Probably one of the best holiday experiences my husband and I have ever had! The fishing was amazing- our guide Dwayne was an absolute encyclopaedia of fishing- he took us to remote areas where Queenfish, Mackeral, Coral Trout, Trevally, and more were practically jumping in the boat! It was such a wonderful thing to do together and I had never fished before (husband has many times). Guide Dwayne was a patient and supportive ‘teacher’ and even though he’s done it all a zillion times he genuinely gets as excited as you on every catch. He’s respectful of the ocean, only keeping what we can eat. Then to return to the Lodge where your catch is prepared by Chef Ben in a variety of ways - a feast - is just the cherry on top. A VIP experience all round - Gihan and his team, (shout out to Victor) will ensure your time on Groote is super special. From the cultural tour, to the accommodation, sunsets, cocktails, food… and of course the fishing, Gihan’s team are so friendly and attentive- it’s so incredibly rare to receive service as good as what is delivered here at the Lodge. Groote Eylandt Lodge is absolutely worth the trip. Six stars out of five!

We went on an island driving tour with Jon. It was an extensive driving tour including aboriginal cave art, mining activities and a delightful lunch. Jon from Groote Eylandt Lodge took us on an amazing tour of the island - it has made the visit all that more memorable and a reason to come back. Jonno met our plane and we easily struck up a conversation about the wild life and vegetation as well as the geological history and human history of this bucket list destination we have sought for years. The knowledge Jonno shares was brilliantly presented in a most clear effective professional manner. Jonno helped access the fascinating cave art, spent all the time we wanted with special scenery then swept us away with a waterfront spot to enjoy a hearty sandwich, cake, fruit and drink lunch. Jonno is a gentleman with a breadth of experience and natural sharing style. We recommend the day tour and have every reason to believe the fishing tour comes with the same caring Jonno style. Had an absolutely wonderful morning exploring Groote Eylandt! The guide was very genuine, new so much about the island and it’s history and provided incredible insights into the place! The 4WDing was also a big highlight of the trip as well as the cave paintings and lunch at Umbakumba. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone if considering visiting Groote :)

Took my Son for a 3 day fishing tour for his 18th birthday at the lodge and Groote Island sports fishing. Jono made it a once in a lifetime experience, his skills and expertise in fishing and the area was second to none, he continued to put us onto some of the best fishing you could ever imagine. Nothing was too much trouble for Jono as he went out of his way to land us some cracking species like Red Emperor, Fingermarks, Coral Trout, Mangrove Jack, Tuna, Spanish Macurel, Spangled Emperor, Queen Fish, Tusk Fish! and that's just to name a few! On top of the amazing fishing the Lodge looked after us like kings, the restaurant fed us amazing food and cooked our fish at the end of each day that was truly mouth watering and had us returning to our 5 star cabin in a food coma! Now looking at making this trip a regular occurrence in an amazing part of the world! THANKYOU Gihan & Jono for a great time and we both want to wish you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

4th time back fishing around Groote Eylandt. Once again lots of fun. Some of the pelagics were hard to find but we still caught +25 species of fish over 4 days. Some of highlight fish was a 70cm brassy trevally, 94cm Spanish mackerel and 64cm golden snapper. We also caught red emperor, coral trout, large mouth nannygai (Newman emperor), blue bone and tricky snapper. Jonno the guide was great once again. He knows the spots to catch fish and goes out of this way to get you fish. Trolled, cast, bait, hard bodies and soft plastics, so heaps of variety. And the Lodge is a great spot. Bar over looking water. Great food. And fantastic bar service.

When searching for a fishing trip, something special to do for a 40th birthday, we stumbled across Groote Eyelandt Lodge, and Groote Eyelandt Sports Fishing. We are so glad that we found this place. Our stay was for a 4 day fishing, 5 night accommodation package - with everything included except alcohol. The service we received, from initial queries / booking, delaying trip (due to Covid) then arrival was always so friendly and helpful. All flights and transfers were organised for us - we did not have to do a thing! Our fishing experience was superb! This was all due to our guide, Jon, who was so helpful and accommodating. He put us onto some wonderful fish (red emperor, Queenfish, mackerel, cobia, trout, cod and barracuda - along with a few shark) and shared his knowledge with us. For anyone wanting an awesome fishing getaway, I would thoroughly recommend coming to see Jon. He mentioned to us that he gets return guests, and it is so easy to see why. Each night, the chefs would prepare your dinner with that days catch, in many different ways. All of the meals we had were so delicious, and we got to try something new each night (dishes like ceviche, sashimi, fish tacos, fish spring rolls, grilled/battered fish). There was definitely no shortage of food available, with the chefs constantly checking the food was to your liking and you were satisfied. The bar staff were always so welcoming, quick to learn your order, and very attentive. This holiday was definitely a special experience, one in which we will never forget. Big shout out to all of the wonderful staff working at the lodge, including Gihan & Jon for making this so memorable.

We are not fishermen/women, You don’t need be! Jonno will guide, support & assist you to catch fish! Big fish! It is an experience of a lifetime a day we will talk about for years to come & the scenery is out of this world, beauty in every direction. The chefs at Groote Island Lodge cooked us an amazing feast with our catch. We loved it and we are fishermen now! Thank you Jonno 🎣👌

Six fishing friends recently experienced 5 days of sensational fishing at Groote Eylandt Lodge. Jonno, our guide took us to many locations around the island where we encountered species including mackerel, coral trout, trevally, golden snapper, red emperor, mangrove jack. The scenery is spectacular particularly to the north of Groote. Of an evening the day's catch was transformed by the Lodge's chefs into sumptuous sashimi and seafood dishes. The icy cold beers on tap were always welcomed, relaxing on the balcony and recalling the catches of the day. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean ensuring a good nights rest. Gihan and his attentive staff ensured our fishing adventure was perfect. We're now planning our fourth trip to Groote Eylandt Lodge in 2023!

Our third fishing trip with the team from Groote Eylandt Lodge. Another fabulous trip. Fish caught included spanish mackerel, coral trout, mangrove jacks, brassy trevally, golden trevally, queenfish, large mouth nanygai, estuary cod, trick snapper, golden snapper, blue bone and red emperor. Fish caught each day were cooked for us. And some of the dishes were as good a anything I have ever tasted. Top class cuisine!!! Jonno the main fishing guide knows the spots and goes out of his way to find us fish. We fished with fresh baits, soft plastics and hard body lures. Using both bait casters and spin reels. Casting, trolling and reef fishing. The accommodation back at the lodge is excellent. And the service from bar and kitchen staff is 1st rate. Friendly and accommodating.

We have heard that the fishing is great but as we do not fish we chose a tour around the island. Jon was a great guide and driver full of knowledge about the mining and the island. We can highly recommend this activity if you are not interested in fishing.

We did a full day private fishing trip with Jono on a recent stay at the Lodge…. The weather was perfect, the fishing was spot on, the hospitality was awesome and Jono didn’t nothing short of treating us like rockstars…. Thanks Jono we will see you next year !!!!

Fantastic service from the moment we arrived. The accommodation was above expectation and the food was excellent ranging from buffet to Tapas. The chef was happy to cook our catch each day in the style we enjoyed. Our fishing guide was extremely knowledgeable and by the end of the week our arms were sore from some epic battles with big fish. We have booked again.
