up so we could capture the Milky Way, It never cleared up completely, but we still had an incredible night time sky for a beautiful shot of Arches park at night time. Thanks for checking this off my kids’ bucket list, Colin! Tips: Bring dinner (sandwich/picnic meal - it’s a 6 hr+ event starting at ~ 5 pm). Most importantly, make sure to bring your tripod. Capturing the stars is impossible without one. Colin had a tripod to spare for the other group that was with us. I brought one but my son used mine.Written 31 May 2023

Colin was patient and provided great local knowledge as well as camera and photography knowledge. He was willing to give hands on advice with my husband’s camera. He told some awesome stories about the trail and when the light hit something just right you saw him get in his own landscape photography element. It was such a great experience we are looking at some of his other photo hike tour offerings.
We highly recommend this stunning photo hike with Colin as well as any others he offers!

Colin's passion for photography was evident from the outset and that transferred into Colin being an amazing experience provider. Though I have hiked the Emerald lake trail several times, my photos failed to capture the beauty of the area. I jumped at the chance to learn from a professional and Colin did not disappoint. Colin was patient while he walked me through optimal camera settings, he offered interesting locations to shoot from that I hadn't thought of, he broke down composition of photographs in a way that was easy to understand, and he taught me several "Pro Tips" that have instantly made me a better photographer. I couldn't be happier with the professional images we took that uniquely captured the majestic mountains and magnificent lakes of RMNP! I am looking forward to booking future experiences with Colin.

I’d love to do this but cost gives price for adults…I would have my four kids with me - ages 8,10,11 and 12. What is the price for kids? We don’t have a fancy camera but love hiking, scenic nature and lots of photos. Thanks! We could do this Tuesday or Wednesday if possible.
