- erikabB4908PM0 contributionsSo peaceful! We had a lovely day hiking with Etsuko on Mount Kurama. It was such a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Kyoto - in fact, this was one of the most beautiful and peaceful days we had on our entire trip to Japan! I would highly recommend spending an extra day in Kyoto just to visit the mountain and Kifune. Thank you so much, Etsuko!Written 12 October 2024

We were so glad to have Yuki as our tour guide so we could just relax and explore without worrying about getting lost or missing something interesting. Definitely a top highlight from our week in Kyoto! 20k step day and so worth it. It was beautiful to see more of the country side and get away from the crowds.Written 11 October 2024
- 587tarab0 contributionsFantastic day In Hiroshima!!We had a fabulous day in Hiroshima with our guide, Nagako. First we went to Miyajima and enjoyed the wonderful sights there - including the huge red Torii gate and shrine. Nagako knew all the best spots for photos, and shared her wonderful knowledge on the sights around the island, always able to answer our questions. After lunch, we went to the Hiroshima peace park and museum, a really moving and informative experience. The whole day went really smoothly and absolutely flew by. Would highly recommend this tour for anyone visiting Hiroshima!!Written 9 October 2024
- anniceo0 contributionsAn amazing day in Kamakura thanks to SuzukiWe spent 4 delightful hours with Mr. Yasuho Suzuki. He was our guide for Kamakura’s temples and shrines. Not only experienced, and extremely knowledgeable he was easy to understand and was able to answer any/all questions. After spending two weeks in Japan with a guided excursion almost every day, we can confidently recommend Suzuki as one of the best guides we have thus had. Please request him if you want an enjoyable and informative tour. He went out of his way to help us. We wish we could clone him for Kyoto.Written 7 October 2024

We had a perfect tour with our guide Toshi-san. With his small tablet and presentation in hand, he took us 400 years back in time when Shogun Samurai walked the path from Edo (Tokyo) to Kyoto.
Walking through Magome was beautiful to see the little post town and explore the walkway from here. We learned so much of Buddhism and Shinto, Toshi-san made sure to teach us the traditions, mannerisms, but also fun facts about the architecture and history of the post towns. The hike itself was beautiful: you got to walk through the forest and be enthralled by the mountains in the background.
We were just in time to taste sweets made from chestnuts, which is harvested in autumn!
Toshi-san led us through a magical day, taught us all about the history, the way of the Samurai and his passion for nature. And in perfect English.
What an honor to be part of this journey. If you want to experience the path of the Samurai, don't hesitate and ask for Toshi! 🌳

I managed this walk between Magome and Tsumago with a sore knee (soon to be replaced) and it was worth it. It took my husband and I about four hours to compete, including a few rest stops. At one point my husband and I agreed we felt like we were in Lord of the Rings country! There is lots of variety on the walk - tiny villages you wander through, tall trees and waterfalls. The start in Magome is a steep climb, with shops on either side as you rise up out of the town. The walk is a unique thing to do, and well within the reach of an average walker. But don't underestimate it - not for the unfit. I also recommend good walking shoes, and don't forget to take water and your 'bear bell'. We loved the travellers tea house en route where we were made very welcome and given free green tea. We posed with photos of Britain's Joanna Lumley, who had done the trek for a BBC film on Japan. Note that if you don't want to do the whole walk, there is a bus stop close to the main falls where you can begin or drop out.

This one-day excursion is certainly to be included in a visit to Japan program
We visit the two villages of Tsumago and Magine still characterized by historic wooden houses
In the midst of moving between the two locations, a trekking route through the woods and natural waterfalls is recommended

Beautiful day out with Kazuo walking an ancient pathway and learning more about the history of Japan. We enjoyed the quaint town, shops, delicious lunch (Tuesday trip meant usual spot was closed but we visited a popular Tsumago spot and had yummy galettes!), spectacular views and most of all our friendly, helpful and active guide who enjoyed himself as well! It felt like a relaxing day exploring with a friend and we would very much recommend it! The walk itself is not too difficult but it is long and has some steep parts and uneven surfaces. We were contacted on WhatsApp a couple days before to confirm details.

This is a nice walk between two of the old postal towns along the old Nakasendo way connecting Tokyo and Kyoto.
Our guide Miki picked us up at the Nakatsugawa station and organized everything around our trip perfectly. Along the way, she explained us about history and geography. We learnt a lot from her sound knowledge.
Walking is not too difficult, no problem for us and our children (ages 12 and up). There are possibilities to buy food at the starting anf ending point. Restrooms are available along the way.
All in all a lovely experience for all of us.

We had a slight rain that day and we’re worried there would be issues on the hike. That could not have been further from the truth. Toshi was as concerned with our safety as he was making sure we were having a wonderful time. We were able to take many wonderful photos as well as learn a lot about the trail. We could not have asked for a better guide to share such a wonderful experience with us.

We had a wonderful day with our guide Kazuyo. He is knowledgeable, organized and always willing to help. He prepared a full itinerary for the whole day (for exemple a way to transport our luggage). The walk is beautiful, it has wonderful natural scenery, authentic villages and tea houses. I would highly recommend this.

We had an amazing tour with Harumoto-san! He was very kind and gave us a lot of interesting information about the history and japan. I can really recommend the tour, as it is really unique and the perfect little hike, without being too exhausting. We came in July and even with the heat very manageable. This place is definitely one of the top places we saw in japan! A big thank you to Harumoto-san again for being such a great guide. We really enjoyed it!
