- MelissS1010 contributionsWonderful culinary tour in northern IsraelMy family - ages 10-86 - spent a wonderful day with Paul in the Galilee, learning about the amazing diversity of foods and cultures in the area. We visited a local market, flour mill, coffee roasters, olive grove, and goat cheese farm, and sampled excellent food at each location. For us, the highlight was lunch with a Druze family who generously welcomed us into their beautiful home and cooked one of the best meals we've ever eaten! I'd highly recommend this tour.Written 29 June 2023
- simonf3940 contributionsFamily workshopGreat way to spend a morning. Not just a cooking workshop, but a cultural guide to Druze society too. Culmination is we got to eat the produce, which was a tasty culinary feast. We are vegetarian, which was no problem, though I understand many of the dishes are for carnivores. I could not fault this experience and will merrily do it again if friends come to visit. Full marks for everyone who made it happen. Really original.Written 10 April 2023
- mjweinstein0 contributionsA DO NOT MISS CULINARY EXPERIENCEOur GalilEat experience was the best part of our Israel tour! Our guide Paul started with a trip to a working local market. The colors and aromas of the local fruits and vegetables were amazing. Paul's relationship with the local vendors is wonderful to see. He obviously has close friendships with the the people of his community. Following our market trip, Paul took us to an authentic family-owned and working flour mill and wood fired pita bakery that was fabulous. One of our favorite parts was seeing 3,000 year old olive trees and a delicious lunch by a Druze woman who cooked us a delightful meal and shared her story with us. We HIGHLY recommend any of Paul's tours. He is so knowledgeable of the local areas, and history, and also makes touring fun and personal. It was especially moving to have an in depth look at an area in Israel where Jews and Arabs live side by side peacefully. Don't miss this tour. Great for all ages.Written 26 February 2023

- E1360HQlorig0 contributionsLori GThe Druze Cooking with Galileat was phenomenal! It was very special meeting the Druze family and cooking and eating with them. They were extremely hospitable and our guide Paul was exceptional! An outstanding experience!Written 22 February 2023
- rlgibney0 contributionsCooking and Much More with a Druze FamilyWendy, Lorie and I spent two weeks touring Israel in Oct 2022. A very special highlight of our trip was a visit (arranged by Galileat) to a Druze family for a hands-on cooking class. Our hosts had us all very busy in their kitchen preparing a multi-course meal from fresh, local ingredients. Then, the payoff: eating what we'd help prepare with our hosts. It was delicious. But our visit to their home was much more than the cuisine. Before our fun in the kitchen, we spent an hour in conversation with our hosts in their living room, sippiing tea. They shared stories of their family and explained much about the Druze faith and community customs. It was a wonderful experience---much enhanced by the active participation of Paul Nirens (Galileat)!Written 16 January 2023
- E780XBandrewf0 contributionsIntimate Cultural ExperienceThis was an incredible experience. It was an honor to be welcomed into Pnina's home and learn about her religion and heritage. The kids enjoyed cooking with her and tasting foods they had never heard of before. Paul was an amazing ambassador and translator. If you are looking for an intimate cultural experience this is what you want to sign up for. Make sure to try Pnina's olives that she grows!Written 13 January 2023
- staceybY6957BK0 contributionsFun and educationalWe were fortunate enough to get to participate in one of Paul's culinary experiences. We were very warmly welcomed into Zarafat's home where we learned about the Druze faith and thenwere able to participate in the preparation of a Druze dinner. Best of all we got to share the meal with our host Zarafat and her daughter in law Abil. The foot was wonderful and I look forward to trying the recipes at home.Written 10 November 2022
- andreamR8914JY0 contributionsAn evening to rememberMy family recently participated in the Druze Culinary Experience with Paul and Pnina. From start to finish, it was an incredible experience that enhanced our knowledge of the Druze religion and the food was delicious. Paul and Pnina were extremely knowledgeable and very engaging with our three children, ages 13, 11 and 6. The kids were active participants in the kitchen and as a result were willing to try the dishes they made (which is huge as they are picky eaters). It was definitely a highlight of our 2-week trip to Israel.Written 23 August 2022
- sfgopher0 contributionsFantastic Druze cooking classWe had an incredible experience cooking with a Druze family in their home. Paul is an outstanding guide - fabulously engaging, extremely knowledgable and overall an outstanding person to spend time with. This was a highlight of the week and we are so grateful for the experience he facilitated for us.Written 31 July 2022
- Mangelinam0 contributionsCooking Class with Druze FamilyPaul hosted an in home cooking workshop in a Druze home with a Druze family and the experience was superb. He was an excellent translator but more importantly was his close relationship with this family - which made the entire experience more like going to a friend's house, a group cooking fest, and final feast. We learned so much about the Druze culture (fascinating) as well as their culinary preferences - it was truly a highlight of our trip. Thank you Paul!Written 16 July 2022
- Knudnic0 contributionsJust do itWe had a wonderful day with Paul. You will learn a lot and eat a lot, so come hungry. Paul was very knowledgeable and interesting. The food was delicious, but the highlight was definitely lunch with a local family. They were so warm and welcoming we did not want to leave. Book this tour - you won't regret it.Written 7 July 2022
- SunnySanDiego53360 contributionsFantastic day!We had a fantastic time with Paul! He is passionate about the area, the cultures and the culinary gifts. This was a great way to see, learn and experience more than we could in our own. The food was great, and we may not need to eat for a few days. The goat cheese was stunning, lunch in Roudina’s home a delight, and so nice to get to meet her lovely family. The food was delicious- can’t wait to try some at home. Add olive trees and oil, a granary and pita bakery, great wine tasting and market visit, plus great conversation and you have an amazing day!Written 1 February 2020

