The only vacation rentals in NZ appear to be on http://www.holidayhouses.co.nz The site has a disclaimer that they're responsible for nothing. Is there a way to check and see if the person is legitimate? ... more

Check them out on T/A. The reviews on there will give you an indication of a few of the vacation rentals available. If several guests have stayed there and postedreviews then the property exists. What areas are you c onsidering? ... more

There are loads of vacation rentals--take a look at Bookabach, for example, or airbnb.com. TA has gotten into the business fairly recently. You are relying on reviews to avoid fraud, as you are elsewhere in the world. It's safest to use agencies, which can act as intermediaries ... more

... a mistake with Ashleigh - it is actually on a side street in Riccarton, very close to the lovely Mona Vale Gardens, so will be quieter than the other two. Motels in NZ are actually very good value for money, because they are more like an apartment than a hotel room ... more
