About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- Tourist635742156760 contributionsBus trip from HellNot so much a tour more of a nightmare bus trip from hell. I understand that the lights might not be visible but you expect a tour guide to entertain you on your trip and describe / explain the experience. Our tour guide didn’t talk to us, the bus sat in silence while he pulled over numerous times with no explanation as to what he was doing. A truly terrible experience and one that put us off attempting to see the lights for the rest of our stay.Written 3 November 2024
- 959jenni0 contributionsLife changing experienceAmazing ice cave experience. Stephan was a great guide. Made sure no one was a left behind. Had a great time and would highly recommend.Written 3 November 2024
- coleenn4010 contributionsExceeded Our ExpectationsWhat an amazing trip around Iceland with our top-notch guide, John. The tour included a nice variety of activities that were truly once in a lifetime—seeing the northern lights, a glacier hike with crampons and ice axe, thermal pools (including a cold plunge🥶), and so much more. The hotels included a nice variety of those in small towns and those out in the isolated countryside—all clean and comfortable. John was knowledgeable, entertaining, and kept us safe while driving on the slippery and ever-changing road conditions. I will recommend this adventure to family and friends and look forward to visiting Iceland again!Written 3 November 2024
- Christina Y0 contributionsIce Cave and Glacier walk(Troll)We only visited one walk-through tunnel(“cave”) and majority of time was walking on glacier with about 5-10 degree inclines. We saw other tour operator fetched their participants in 4x4 vehicle all the way to the front of glacier tongue whereas we hike for more than 1km to get near. The highlight of our tour was the guide (Gerald) was very experienced and super patience. The weather was brilliant on the day we visited hence the whole tour experience was great.Written 3 November 2024
- twinner660 contributionsAstonishing auroraSince the weather conditions were good, we were lucky to see aurora clearly. Our guide of Troll expeditions, seemed to know what he was doing and drove of us to three spots. The 2nd turned out to be the best one. He also took nice group and individual pictures, he shared via qr code. At the end there was hot chocolate, to get a little warm again. Really nice and well organised experience with pick up and dropp off from a spot near our stay.Written 3 November 2024

I’ve no idea how Icelanders are like until we met Rocky, warm and funny, well survived in the north land. Also he has well organized the time, we had always arrived the destinations with the perfect time, sunset and sunrise, a perfect guide, also he offered us the opportunities to record the surprises of the way back home. - X6094QCm_nicas0 contributionsGreat tour!We had a great time discovering new places in Iceland! I don’t know how our guide, Rocky, scheduled perfectly each stop with the sun light in order to make amazing photos. He also has turned what could have been a long car trip into a really fun trip with great music chosen for every special stop and activity. Regarding the glacier, Elena did a great job teaching us how to do the hiking and making sure that everyone was fine! I really recommend this tour and specially this companyWritten 2 November 2024
- N9512PTtiffanyh0 contributionsAmazing experience with Troll and tour guide JohannI joined the 8 days tour on 20 Oct 2024 with my other 5 friends and the tour was really amazing! Professional tour guide Johann and excellent tour planning from Troll! I have my bucket list checked- I did glacier hiking, whale watching, ice cave tour, experienced the hot bath etc during the 8 days! Everyday was amazing and never get disappointed when we returned to the hotel at night! No safety issue as we were all the time accompanied by professional guides - during the glacier hike, ice cave tour etc, the guides had provided us necessary equipments to protect ourselves; and they were well aware of the physical conditions of every members. They never rush and just guided us at our pace. Last but not least, Johann have had made the trip very memorable! He is humor and funny, very considerate and passionate about introducing his lovely country to all of us. His diving skill is superb, I didn’t feel unwell even though I read during the bus journey. Apart from giving us introduction, history and background of the sight seeing spots, he also introduced us good local music, snacks and food. He has great time management skills, he made extra stops for sight seeing and he managed to bring us to the sight seeing spots at the right moment so that we can see the stunning views. Ok ok, I might have written a bit long but I am really feel blessed for choosing this trip! Thank you Troll and Johann that you have brought us such a good travel experiences!Written 1 November 2024

