Smoking in Samui and Thailand

We are going first time to thailand and Ko Samui and i'm a heavy smoker (only cigarettes). Is the smoking forbidden or permit in this region, for example in public places, restaurants, bars, on the beach, or in the hotel facilities?

When I was there last June you could basically smoke just about anywhere unless there was a sign saying "No Smoking" ... more

stupid to smoke around people who don't smoke and smoking is not allowed in restaraunts and bars. some bars have smoking areas and some turn their head on the law. ... more

... nice and children are welcome. Smoking is also allowed on the balcony areas and could get quite smoky, i do smoke.
Soft drinks in the day are only coffee/tea and water, anything else like pepsi, juice does have to be paid for, free net is good but is monitored ... more

To be honest haven't heard the best things about Dubai airport and these type of connections. Does anyone have any advice? Maybe pay for lounge access at Dubai?

... you that there is no smoking areas AT ALL in the new terminal and that you will have to go to the old terminal!!..... as when i did eventually stumble across the bar i found you can actually smoke in there no problem, they have both non-smoking and smoking ... more
