Excellent 0 hassle way to experience the Sumo
Very well put together, you get everything you need to enjoy the sumo, from information on the history, rules and what to expect when you get to the area before you head over, to an English breakdown of the bouts you will see and a list of highlights/sumos to look out for. More expensive than buying tickets directly, but it's well worth the extra for the info, guidance and ease! Highly recommend.

Joe, our tour guide, was excellent! It was well organized and efficient with time to see a lot of the natural beauty around Mount Fuji, Lake Ashi, and Mount Komagatake. It was out first full day in Japan and was a good introduction.

The perfect way to tour Ghibli!
Maki was wonderful! Loved her friendliness and energetic personality, was super helpful in explaining the itinerary to us. Even gave us some local dishes to try, which we did! She went over and above to make it a super lovely day! Thank you so much Maki!

    Awesome experience!!
Our tour guide was fantastic and you could tell passionate about sumo. She was knowledgeable and very informative. It was an awesome experience that I don't think my husband and I would have enjoyed this much without a guide.

    Fantastic service and care
Our guide Mitsomi was incredible, she went above and beyond to make sure we had access to a wheelchair at each destination without any warning ahead of time. The tour itself was great for getting access and finding out just enough about the region. The best part of the tour was getting park access, lunch, and easy transportation.

    A Day To Remember
Apart from it being a long day because of Golden week holiday congestion it was a fantastic day. The tour guide went out of her way to make the day a success. The scenery was superb, and luckily for us, the weather was perfect, not a cloud in the sky. Mt Fugi did not disappoint, as did the Hakone area, which I thought was better than Mt Fuji

    Mt. Fuji at it's Best!
We had an excellent guide. The weather was great and the view on Mr. Fuji was exceptionnel. Twice, on the way, there were traffic jams so, the guide made some changes with the schedule and everything went well. The only thing that we did not like was the typical Japanese food for lunch which is not my favourite. The ropeway going over a steaming caldera, was amazing.

    Eh…
It was okay. Ghibli museum was kind of disappointing. I wasn’t allowed to take pictures with my tripod in the other museum which doesn’t make sense because a tripod doesn’t hurt anybody. I like taking my own pictures not having someone help me. And we were in the museum where you take pictures of the temples outside, so again doesn't make sense. Also, the food isn’t free. I was charged. It’s misleading that it says it’s included! I wish I could get a refund.

    Fascinating
It was the most special and definitely the most precious tour that I have arranged for my Tokyo trip. It has the three top locations to see the inspiration sources of Miyazaki. So happy to visit.

Tour was executed per advertised specs. Exception was the inability to drive up Mt Fuji to the Fifth level.
Tour guide very friendly and knowledgeable and english speaking. Gave us tips about Shinjuku and Shibuya which we visited the following day. Stayed with us after end of trip when we discovered one of us lost a phone and made sure that we were notified as soon as it was found.

    Flabbergasted!
This was our second full day in Tokyo and we were left speechless at times from the things we saw and visited. Perfectly guided by "Tommy-San" with his knowledge and humour we really enjoyed this trip.

    Ghibli Fun
It is good for the fans who love the art behind the movies. It kinda sucked because you cannot take any photos once you enter the building. I think ghibli park was more enjoyable with the amount of things to see/do especially for price and availability. Our tour was great being able to get lunch at this beautiful hotel and going to the architecture museum as well. The guide was great and very sweet!

We took this tour on Sunday 17 March on Bus #4 with Sunrise Tours and were very disappointed. Our guide was friendly but totally out of his depth. He lacked the ability to pivot to alternative options when the weather turned against us. Mt Fuji 5th Station was closed because of snow and had been for 2 weeks but we were not told until just prior to arriving at 1st Station where we couldn't see anything due to low cloud and wasted 30 minutes standing in the carpark. We were then taken to lunch, which was very good and the best part of the tour. On getting back on the bus after lunch we were told that we couldn't do the Lake Ashi Cruise and Hakone Ropeway due to high winds. Yes, it was extremely windy by then but it had been forecast and Bus #5 had already done this part of the itinerary as they went directly to the lake and ropeway after leaving Tokyo and arrived before the wind closed the ropeway. In the meantime we wasted 30 minutes in a carpark at 1st Station and at a mediocre museum along the way (an alternative venue). We were then taken to a cable car (one of the alternative destinations on the itinerary) but after arrival our guide then told us we couldn't get on it as "we had run out of time on our itinerary". At this point passengers started asking for a refund as it was mid-afternoon and the only thing we had done on our itinerary was eat lunch. After some discussion with passengers and with the intervention of the guide from Bus #5 our tour guide then agreed to obtain tickets for the cable car and we were able to ascend. After this we were then taken to Lake Ashi for the short 15 min cruise, even though we had previously been told it was closed. The shinkansen ride back into Tokyo went as planned. This tour was expensive and it is disappointing that it fell so far short of expectation. Sunset Tours really need to provide better training and strategies for their tour guides in the event of repositioning due to weather or other adverse conditions.