- G4129SUrickh0 contributionsBest adventure ever because of John our driver and now friend.John was the best guide I have had on so many excursions around the globe. He was so knowledgeable about Iceland. He was fun to travel with and was well prepared. The hotels were very nice to stay at. We seen the northern lights 4 of the eight days. I came here to see them without the use of a camera and was successful. The whole trip was amazing. What John really added to the fun was all his extra short stops and knowledge. I was impressed and would do it again. I booked this trip from reading the reviews. Ask for John as your guide you will not be disappointed.Written 1 November 2024

- davidkN7627EK0 contributions8 days of Iceland adventureAll 8 days were filled with great adventures and wonderful local stories by Johann. We did a lot of walking, the weather was cold, wet and windy but that's Iceland. Layered clothes keep us warm. Would definitely not ok with Troll again if we return to Iceland. So much to see and do but a lot was packed into the 8 days. The hotels were small but offered a good soft bed and breakfast. Lunch and dinner are not included, Hope your trip will be as memorable as ours was.Written 31 October 2024

Unfortunately we had very bad experience with Tröll Expeditions.
On our arrival day we lost my luggage with the shoes I was supposed to wear on the Ice Cave excursion. The trip was planned for the next day at 13.00.
As soon as I found out about the lost suitcase I wrote an email to the company to ask if another pair of boots I had can be fine. This was at 12.50 of the day before the trip. They said absolutely not, and we started an email conversation regarding the possibility to rent a proper pair. As they do not have a rental service at 13.35, I ask to cancel the booking.
They refuse my cancellation request saying that I was out of their 24 hours cancellation policy. We were writing each other for almost an hour!!! How can I join the trip if I don’t have the correct shoes? This is what we are talking about from 12.50!
At this point they wrote me that they checked again, and the local guide said that my shoes was fine and reassured on fact the I can enjoy the trip. At this point I was confused and doubting on their intention. Even more because the weather was very bad, we were in a snowstorm and indeed the next morning we didn’t make on time for the trip even if were 100km far from the meeting point.
I can understand that a company has a cancellation policy, but they can also be more flexible in particular cases like mine. I’m complaining because I lost 300€ asking for a cancellation due an unexpected event and while I was actually on schedule to do so.

We went on the Crystal Blue Cave tour and in the description was said the tour was arund 4 hours long. This was not true as from the Jokursalon till the Glaciar we needed approx 30 min drive, then we were 30 minutes in the glaciar and 30 minutes back. The information was not true and we have paid around 350€ for 2 persons for this. They have taken us to the cave and said that the other part of the cave just broke this morning (next day we realized they said the exact same thing to another group) so the experience was not complete and not very nice. The guide (I dont know his name) was funny, but the tour is not very good and I would not recommend spending money on it. On the way back, the bus we were coming with broke, so we had to wait for another one to come and pick us up. The tour on the glaciar lastet 30 minutes as I was having my watch counting the time.
Its not worth of money.

This tour is not worth the money, we had 13 people in our group and spent more time standing in the dark (headlamps off) waiting for other groups (4 others in total) to move through the cave. The tour started by one of our Travellers being berated (by the person checking everyone in) for using the step to enter the super jeep (very high step and no handle to assist with hop up) We were not given the option for the difficulty of hike we would like (as our tour guide was told by the head person what tour to place us on). The cave was crowded, and a hazard as we had to have our headlamps off whilst other groups moved through. The experience was not worth the money, they are all about making money and don't care about the experience. Our Tour Guide Orri was wonderful, he was the best part of the tour. Not worth the money.

I made a mistake on the booking and booked on the 10/10 instead of 10/11 and realized it only upon our arrival in Iceland. Obviously, my bad ! But we were still excited about the crystal cave and tried contacting them for a reschedule, partial refund or anything to make it work. Let me tell you, icelandic hospitality is as legendary as their elves. Cold answer, no solutions offered. I understand it is my mistake and that Iceland is living from tourism but these adventure companies have absolutely no consideration for their clients. You'll pay 50-100€ for a hot chocolate in a northern lights trip where you won't see anything and throw 300€ down the drain if you make a mistake in your booking. Don't expect too much from them !

