What to expect
  • Set out on the nature trail of Three Coconuts Pass, a 4-mile route that begins at the Belvedere Lookout, which you’re driven to after hotel pickup in Moorea by your guide. Enjoy sweeping views over the Opunohu Valley and its namesake bay below. Then set out on foot along a forested path of lush ferns and Tahitian chestnut trees. Learn to identify a range of bird calls and discover plants harvested for traditional cooking, fishing and Polynesian tapa cloth. It’s a steady climb to Three Coconuts Pass and the foot of Mt Mou’a Roa, but you’re rewarded with views of Moorea’s volcanic caldera and the distant peaks of Mt Tohiea, Mt Rotui and Mt Mou’a Puta, whose rugged peaks rise dramatically from Cook's Bay. Snap photos of famed hole that pierces Mou’a Puta, reputed to be the result of a spear thrown by a powerful deity. Admire these sights before you return along the same route, stopping for a refreshing dip at a waterfall. After about three hours of walking at a relaxed pace, rejoin your vehicle for the ride back to your hotel to conclude your morning tour.

Three Coconut Hike
May 2021
Pick up at the hotel made it convenient. Our guide was very knowledgeable about flora and fauna of the island. The views were spectacular and colorful fallen flowers covered the tropical floor. The hike was on the high end of moderate at times and would recommend walking sticks for hikers over 55. We hiked in May and the path for the most part was dry and we had good traction.

I booked this tour a couple of days ago. I received a message that it was paid for and confirmed. Today, I received an email saying that they can't do it tomorrow, would next week be okay? There is no way that I can find to contact Trip Advisor about it. I am afraid that I have now waited too late to be able to schedule anyone to take us on this hike. Very terrible service from this outfit and not very happy with Trip Advisor either. I will think twice about booking through them again.

Awesome Hike!
Nov. 2019 • Couples
The hike was great and we learned a lot about the different plant species of Moorea. The views were absolutely amazing too! The hike was pretty moderate, enough to break a sweat but not too bad. Would definitely recommend!

Well marked trail from belvedere lookout. Follow the blue signs to a lookout that provides views of both bays and the south side of the island. Walk over tree roots and rocks, past tiny waterfalls, through a bamboo forest, and up switchbacks near the top. Fun hike that took us about 2 hours each way.

Challenging hike with excellent views
Without the guide this hike would be pretty difficult to navigate as the paths make all kinds of twists and turns. Me and my wife have been hiking a couple times but by no means are we experienced or barely moderate hikers. The hike itself is challenging but well worth I would definitely consider this a moderate hike. There are exposed roots and rocks to climb over constantly going up and down terrain. If it doesn't rain the hike would be much easier but for us it had rained a bit. Our shoes and legs were pretty muddy at the end but nothing we didn't expect. Our guide was great, he was very knowledgable stopped to take breaks and wait for slower members of the group and he constantly switch between English and French to cater to everyone I'm our hiking party which was awesome. The view at the top of the peak is phenomenal and well worth the trip.

Extremely Challenging
I booked the hike as the description on Viator was “moderate” hike. “Moderate” was nothing short of a complete lie. This was the most challenging and dangerous thing I have ever done. The trail is covered in exposed roots and steep rocks. It did rain the night before so everything was covered in axel grease. 10 minutes into the hike the elderly couple in boat shoes bailed and waited for us at the bottom 4.5 hours later. One portion of the tiny trail had washed away and there was a rope that you had to Tarzan your way over the drop off to get to the other side. The view at the top was cool but I was a little exhausted to appreciate it. Without the guide it would have not been possible. As a side note, my wife is a marathon runner and I am in pretty good shape. If you are an extreme hiker, this is for you.