What a great day trip! Even though we could only go to the fourth station due to icy roads further up, we were fortunate to have a clear, sunny day so the views of Mt. Fuji were spectacular. Our tour arrived at 11am, which was good because the clouds moved in later that afternoon. The Lake Ashi cruise was sweet and thankfully they have seating inside because it was cold that day. The boat takes you to the gondola ride which was not a scary as I anticipated. At the top is a park with walking paths and more amazing views. When they say dress warmly, they mean it! We had winter coats and scarves but wished we had boots and hats. The wind at the top is relentless and the small gift shop has an ice cold cement floor with only a small space heater off to one side. The excitement continued with the bullet train ride back - it was a great way to end the day. The only negative to the trip was lunch. It sounded and looked nice, but you’re at an amusement park....very disappointing. All in all, a great day!

Thank you for joining JTB Sunrise Tours, Mt. Fuji and Hakone Day Tour. We're glad to know that you had a great day through our tour, especially for good weather. It depends on the weather condition if you can see Mt. Fuji or not, indeed. Besides, we're excited to hear that you experienced taking Japan's bullet train described "a great way to end the day". Seeing Mt. Fuji from the bullet train is also exciting! We hope you'll be able to experience it next time. We'll be much appreciated if you recommend our tour and look forward to seeing you again in Japan.

Whilst I admit the weather was bad in the morning which did cause delays you spend most of the trip on a bus. No time to explore. It is all rushed and the guide ‘Hiro’ made his feelings known when after two hours in a traffic jam we stopped for a break at a rest stop and a few people dared take a little longer than the 15 minutes allocated. The lunch location was terrible. Of all the places to go it was obviously a kick back location. The afternoon was a little better as the weather turned nice but it still only involved a 20 minute boat ride on the lake and a cable car ride that was mostly queuing. The minute you sat down after seeing the sight and having taken a few photos to relax and soak it in you were being moved on again back on to the bus. I would never do this trip again. Not enough time at sites. Far too long on the bus. Finishing up now feeling very deflated. And for $235 per person it’s frankly a long bus ride rip off

This was a great day trip from Tokyo. We could not get past Stage 1 at Mount Fuji so the itinerary was altered to include a trip to another lake. We were really lucky to be able to see Mount Fuji from various angles and it was a great experience. Lunch was good with some musical entertainment thrown in which was nice. The bullet train return journey was a good alternative to coming back by coach. All aspects of the trip were well organised and the guide Sue was really excellent and informative. I would recommend this tour to anyone who wishes a full day of sightseeing taking in some lovely experiences.

The audacity for the company to charge people and keep this tour on during bad weather is fascinating! This is coming from an experienced traveller…

Everyone wasted their money and most importantly time on a whole day of getting 0 view of Mt Fuji or Hakone. Also, 0 view during the Gondola ride of the other Mountain. Lunch was served called with very poor quality ingredients.

The positives were the drumming presentation and the Japanese female tour guide and the driver. They were such amazing people. The tour guide kept it positive and entertained us with facts about Japan.

This tour must be cancelled during bad weather. It is false and misleading advertising as a ‘Mt Fuji and Hakone’ tour during bad weather. We all literally were laughing at the title as we took photos of photos of Mt Fuji in the souvenir shops…so many people decided to not even go on the boat ride and just wait for the tour to end.

During bad weather, the tour should be called ‘Pay and See Nothing’. Where is our refund? For wasting our money and a whole previous day during our short Japan trip.

We feel ripped off.

Pros: We got very lucky in that the weather was fantastic to check out Mt.Fuji. Got to check out plenty of different shops. Bullet train ride at the end of the day was fast, and dropped us off at a good central location (Tokyo station). The lakes were beautiful

Cons: Seems like we were rushed at all the sightseeing areas, but spent longer time periods at shops. Long bus ride throughout the day.