Great middle-of-day trip of you're staying in or near south Iceland. Crazy nice scenery and the ice cave was gorgeous. The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the history of the glacier and the interplay with the surrounding volcanoes. The trip itself is about a 25 minute drive each was and a 20 minute flat hike to the the entrance to the cave. The rest of the time is spent in the cave itself. When we went it was shockingly warm (~47 F), enough to take off my jacket and wear just a t shirt for the wall back

My partner and I booked this trip last minute due to a cancellation of our planned activity. We were already headed to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon so it fitted in perfectly with our plans. We had a bit of trouble initially locating the right super jeep as there are so many different tours and jeeps in the car park. We were met by our wonderful guide Reynir (I hope i spelt it right) and there were 2 other couples joining us so it was a lovely small group trip. The jeep ride to the Glacier was great fun but very bumpy. Reynir had excellent knowledge about the area, the glacier and the ice caves - giving us some very insightful information en route. When we arrived at the ‘car park’ we were given crampons (for later use) and a helmet, then off we hiked towards the cave. The views were awe inspiring, and once again Reynir provided us with some more information en route. He was very keen for us to walk fairly quickly as we were the first tour group to arrive, so he informed us we would have a short period inside the ice cave on our own before all the other tours arrived! We put our crampons on and entered the cave. Wow!! I have never seen such amazing blue colours before, this truly is a special place to visit! We had plenty of time to look around and take photos (before others arrived) before we then moved on to walk on a bit of the glacier. Again, what another amazing experience. As the light began to fade we headed back to the jeep, and returned to the lagoon. What an awesome trip this was - feel so lucky to have experienced it, and glad our original trip got cancelled. Thanks Reynir

I was a little worried because some reviews said that the time inside the cave was too short, but the tour starting at 1pm was relatively relaxed and there was plenty of free time inside the cave (within the bounds of common sense for Japanese people).
At the meeting point, there was a toilet, a food truck with a hot dog stand, and a meeting point for the tour company, and we checked in in front of the truck with the tour company's name on it.
Thor, the conductor, speaks English very slowly and clearly. He is experienced and has a good sense of humor, and he made sure that each group enjoyed themselves slowly inside the cave.
After a 25-minute off-road ride, we entered the glacier cave.
After walking on the glacier for about 10 minutes, we entered the cave. We spent about 40 minutes inside the cave and returned the way we came, taking a break at a view spot on the way.
The tour was scheduled to depart at 1pm, but we left at 12:40 when all the members of the tour were present, and returned around 3:30pm.
There were 14 people on the tour, but thanks to the conductor's personality, it was a calm and enjoyable tour.
The walking speed is neither too fast nor too slow, and I think the tour is considerate of the elderly.

My wife and I booked a tour through Artic Adventures and operated by South East Iceland. It was amazing riding out in a massive custom built sprinter van through the rocky path of a receeding glacier. Our guide Bjork was excellent! She was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and made the experience fun. The cave was breath taking and the history within the ice was fascinating, layers of volcanic ash that could be linked to specific eruptions. Some people were under dressed, be aware with wind, in January it is very cold, make sure foot wear can support micro spikes and you dress appropriately. Overall 5 stars!

We exited the cave and 10 minutes later the cave collapsed and killed someone. I am absolutely traumatized. I am also very surprised how they would let us enter a cave that they had not evaluated for safety before. 10 minutes earlier and i would have died; i am a solo traveler that would have been so difficult to even identify me. Also, they said 2 people were trapped but really they miscounted and no one was trapped! How irresponsible and disorganized. I was not able to sleep that night thinking of those poor people “trapped”..also to put 100 rescue team people at risk searching for no one! Wtf.

It’s a scam…don’t waste your money,time and energy..
We were taken on the bus ride and on the foothill informed that the cave is unsafe n closed and we could go and click photos of the blue ice but can’t go inside.
It is an uphill trek with a little blue ice…there were groups which were taken showing the blue ice at the cave opening. Totally not worth it..
Were the company not aware of the cave being closed before we left? There was no intimation before we boarded the bus. If the cave was unsafe n closed should we not be informed in advance n money refunded?
Don’t fall for it…it’s a scam to take money.
