Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- OnAir528860491830 contributionsPatient and skillful coaches!Shiga Kogen was relatively quiet, and we have the entire beginner area to ourselves. Genaro was patient, and clear in his instruction! We managed to be feel confident about stopping, changing of directions in just three hours. Total beginners! :)Written 25 January 2025
- wojciechkI9630ST0 contributionsSki touring po po po ;)I would like to highly recommend this school. We did amazing powder trip with Rafal. He has big knowledge about area, and good tips how to ride freeride. I would like also mentioned that there is possibility to improve ski techniques in the slope. I would recommend that school to all my friends, who are planning to ski in Japan. Thanks very much for everything gays!!!Written 27 July 2023
- elisasC6332SB0 contributionsBest snowboarding school for international tourist!Adam is the best instructor, He is very patient with us! And he speaks english, yay! Built some endurance and muscle strength beforehand to fully enjoy the class as you will be climbing uphill (although short climb on the beginner slope, but still need some certain fitness) with gears and board. Leave the rest to Adam, he will teach you well. Take minimum 3 hours class to have decent skill if you area a beginner, and start as early as possible.Written 27 April 2023
- F5660JOjoet0 contributionsGood choice for who are visiting Shiga KogenIt is a wonderful ski-school. Rafal and Adam are very responsive and helpful. All my questions and enquiries are handled and replied timely. They also provided many suggestions/recommendations to us before and after our lesson. Rafal took care of each of us closely, especially it was the first time skiing for my wife. My wife enjoyed her first time ski with guidance by Rafal. She can basically ski after our private class. It is amazing. And she asked my to bring her skiing again next year. I will give a big credit to Rafal.Written 12 February 2023

- eduardoj1620 contributionsPowder on NaganoSome friends went to Shiga Kogen and we hire a guide company to look for powder snow. He showed us amazing places where each one made their own tracks. There were from forests to slopes with more or less steep. All with great security and with a very familiar treatmentWritten 5 February 2023
- pawe_c3330 contributionsSuperb powder snow experienceI have had amazing skiing experience with Rafal - an excellent guide. After pick-up in front of hotel, he has arranged my ski gear rental and provided with avalanche prep training. He knows every corner and every tree in Shiga Kogen. That made me feel 100% safe and comfy. We tried the best off-piste parts of Shiga Kogen and that was an amazing day. I strongly recommend to try powder snow experience with Ride-shigaWritten 4 February 2023

Our experience with Ride-Shiga was excellent. The online booking process was straightforward and they were very helpful with our email enquiries.
They picked us up from our hotel
In Yudanaka and waited while we collected our ski gear from the hire shop.
We had Hannah as an instructor for our beginners ski lesson, and she was so patient with our 7 year old who had several melt downs and was getting quite frustrated because he couldn’t master the basics quickly enough. Hannah was so patient with him and by the end of the three hour lesson, she had both our children (10 and 7 years old) stopping and turning.
We mentioned that we were visiting the Snow Monkey Park after our ski lesson, and Hannah offered to drop us there on her way back to Yudanaka. This made our day so much easier.
I’d highly recommend Ride-Shiga for your snow lessons if you are visiting Shiga-Kogen.

Fantastic experience having guiding with Adam and Aaron for a morning - making the most of my limited time in the resort. We were fortunate to have fresh, deep powder - ‘the best of the season’. Adam knows the resort like the back of his hand and picked out forest runs that were appropriate for my ability. Off piste safety gear was available to hire at a very reasonable cost. Adam also picked up at the hotel in Yudanaka and dropped off at the snow monkeys on the way back. I couldn’t rate more highly. Thanks guys.

Adam is amazing. Been riding for 2-3 season and had to pretty much re-learn from scratch to get rid of bad habits. The lessons were also fun and Adam is very knowledgeable with the mountain which makes him a very good tour guide to show you all the good runs if you're there for the first time. Was fun and will do it again if im there.

Utter disappointment with Shiga Ride - that's what I'll tell my friends. We had a patient and experienced instructor, Martin, on our first day of skiing. But our lesson on the 2nd day was cancelled abruptly. We had only managed to book two lessons for our maiden skiing trip. But a whatsapp message sent to us the night before to inform us that our second lesson was cancelled meant disappointment for our kids and basically a waste of our trip. There was no effort on the part of Shiga Ride to find a replacement instructor or slot in another session for us. We find their indifferent and couldnt-care-less attitude very frustrating and disappointing. The highlight of our trip to Japan was the skiing but this was all thwarted by Shiga Ride's message. All our planning, money and time spent on the trip cannot be compensated with just a cold message and insincere apology.

Hi San Yew,
I’m sorry for the disappointment caused by the cancellation of your second lesson. I completely understand how much effort goes into a family trip like this, and I regret that we weren’t able to meet your expectations.
Unfortunately, your instructor for the second day became ill unexpectedly, and as we were fully booked during the busiest time of the year, I wasn’t able to find a replacement or reschedule the lesson, even though I did my best - even our back-up instructors were already booked. I did try to recommend other ski schools, but I realize that this wasn’t the solution you were hoping for.
I know this doesn’t make up for the frustration and inconvenience, but I truly appreciate your understanding.
Sincerely,
Jan

To spend time with Ride-Shiga instructors in Shiga Kogen area is best choice for beginners, intermediate and advanced skiers as well. Specially for Adam and Rafal is Shiga their home playground. They know area better, than most of Japanese working there. They are the best choice for ski touring, and backcountry skiing. Thanks them I started to jump in park and feel more comfortable in backcountry areas.

Family of 5 (2adults + 3 kids aged 6-12) doing 1st time ski lessons. Our instructor Sarah was super patient with us especially the less cooperative kids. In the end we managed to ski down beginner slopes and had a blast in the amazing Ichinose ski area. Highly recommended. Pickup was also added to our lessons as we were staying at Yudanaka.

Amazing experience with these guys! Communication before the trip was great. Quick to respond to any questions we had which made planning easy. Adam was an excellent guide. He found us powder runs days after it had snowed and the local knowledge was invaluable. We would have never found that terrain on our own. He was also a super nice guy, fun to hang out with and he brought us to the best spots to eat while riding! He even dropped us at the snow monkey park so we could experience that too after riding. Thanks for making this trip an incredible experience! We will be back!

Superb, friendly atmosphere, excellent instruction and infinite patience and encouragement from Rafal. I would highly recommend Ride Shiga. We were all novice level skiers but we all improved our skills. Tha level of service was excellent too. We were picked up from our hotel in Shibu Onsen and taken to the slopes that best suited our abilities, so not too busy or crowded.
I have been involved in training, coaching and instructing for over 30 years so I can safely say that you will get excellent coaching with Ride Shiga. Thank you Rafal and Adam.

We have a family trip in Shigakogen. My daughter gets one on one skiing instructor. Her instructor is determined, skillful and very patient to teach my daughter 6years old. And myself had one on one snowboard instructor for 4hours. Ricardo is a nice snowboard instructor. Taught me a proper instructions, corrected me to a good posture. Encouraged me and he make sure that I am safe while riding snowboard. I felt more confident and my skill is improved to next level. Definitely recommended!
