Could anyone recommend a gite, ideally walking distance to a village in the Champagne region for 1 week. We will be arriving by train from Paris and wish to hire a car, what is the best town to arrive in to pick one up?. Many thanks ... more

Have a look at the Gites de France website - www.gites-de-france.com/gites/fr/gites_ruraux. You can search by map or department/town etc and there are plenty to choose from. Having a car will make the world of difference, it's a huge region!

Since you are also looking for accommodation, note that some of them offer bed and breakfast or gites. I suspect though that if you stay with them they would expect you to buy your champagne from them.
