We are planning a short stay in Kaikoura on a trip to NZ this Feb, and have booked a dolphin swim early in the morning. Can't decide between Anchor Inn or the Waves on the Esplanade apartments - does anyone have any view on which would be better? Thanks! ... more

... look to me like traditional apartment building. Anchor Inn has a lovely setting, it further out on the esplanade - would be a little quieter. If you have children, or like the beach/shore - the Anchor is right across from a lovely little beach area where children can safely play. Have ... more

Check them out on T/A. The reviews on there will give you an indication of a few of the vacation rentals available. If several guests have stayed there and postedreviews then the property exists. What areas are you c onsidering? ... more

There are loads of vacation rentals--take a look at Bookabach, for example, or airbnb.com. TA has gotten into the business fairly recently. You are relying on reviews to avoid fraud, as you are elsewhere in the world. It's safest to use agencies, which can act as intermediaries ... more
