Cabin holiday in Telluride, Colorado

Telluride, Colorado, has grown in prominence as a famed ski resort but the region’s rugged beauty means that it attracts tourist throughout the year. To really get the authentic mountain holiday experience, eschew the hotels and instead hire a hillside cabin.

Phenomenal skiing:

Originally a mining town, Telluride’s first ski slope was only installed in 1972 but the town has blossomed into one of the major North American ski resorts. Telluride caters for all skill levels and there’s a ski school which offers skiing and snowboarding lessons. Additionally, the presence of a warm inviting nursery means there’s even somewhere for your kids to play whilst you indulge in your favourite pastime.

Adventure activities away from the piste:

There’s no mistaking the fact that you’re in the big outdoors when you enter San Miguel County and approach Telluride. It’s a place of mountains, forests, and fast-flowing rivers and this makes it a paradise for holidaymakers who prefer a physically challenging holiday to one spent reading the latest best seller on a beach.

Whilst skiing dominates during the winter months, the arrival of late spring does more than just enable new buds to spring forth; it also opens up a world of outdoor activity opportunities. These include mountain biking, hiking, white-water rafting, and first rate fishing. Hiking along the Bear Creek Canyon Trail is particularly recommended.

Gondola lift ride and the Bridal Veil Falls:

Whether you’re a skier or not, make sure that you ride on the gondola ski lift which connects Telluride with the nearby town of Mountain Village. It’s free, always delights kids, and offers a great vantage point to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Standing at 365 feet, the Bridal Veil Falls is a hugely impressive waterfall that looks out at Telluride from the end of its box canyon. There are hiking trails that lead up to the top of the falls if you want to get a stunning view of the town and get up close and personal to the spray!

Romantic getaway:

There’s something about wild snow-capped mountainous scenery that takes the breath away and melts the heart. So what better place could there be for a romantic holiday than a log cabin in Telluride, where you can cosy up with the love of your life in front of a roaring fire.

And after a day spent hiking, skiing, or however else you may wish, take a moonlit ride on the gondola to Allred’s Restaurant. Situated at 10,551 feet above sea level, it’s a bit different from most restaurants that you’re ever likely to dine in and offers a fine selection of meals and wine. And if you’re thinking about popping the question, it’s a good choice since you won’t have to get down in the snow!
