14 best spots to catch the sunset in Rome

It doesn’t matter when you go to Rome—no matter the season, the city comes alive with golden light every evening. Rome’s sunsets are distinctively orange, serving as a spectacular backdrop to ancient ruins and majestic buildings.
However, depending on the season, sunset timings may differ. While Rome doesn’t have frigid winters, the daylight hours are still shorter between November and February, which means the sun can begin setting as early as 4:30 p.m. On the other hand, summer will see a late sunset, closer to 9 p.m. To ensure you get the best sunset experience, it’s best to check your weather app and aim to show up around one to two hours in advance, especially for popular spots.
Whether you’re looking for a rewarding trek or a romantic night out, we’ve rounded up some of the best spots in Rome to watch the sun go down.