This is experience -- where to begin. The highlight of our trip. For the whole family, my son too. We learned about the culture in the most poignant, personal way. One of those moments I'll never ever forget. Our host is a person I will treasure forever.

We are a Jewish family of four and did a cooking workshop in Pnina's home, which was a memorable and fun evening. Pnina was warm and delightful, and we all had fun learning her cooking, tasting her home-grown specialties, and hearing about her unique culture. She was willing to answer any question, and was warm and welcoming. We cooked several courses, and were delighted to receive the recipes afterward, though they will never taste the same without Pnina! The company provided a translator, which was super helpful. We highly recommend this experience.

Such a wonderful experience! Our host was warm and welcoming. Paul was so nice and made the booking quick and easy. We walked away with delicious food, great recipes, and a better understanding of Druze culture!
Also, the cooking experience was almost done mainly outside and our host was very mindful of distancing. It was very covid-friendly.

A spectacular experience. My wife and I spent an evening with a Druze couple, learning about both culture and cuisine in their house. The only thing more amazing than the delicious food was the experience of connecting with them, with Paul as our guide. It was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to the Middle East.

We had a wonderful time cooking with a Druze family in their home. They were so friendly and gracious and the meal was to die for. Very thankful that Gila sent the recipes so we can try to recreate the tastes here in the US. It was also wonderful to learn more about Druze culture and society. Thank you

We went with a group of almost 40 to visit a Druize home. The family was wonderful, explaining their history and culture. Then we separated into two groups. One made stuffed grape leaves, and the other made pita topped with either z'attar or veggies. I was permitted to cook the pita - and it was an excellent way to go!
And then, the feast. I 110% recommend this!

I had no idea what to expect when I saw this on our itinerary, but it ended up being one of the more moving moments of our trip. Our host was so welcoming, she answered so many questions and was forthcoming about her fascinating culture. The food was incredible! Our group ranges from age 8 to 75 and everyone had such a great time. A highlight of our trip!

Paul arranged a bespoke tour and cooking workshop for a friend and me last week. What a lovely experience. Paul is relaxed, knowledgeable and a lot of fun. I was more interested in an authentic experience. We were taken to the best open air market, where purchases of fresh greens and local produce remained fresh as if just picked, for a week! I delighted in learning the local stories and meeting the characters. Paul knows everyone. The cheese experience was a little disappointing, but undaunted, we continued to a Druze home which was the highlight. To spend time with a real family, hear their stories and learn more about their lives and culture, and sit down to a super feast we cooked together was a wonderful experience. THANK YOU PAUL SHALL DEFINITELY RECOMMEND YOU AND LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER TRIP SOON.

We were two families travelling together with 4 teenagers aged 12-15 and this cooking workshop activity was really enjoyed by everyone. It provided a very personal experience to learn about the Druze food and culture and the dinner we helped to create was delicious. Pnina and her family were wonderful hosts and made us feel so welcome in their home. Paul also accompanied us for this workshop, including acting as translator and we really appreciated his professionalism and enthusiasm. Very highly recommended!

Our reaction to the cooking workshop with a Druze couple echoes that of other reviewers. We were graciously and warmly welcomed and began with a discussion of Druze culture and religion.
Next we donned aprons and set about preparing a multi-course dinner. We were two couples and needed to avoid various ingredients (including sesame and garlic) due to food intolerances. Our hosts did a fabulous job accommodating our requirements—better and more cheerfully than most restaurants.
We’re looking forward to receiving the recipes so that we can prepare these dishes for friends back in the U.S.
Both the food and the cultural exchange were highlights of our Israel vacation.
The views from our hosts’ home were to die for.

What is the price per person in US$ for the cooking class and dinner please??? When I click on the check availability it comes up as $250pp This seems wrong or very excessive.

Our class was priced as included in the tour so I don't know the part for the experience. Also I think depencds on size of the group.
