Followed up by sand boarding.

      Must do for port Stephens
Super fun for the kids and adults. We thought the highlight was the sand dune (which was great fun too!) But we love the beach part just as much. We got to have a squeeze of bluebottle, catch some pipi and watch how they “secretly” escaped.

Our family had a fantastic time! The tour guide was informative and interactive we really enjoyed the experience. They gave our kiddos (9 and 5) a certificate for sand boarding which was cute! They also took us to the beach which was clear and gorgeous on a sunny day. I recommend wearing socks and sneakers because the sand is very hot to stand on!

      Great family experience
It was an amazing experience being here. we went and booked and only had to wait 30 min to get on the tour bus when we were about to hop on they treated us to some water because of the hot weather first stop was the sand dunes the instructor (Craig) was really good at explaining everything and made kids feel comfortable it was really fun going out to the sand dunes after that we went to the beach to go see the pipis and Craig showed us how they go back into the sand and we got to see some natural coal from the ocean and floating rocks in the sea.

Terrible experience & Cheaters. Stay away from them
I am quite disappointed with their service today. I was suppose to attend 1 PM tour with my family of 4 and due to heavy traffic from Sydney to Port Stephens I was 15 minutes late and I was denied to attend the tour & completely refused for any rescheduling which resulted in the loss of my money. The approach of the person who manages this is very arrogant behavior and ZERO customer-centric way. He is only concerned about the filling his seats in the bus and making the booking full. Dont care about anything else. If you book with this company & are not on time you are going to loose your money & screw up your plan. BEWARE

Had a great time, airconditioned van, super knowledgeable guide (Frank), and what a blast flying down the dunes on a sandboard! Highly recommend this tour, there is a little cafe and toilets nearby as well. Highly recommend this one :) Thanks for a great time, Frank!

Massive Sand Dune fun in Port Stephens
Fun adventure. The 4WD’ing itself is a heap of fun bumping around the sand dunes :) We went searching for pippi’s and then safely watched them burrow back into the sand. Lastly we trekked up to the top of the sand dunes and had heaps of fun sand boarding down!! Great views from the top. Really fun experience. There are also some longer runs available for those who dare. Tour guide was nice and informative. A highly recommended activity for those visiting the Port Stephens area.

      Very bad experience!
Had a very bad experience on our trip last weekend! So we were booked at 10am but arrived 15mins late and went straight to the red shuttle from Port Stephens 4WD tours. Two old blokes were there and the one I talked to said we could not do the activity anymore because we were late, he said there was nothing he could do and if we want we can book for the next one which was at 12:30pm. We were like "what??" we wasted money for nothing?? And there even weren't any other people there how come the next available time was 12:30pm?? We didn't know at first what the rules were so we felt guilty and just transferred to the other available tour provider we saw (Sand Dunes Safaris, which was great and highly recommended! Shoutout to our driver Max!) which were available right away at 10:30am on which we paid again. After the activity we went to lunch and we revisited the FAQs and saw this text "If you are late or early, it's not an issue as our 4WDs rotate every 10-15 minutes (Sandboarding Adventure)”. We altogether were so pissed off!!! We wanted a refund so I filed for one which is still pending to this date. Hoping we get it cos that would definitely suck more!

Terrible customer service and very arrogant. We were 8 minutes late to the tour as we were lost. We informed them. But they said it’s not fair on the other guests. I am pretty sure the other guests won’t mind waiting a few minutes for 8 people. The guy at the counter instead of sympathising was very rude. No rescheduling. No question of getting any of your money back as the operator said he could have sold our tickets for $1000. Seriously who buys sand dune safari tickets for $1000? We managed to get a booking at the next door tours by paying the same amount of money as kids were very upset. I don’t understand how come one tour provider is fully booked out, but others are not. Wonder if it’s a scam reading other reviews. Info also says maximum 8 people per tour. If we were a group of 8, who were the other guests? Do not go to this people if you are family with little kids and can’t keep up with time as they don’t have any flexibility for families and they don’t care about customer service. I thought people have learned their lessons from Covid. Only one thing to say to this tour providers - Money is not everything. Enjoy spending the extra money you earned in the weekend.