Convenient one-day trip from Tokyo. Our guide was excellent! Informative, funny and welcoming, she made the trip extra-special. We visited Mount Fuji (station 4), did the Lake Ashi boat trip and cable car trip at Hakone. All were great and we were lucky enough to see Mount Fuji clearly for most of the day.

Lunch was good (we are vegetarian/vegan and there were plenty of options, just be sure to inform them in advance of the trip) and the bullet train meant we were back in Tokyo in plenty of time for go for dinner and drinks in the evening.

Highly recommended way to spend a day!

Thank you for joining JTB Sunrise Tours, Mt. Fuji-Hakone Day Trip. We are very pleased to learn that you really enjoyed and went very well everything your recent trip to Mt. Fuji and Hakone. As you may know, Mt Fuji is officially registered as a World Heritage site in 2013, and Hakone is one of the most popular for hot springs, natural beauty, nice view across Lake Ashi of nearby Mt. Fuji. We would appreciate it if you could highly recommended our tour products to others who wish to visit into Japan.

A long day tour from 8am to about 7pm but well worth it to see so much. Our guide Levin was very good. Knowledgeable about the areas we went to, funny, friendly and spoke good English. He made sure we all had a good tour and no one got left behind. We left Shinjuku on a comfy coach but be warned it has no toilet and it’s around a 2 hour trip to the first stop at Mt Fuji. Got our first glimpses of Mt Fuji from the coach on the way in and the weather gods smiled on us with a crystal clear day to see her in all her glory. Arrived at 4th station as 5th station still had snow. It was 4 degrees with a wind chill factor of 0! Spectacular views of the summit and surrounding mountains. From there we went on to a ninja village for lunch - an extra cost but worth it as there are no food shops nearby to buy lunch - and the photo ops from there are spectacular. Then on to the Sulfur springs, Hakone Ropeway and cruise on Lake Ashi on a pirate ship, loved it! A stop at the Hakone shrine then coach to the station. I recommend taking the bullet train option back at the end of the tour as it’s only 30 mins opposed to the 2 hours + on the coach in peak our traffic. A great tour. Highly recommend especially if you are short in time and want to see as much as possible.

Be careful when booking this trip we were charged double ( Australia dollars)
The weather was terrible so their plan B was totally waste of time. We went on an awful dirty boat on the lake saw nothing, only got wet. Then to an art gallery, unless you can read Japanese ment nothing to us. Travelled a long way ( over an hour) between venues.
Our guid didn’t wait for all the group to disembark off the bus and was gone out of sight.
We went to the 5th station which was good to see but the shop that we were told to go to was jammed packed with other tourists and we couldn’t see or purchase anything
On returning our guid took us to Tokyo station but then you had to find your own way. Scary!!!

I can see how this might be a nice tour but unfortunately we had a terrible experience entirely due to our "guide," Harry. He did not seem to be one of the usual guides. He spoke minimal English and seemed to understand even less, so we got absolutely no information or actual "guiding" about the points of interest. He literally pointed twice: "horse-racing track!" and "pagoda!" on the way to Mt. Fuji, and from time to time he stated the elevation we were at, and that was it.

He also seemed very confused about everything. The operators at the sites we visited seemed very frustrated with him, actually complaining to people on the tour that he seemed to not know what he was doing (e.g. not giving the correct number of tickets for the tram). When asked questions he pretty much just stated "I don't know." He did not allow any bathroom breaks at any point, so people had to leave the group to visit the bathroom and risk being left behind. He kept giving conflicting information about when we would be leaving places and then revising without explanation. Everyone in the group was so frustrated and angry with him by the time the tour concluded.

We were a family of three -- myself, my husband who is Black, and our son. Even after six hours together Harry continually thought my husband was part of another group of two people who happened to also be people of color. They were departing the tour for Kyoto and he kept grouping my husband in with them, assuming he was also going to Kyoto, to the point that we had to continually say, "HE'S NOT WITH THEM!" It was absurd.

Overall, I think it is a serious issue that JTB Sunrise Tours sent out a group with such an unqualified guide. It was cloudy and we couldn't see Mt. Fuji, but I was absolutely prepared for that based on the other reviews. What could have been a pleasant trip nonetheless was absolutely ruined by incompetent staffing.
