About the operator
Don’t take it from us – here’s what people have to say about this operator:
- UGHWHYISLOLIDKTAKEN0 contributionsInteresting Historical backgroundOur guide’s name was “Mako” she was a very kind vigilant woman. She was doing constant head counts and making sure our questions were answered to the best of her ability. The Sumo sport itself is quite an interesting one. Although the traditions seem a bit arbitrary at first glance when they do it about 2-3 times before each fight, it’s fascinating to see how even in sports the Japanese culture strictly adheres to its ancient roots. I’d recommend this to anyone who wants to know more about the Sumo sport.Written 24 January 2025

- frankbR601XT0 contributionsSumo Tournament Novice to Pro!!Such a fun way to experience Sumo!! My wife and I were in Tokyo during the tournament and wanted to check it out. We had no idea how much we didn’t know about Sumo and the Shinto traditions involved. Our guide, Yoda, was such an excellent source of knowledge!! She took great care to go through all the details, from outside the arena to inside. She brought printouts of the match schedule and the wrestler rankings. Gave us tips to tell the wrestlers apart, west side vs east side, their tournament performance, how they move up in the rankings, how they make and purify the ring, judging, the envelopes of sponsor money, wrestler careers and retirements…. We were sumo pros by the time we left!!! Thanks so much Yoda!!!Written 23 January 2025

We had such a great time in Tokyo with Yuriko! She was a delight. We only had one day and she helped a diverse age group (child to senior) make the most of it, with something for everyone, from resolving an issue with our Suica cards and helping us navigate, to touring the Tsukiji fish market (we wouldn’t have known what to do without Yuriko!), to visiting the Meiji Shrine and ending the day shopping at Takeshita Street for the teen in the group.
Yuriko was full of fun facts and information, and was so good with the kids - even entertaining them on the subway by teaching Japanese and origami!
We enjoyed all our time in Japan - everywhere we went people were so friendly and helpful! - but this tour was a highlight.

Tak was lovely and flexible with our large group. We had 4 teens to keep entertained while the adults peppered him with questions. Moving from place to place did take a lot of time, and as the suggested highlights were far apart this does eat into the day. I'd recommend making sure you meet your guide somewhere close to the first site if you can to avoid wasting valuable hours being meet at your accommodation.

We booked this walking tour to acclimate ourselves, as first time visitors, to Tokyo. It definitely hit the mark! Yuki was our guide and was absolutely wonderful. She navigated us adeptly around Tokyo on the subway and highlighted the old and the modern areas. Yuki shared information and stories that made the day pass by quickly. She also gave us some pointers for eating out and general Japanese etiquette. There is a lot of walking and going in and out of the subways (sometimes very crowded) on this tour. Be prepared and dress accordingly.

We had a fantastic day on our walking tour of Tokyo. Our amazingly talented guide, Laila, shared her knowledge of each area we visited and provided us with opportunities to immerse ourselves in the culture as we explored the shrines, temples and streets and sampled the local cuisine. She adjusted the itinerary to suit our needs and continually checked in with us due to the exceptionally warm weather. Laila kindly waited in a queue for lunch at a restaurant and encouraged us to use the time to explore the area. She captured many moments on her camera and shared them with us.
Thank you Laila for an amazing day. We would not have been able to discover and learn so much about Tokyo without your expertise.

My family of 4 enjoyed a wonderful morning/afternoon with our awesome guide Tak. Tak took us around Tsukiji market to visit the various food stands. He knew which food stands to go to based on what we wanted to eat (sashimi, tamago, unagi, raw oysters, etc.). There is no way we could have navigated the marketplace by ourselves. I highly recommend Tak who was knowledgeable, funny, and energetic. Tak also took us to stands that sold tea, spices, and knew the owners so we could sample their goods. We stopped by a great market that sold dishes/bowls/cups and we purchased a few items that were very reasonable. Later we had a sushi lunch and walked around Ginza. I am Japanese American (understand only a little Japanese) and I would have been lost in Tsukiji without Tak. It is so important to make the most of your time so having a personal guide is critical. FYI, we have two teenagers and they also had a blast. Thank you Tak!

Great tour of Tokyo with a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who spoke perfect English. The private one day tour is actually quite good value for groups of 4+ people… not sure it’s worth paying extra for the customisable tour unless you have very specific requirements? We don’t usually follow the crowds and take tours but this avoids having to constantly look at guide books and Google maps while translating stuff… definitely a more relaxing way to get a taste of what can be quite an overwhelming city and see some of the highlights.

We only had one day for a visit, so we opted for the 7-hour tour of the must-see spots in Tokyo! Our tour guide, Kiki was knowledgable, patient, and very friendly. She showed us around and made every effort to share historical information at every stop. She was sensitive to our needs especially since we kept stopping to buy stuff. This is also one point that needs to be made: if you've never been to Tokyo, be mindful that you're not going to get through the entire tour and get to visit all the spots listed. You'll be stopping almost every 5 minutes or so to look at things and shop and this takes time away from getting to each POI. We suggest you take the 4-hour tour instead. Ask your guide to show you how to use the subway and download the app. Do your own tour for the reaminder of the day.

Our tour guide, Yeonmi was fantastic as our guide! She accommodated all of our requests as well as offered helpful suggestions on how to make our tour run more smoothly. She facilitated all of our orders at Tsukiji so that everyone in our group was able to eat what they desired without wasting any time. We were able to do and experience so much more in Tokyo because of this tour and highly recommend it. Also, Yuki who helped us coordinate and plan our tour itinerary in advance was so helpful with answering all of our questions so promptly.

We used Japan Wonder Travel for 6 days of private tours. We had 3 different guides: Tak, Keiko, and Kazumi. Each were very professional, knowledgeable and had their own insights to share. They met us at our hotel and showed us how to use the train system, pointed out shops and gave us insights to culture, life, and pain points to living in and around Tokyo. We covered a lot of sites and some of the most memorable were not what I would have expected. The two that stand out was origami and a tea ceremony. Both were courtesy of Keiko’s connections. It gave a glimpse of Japanese culture and art that was intriguing and memorable. Keiko even took the time to show us how to fold a crane. Tak gave us a very detailed tour of Tsukiji market including the new retail section. Asakusa was especially beautiful during sunset and again Tak gave a very detailed tour on the gates, shrines, and key points. Kazumi was knowledgeable and gave good perspectives as we walked through Yanaka. Keiko braved Shinjuku for us and pointed out the new rooftop park that is popular with locals. Would highly recommend this knowledgeable tour operator after 6 half day private tours spanning 3 excellent guides!

Regarding tour exclusions: do we pay for lunch, transportation and entrance fees for our tour guide, in addition to ours?
Written 27 February 2024
We paid for our own subway. The guide paid for hers. We paid for our lunch and the lunch of the guide although she offered to pay for her own lunch. We didn’t go into anything that had a fee but I believe, yes, you would pay for that as well.

Written 25 August 2019
The car was an additional $700 US dollars for 10 hours. On this particular day, the temp was 98 degrees with 86% humidity, so although expensive, the air conditioner was a worthwhile luxury.

Hi. We took this tour in April and it was customized completely, not just with the initial plan, it was tailored to us as the day unfolded. The guide also gave us great recommendations of what more to do on our own in the following days we had in Tokyo, based on what we liked. It is one of the best city private tours we've ever taken.