Hi 183minip Thank you for taking the time to review your experience, every bit of feedback is useful to us. There are a few things to go through in your feedback so I’ll start with the 8 minutes…..you were in fact 23 minutes late to the tour, everyone is asked to arrive 15mins before tour departure for check in so you can receive your complimentary bottle of water, meet your tour guide and the other guests. The other guests were on the 4WD already for over 20mins waiting for you guys to arrive. Our office hadn’t heard if you were running late so we waited 5mins out of courtesy, any longer and it makes the rest of our day run late Regarding you being lost, on purchasing a ticket, everyone receives a confirmation email which has a Google Maps link in the ticket. This ticket is also sent as a booking reminder 24hrs before your scheduled tour, as well as a reminder text 3hrs before your tour. These reminders also tell you be there 15mins beforehand In saying all of the above, we understand it is school holidays so traffic can be an issue, which is why we send an extra text message the morning of to remind people to allow extra time for parking and if you are running late, to call our office and we can assist. All long weekend we had people running late, so we moved to people to other times if we weren’t not booked out. Not sure where you read only 8 seats per tour, if you find that again, can you please email it to info@portstephens4wd.com.au and we can follow this up. Our tours have 19 seats as the 4WDs we use are 19 seaters Other tour operators can take up more guests as they run a shuttle service, we provide a fully guided 4WD tour and Sandboarding experience where the bus and guide stay with you the entire time. Hence the timing schedules Again we are sorry you didn’t enjoy your experience with us and we hope you enjoyed your Sandboarding Adventure on the dunes while you were here :)

While booking over the phone one of the lady said we will only charge $10 for autistic kid but when we reached there the lady on counter argued saying you have to pay $30 for him despite we mentioned that he is not going to play and wont be able to leave him behind. But the lady on counter charged full price for autistic kids who was not able to play. Didn’t consider for him despite we were group of 17 with 12adults.
Didn’t have other options as others were fully booked.
Really disappointed with this and $30 for 5 years old kids really unfair.

Hi aviara5 Thank you for taking the time to review your Sandboarding experience, however I believe you have reviewed the wrong 4WD company….we do not offer $10 tickets and we do not have ladies who work at reception. We are sorry this happened to you, please contact the correct operator and I hope they can assist you I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Port Stephens :) Thanks

The beach and sand hills were beautiful after some light rain, and not too hot either. the tour was really well paced and interesting. We booked the 12:15 pm tour and were back by 1:40 pm.

Our tour guide/driver/instructor, Michael, is a star! He was super nice, experienced & funny, He showed us where to find the pippies (sort of clams), how they are protected yet can be used as bait if fishing. He also instructed us carefully on proper ways to sandboard and ensured everyone has a safe & fun experience.

P.s: Wear super comfy clothes as you will be covered with sand after a few slides :D

WE booked at the main office in Nelson Bay. The bloke behind the jump was usually a 4WD driver on the beach. he was an excellent ambassador for all things in the region, not just his attraction. Upon arrival we were met by Craig the driver and Holly. Very friendly welcome to all. We had some young visitors from Korea and Singapore in our group. The history of the region and the moving sand dunes was most interesting. Finding pipis was fun and educational. The sandboarding experience exceptional. We are in the over 65 bracket and the wife was wary to have a go. After encouragement from Craig and the other visitors, we both did the 100 ft slide. A young lass from Singapore filmed us and then air dropped it to our phone. I recently had a new hip and she helped me back up the dune. Fun for all ages. Highly Recommended for everyone.

The whole experience was really great. From the gentleman at the gathering point who was very helpful and patient providing all the details and information, to both Frank and Craig who were both our drivers at different points. They were extremely kind, informative and patient with us and the kids that were in our group. Highly recommend these guys as they seem to know their stuff and made the whole experience great!

We really loved this tour. The perfect amount of time for kids (1.25hrs) and a great mix of activities - finding pippis, learning about the history of the area and sand boarding. Our tour guide was fabulous and really informative about the local marine life and indigenous history. Highly recommend.

Beach & Dune package with Port Stephens 4WD tour is by far the best thing to do if you are in Port Stephens. Sand boarding is thrilling and fun, the entire 1 hour 15 min trip is well organised with a guided bus tour who would initially take you to the beach and let you snap some glorious pics. And then head on to the Sand dunes in the middle of the desert where you do the sand boarding. Simply loved the amazing experience. Highly recommended and thank you !!

Thank you so much Josh for giving us such a great tour at the beach and sand dunes. You are such an enthusiastic tour guide and just bring smile to everyone’s face naturally. Our kids were amazed by the beautiful nature in this place and they have been talking a lot about the sea eagle, whale, blue bottle and pipis they found during the tour. We also had so much fun on sand boarding and the experience couldn’t be any better this. Thank you again for making our day!

We had a really good trip through the sandhillsand onto the beach. We saw dolphins surfing in the waves and the guide showed us how to dig in the sand and find pipis. We watched them bury themselves back in the sand. It was cool.
Then we drove to the sand boarding hill and had a great time sliding down the hill until we were exhausted but happy. The guide showed us how to slide and to be safe and plenty of water was provided.
All up a fun trip with a good guide on a beautiful day.

My wife, daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our excursion with Sean. Riding the dunes was a blast and Sean made sure we knew where the biggest hill was. The information he provided on the dunes and beach was also very interesting. Good value too for almost two hours of fun. We look forward to doing it again the next time we are visiting.
